For some reason the Taurian Concordate is open for travel. Was like that in the 1st playthrough, too. I ventured in but found no Taurian mission givers. I noticed some systems have a "Comstar Presence" and the little faction icons indicating who is active (missions?) includes Comstar. Anyone found work or "special equipment"? I'm in taurian space atm, and yea no mission givers that I've found. So far, its all capellans giving me missions in their space.
Also haven't found any missions from comstar yet either.
There is one Taurian system near the Aurigan Reach that is pretty buff in difficulty stars and has this comstar - I wanted to check it out for some juicy salvage.

[/quote][/div] No it's Brinton - go to the right from the initial Arano Resto area. It's one of the next closest Taurian systems. So not smack in the middle of map - a tad right.

Okay, I came back to Battletech. I've been grinding side missions, and have gained more experience with my pilots and have three heavy mechs. I'm regularly taking on three and 3.5 skull missions and coming out with only minor damage and injuries.
I go back to do the two skull Liberation: Smithton mission.
And I'm STILL getting my *ss handed to me!
And the new "granular" difficulty adjustments won't let me affect main story missions!

You can precheck the range and edge a little closer. I start off with the turrets to the right and later mind the ones up ahead. Los can be iffy, a mech standing back might be seen from the lower level because they are tall. You might need to pull back a bit to stay unseen.

FINALLY managed to liberate Smithton.
Got really lucky and managed to trash some enemy mechs with a couple of ammo crates. Including damaging the Dragon.
Two injured pilots and three of my own mechs were dinged up, but I made it!

Has anyone else notice that if your mech overheats, the game just sorta hangs there forever and you have t oforce-quit?

Okay so I'm about at end game. The current story mission is warning me that it's a "point of no return"
Problem is I STILL only have one assault mech!
I've got salvage for a bunch more, but they're just not appearing for me!
I'm trying to find Battle or Assassination missions of the 3.5-4 skull range. Any higher and I risk getting my butt kicked with the tonnage I'm running with. But it's a pita (and a waste of money) to keep flying from system to system trying to find the right missions to farm.
It's frustrating to have to sacrifice a goat to the RNG gods for the drops you want.

And so of course right after I complain, I end up getting missions with
A Banshee A Stalker and a King Crab Two King Crabs and a Victor And one amusing if brief battle that consisted entirely of a Locust and a Battlemaster, both of which were one-shotted (the Battlemaster with a called shot to the head)

Just got this game this past weekend. I knew nothing about Battletech going into this. But I've liked HBS Shadowrun games so far so I decided to give it a chance. It's okay so far, nothing to really get all giddy about yet. Although trying to balance your reputations is a struggle in itself which is an interesting dynamic. I had foolishly thought this game would be more RPG than it is, given their Shadowrun game so I feel slight disappointment about that. But that is not the games fault, it is mine for not researching that properly. So I cannot hold that against it. Granted I'm still "early" in the Campaign, but it definitely feels very rinse and repeat atm, very grindy. The costs of everything is ridiculous compared to what you can make (outside of story missions).
