Pounce de León I actually had to bring 4, and its still not quite enough to finish most of a mission with. So I put a medium laser on it too. Just so its not compltely useless after it runs out of ammo. You only pack 3 crates with your thunderbird? I believe it is 5 actually. 3 it was on Trebbie.

For a LRM boat atm, I'm using a Catapult CPLT-C1 with a pair of LRM 20s+++ (+2 Stability damage, & +50% Crit, they're like a 20 shot concussive shot), 5 tons of ammo, a TTS with +2 missile accuracy, comms system for +3 morale gain, & a pair of jumpjets, for the low armor price of 560.
It's great at knocking Heavy, & Assault mechs to the ground, & causing pilot injuries.
I may drop more armor for more jumpjets, & targeting equipment.

I find myself avoiding high level “destroy elite enemy lance” missions. The last few I tried out I ended up with eight heavy mechs converging on me at once.

For a LRM boat atm, I'm using a Catapult CPLT-C1 with a pair of LRM 20s+++ (+2 Stability damage, & +50% Crit, they're like a 20 shot concussive shot), 5 tons of ammo If I'm not wrong that means 15 full volleys of LRM (5 times 120, divided by 40). Do you find that sufficient even on longer missions? I find 10-15 turns worth of ammo to be good enough for about 90% of the fights I'm in. Most of the time I'll shoot at 2 different mechs with the C1 if they're not bulwark'd up, or flat on the ground as a single LRM 20+++ will most of the time put a mech on full stability bar for a knock down from my other mechs, My C1 is more likely to kill a mech through a pilot kill than a CT kill.

THis mission proved to be way more expensive than the reward offered.
F*ck this noise. THis should be a three skull mission AT LEAST.
I may end up rolling back a bunch of hours and just do side missions until I get a full lance of heavies.

The rest focus-fired on the lighter mechs as they came in range. When the Griffin approached, the Hunchback and Centurian closed to melee while the Dragon took called shots at it. Trebuchet climbed hill and provided fire support once vehicles were down. Problem was, the enemy focus-fired on individual mechs . And they had a LOT of firepower. First they burned down the Hunchback. Then they blew apart the Dragon. At that point it was down to the enemy Dragon and my Centurion and Trebuchet. Used remaining Inspiration to try and take it out with a headshot. No such luck. Trebuchet took a bad ammo explosion in the closing rounds. Centurion was pretty messed up and was actually knocked down in the final round. But managed to live long enough to stand up and finish the Dragon.

They were pretty clever about avoiding them. I kept waiting for the Dragon to step into range, but neatly maneuvered between two of them. Even when it was backing up.

Interestingly I just fnished another two skull mission where they weren't nearly as clever. It was a fight between me and a lance (two light and two medium) and four vehicles, one of them LRM carrier. Once I figured out the mineral fields were great cover I could play havoc with them. They just dithered while I took them out with long range attacks. Payout was less than a third of the priority mission but no mechs got blown up(I even scored another Shadow Hawk from salvage) and only one injured pilot.

Non-spoiler heads up, the final mission (or I think it is) gives you a warning that there will be consecutive drops before you launch it. So you’ll have to fight again without having a chance to repair your mechs.
So stock up on Heavy’s and Assault mechs if you can find them.

Well, the final story mission was easier than I thought.
Also, the Highlander with that Gauss cannon is an incredible mech. I’ve been using it to one shot most opponents with called shots.

I got a Banshee with 1,700ish armor, 3 small lasers, & a bunch of arm melee mods making it do 240 damage a punch, it'll pretty much one punch a medium mech, & core out some heavies if it hits the CT. Pretty sure I could bump that up to 310 damage if I find some more +60 damage melee arm mods. I used a similar build except I only used one +60 melee mod so I had room to load jump jets and keep the armour near max. With a +3 defense gyro, a scout pilot, and liberal use of vigilance it was a monster. Sprint in with vigilance active, reserve until low on evasion pips, then repeat until in melee range. It was pretty funny to see the enemy react to a sprinting 95 ton mech with the nack for dodging entire LRM20 salvos. I referred to it as my sheepdog. Not to say it wouldn't get dinged up -- I needed to have a rotation of pilots for it and lost one of my +60 melee mods -- but it soaked an insane amount of damage and could easily tear limbs off assault mechs. The jump jets were for getting it out of trouble without exposing a vulnerable side.

Done the campaign. Started a new one right off the bat. Would have skipped prologue, but well... With my solid understanding of the rules I've set out to level my characters a bit different. Main focus shall be bullwark and tactics perks. Breaching shot and picking multiple targets is nice but moving first is better. 2ns mission in: Dekker in Spider. Dekker headshotted and dead. Wow - he had lots of evasion, but I guess it wasn't to be. He made it through my 1st playthrough.

I noticed some systems have a "Comstar Presence" and the little faction icons indicating who is active (missions?) includes Comstar. Anyone found work or "special equipment"?

I'm in taurian space atm, and yea no mission givers that I've found. So far, its all capellans giving me missions in their space.
Also haven't found any missions from comstar yet either.
