As a huge fan of the Metro series I felt obligated to create a thread about the next installment Metro : Exodus - which is going to be released this fall. What do we know so far? * We leave the Moscow metro tunnels * We move through the south-east parts of Russia * We are traveling by train, an old modified soviet steam locomotive * Semi-open world gameplay. Huge areas we visit along our travels but cannot return to. * We will encounter different groups of survivors / cultists * There is going to be a crafting system * Bullet currency is replaced by crafting materials * Maps vary greatly, - at one point we will travel though a mad-max like desert with burning oil platforms- * Seasons, its no longer nuclear winter forever everywhere * Maps will have day / night cycles * Anna is going to return (duh) * Most of the time we will be on the surface, not every region is heavily polluted with radioactive fallout. * There is going to be a reputation system, our actions will have consequences, especially how factions will react and treat us * We will be able to operate vehicles * Gas mask returns Did I miss anything? Trailer:

Metro is a amazing series. Post apocaliptic scifi world with mutant creatures and aliens. Yeah, I think they pulled it off far better than Fallout and Exodus looks really good already. I am also happy that we are going to the surface and travel to new and interesting places, as good as the metro was, another installment with tunnel crawling in Moscow would not have worked out well IMO.

I'm pretty sure the game will still remain mostly linear (for the good or bad). They just made the game slightly less tunnely this time.

FPS is a genre I love to hate for some reason. I like the idea but really haven't found a game the suites me. Closest I got was the original Halo until the 343 Guilty Spark level ::shudders:: lost interest after that... Another one I like was Battlefield Bad Company, never did finish that...
Never mind me I'm rambling...

Metro Last Light didn't grip me as much as 2033 did, but I'm still anxiously awaiting this one for sure. I'm curious to see what places they'll have us travel to. There's a lot of potential given that most games set you in one area. Being able to explore a large swath of Russia or even beyond would be fantastic.

Thats why this game is so interesting for me as well, its so varied, the story and atmosphere is very immersive, and there is several ways you can play the game. You even have to change the layout of your equipment according to your tactics. I heavily relied on stealth, but not just to sneak and ghost through levels but also to assassinate my adversaries without alerting everyone through gunfire. I think 50% of my kills were with the good old knife. Though one thing that they could not get right was Anna, with her sudden change in character and her forced relationship with the protagonist I found her rather annoying , off-putting and so cliché. Plus, she was the only female warrior in two games, which is kind of weird as well.

Indeed, the game always felt super immersive to me. The sounds, the atmosphere, the loneliness. The metro-while-shooting parts, the breathing sounds with the masks, the complete silence at times. I used to get kinda scared at some sections, and whenever they started with the ghosts I shiver and smile at the same time, because I find it pretty cool.
I hope they don't tie the endings again to whether or not you kill or knock people out a la Dishonored. I just sometimes want to go guns blazing, but then I remember "this surely is gonna fuck my ending" and proceed to non-lethal again. Put more fight-only sections, so we can vary our playstyle a little bit. I love the little references to STALKER too, man a STALKER game with these graphics and atmosphere would be the shit.

If I have interpreted the developers comments correctly the ''choices'' only affect how people react and some side missions and not really how the story unfolds. They made one example about a cult of people who banned all form of technology because they blamed it for the destruction of the world. They said if you enter their territory guns blazing and blinding them with a flashlight they will become more hostile and may attack you. It would also change certain side quests. So I think its just gonna have the right amount of impact.

Well, you surely don't have to, but I imagine it would help immersion with Exodus quite a lot if you understood the protagonists and general struggle of the survivors of the first two games. Plus, they are simply very very good games, there is no reason not to play them.- Go to steam and make sure you get the Redux versions of Metro 2033 and 2034.

Playing the previous games isn't a requirement, per se, but playing them will help quite a bit. The conflict featured in Last Light plays a major role in why the characters are 'going mobile' in Exodus, if the trailer is anything to go by. Besides, they're great games. You'll be in for one heck of a ride if you go all in.

The ammount of people you kill in either game has no impact on the ending. This is a misinformation that is pretty common among fans of the series. What impacts the ending is the ammount of moral points you managed to gather. If you get enough of them, you aways unlock the good ending, no matter what else you do.

It would be a bit akin to playing DAI inquisition without the previous games. You can play and understand the story but you will sure miss quite a few details. Besides as stated above they are good games. Also if you want it, go grab them at GOG. Metro 2033 Redux and Metro Last Light Redux are really cheap there and plus it is free of stupid DRM.

But what were those moral points? I only remember 3 from the 2 games. One was the little kid in 2033 that would show you the place in one of the stations if you give him one bullet, and the only reason I knew about it is because a friend of mine told me. The other in Last Light was either killing or not killing certain character. And I know that you loose moral points if you watch the "lap dances" in a cabaret in one of the stations, I mean yeah... I guess, but how's that suppose to affect the ending of a game? And that's about all I can remember. Were they super obvious? it's kinda like a hidden mechanic, that's what leads to confusion I think.

You generally earn them by listening to ambient conversations, finding hidden loot, doing good deeds (like giving a boy his teddy bear), and yes, clearing locations non lethaly. Personally, I used the wiki guide to find all moral points. And managed to get the good ending, despite using lethal force all the time and *ahem* enjoying the splendors of the cabaret.

But i have to say this that i have played DA I before i played the other two DA games and that did not gave me the feeling that i missed out on anything at least not after i played DA I. But i will take it in consideration to play the other two games as well and thank you all for this information. Uh btw. what does DRM means it's nice that you use shortcuts but uh some of us have no idea what it means and i'm one of them.

DRM: Digital Restrictions Management Supposedly a software designed to stop piracy of copyrighted content. But what it does is basically control how you use the thing you just bought in really shitty ways: like extra software required to run with the it, extra cpu/ram usage, connection with internet always required, limited number of uses etecetera... So if you have the option is better to avoid them. Hence why i always recommend buying games at GOG over crap Steam.

Steam DRM is fine, problem is when we talk Ubisoft that puts one layer upon the other. People complained with AC Origins because it had so many layers of bullshit the game ran like utter shit, it was discovered it was all due to the various DRM layers. Steam just uses a standard protection, I doubt it has any impact on performance.

Both Metro games are currently on sale on GOG. 4.99€ instead of 19.99€.
