Star Wars: As long as it's not fucking raptors with blasters. V is getting another reboot also. I'm looking forward to the Nightbreed t.v. show though.

I am looking forward to any kind of sci-fi series set in space, Battlestar Galactica left such a huge gaping hole which has yet to be filled. The Expanse is pretty good but there is lots of room for more.

The Expanse is pretty good but there is lots of room for more. I know I'm going to regret asking this but... are you talking about the original 1978 BSG or that horrid reboot of 2003? they were both good in their own way, the reboot should have been called something else, the original series left plenty of scope for there to be other worlds that survived the cylon extermination attempts, it shouldn't have bene that difficult to dream it up and have that centred around another group of people all named for the hero's of the first series but set 100 years later or something similar ..... besides if you hadn't seen the original then the reboot was pretty fantastic, i mean sure it had a few dodgy episodes but what series doesn't, and they ended it with some bad acid but thats typical of modern screen writers trying to figure out their shit so i'll even give them a pass on not being able to monologue the ending ... however i also agree there has been a dearth of decent sci-fi stuff thats based in space, dark matter was full of promise but failed to deliver, killjoys was sort of fun but didnt hold the drama value, and nothing since has come about (fun fact they made the reboot of BSG rather than branch out SG1 into full on space flight and battles because destiny did so poorly in the ratings and they had just effectively killed Atlantis prematurely) *i should mention i was a fan of all of the stargate series including the spin offs and was annoyed when they all got cancelled without achieving any sort of ending* most half way decent sci-fi storylines are ignored because Disney is the only company that could make a decent job of it and they want the rights to all associated works.... no writer will ever sign up to a deal like that when its their reputation on the line, smaller studio's will give them the deals but dont have the hardware to make a good job of it and nobody wants to see their epic masterpiece story become a laughing stock that struggles to get watched for free on amazon.....

I'll definitely be skipping anything by Ronald D. Moore.
I like Favreau's original works (a lot, in some cases) but not so much when he's directing other people's properties. I think he's one of the few that can actually be trusted with Star Wars, but I lost interest in Star Wars after the prequels. The reviews might get me to watch it.
It's been quite a while since I saw a TV Space Opera that I actually liked. I find most of them pretty dull and predictable, but I'm cynical when it comes to that sort of thing.

I think that 'Consider Phlebas' would need copious amounts of really slick CGI - eclipsing 'Avatar' - to be possible to shoot. I also dearly hope *they* can leave their bloody SJW or anti-Trump propaganda out of it.

Eh, let me know if Honor Harrington, The Lost Fleet, or the Vorkosigan Saga get adapted. Not a fan of honor harrington myself (happy to talk about that in PM's if you like). But I'd be all over a lost fleet series. I do feel like the space combat of the lost fleet, wouldn't be as awesome as the books though... I thought the lost fleet was getting a movie adaptation.

I heard something about a Lost Fleet comic book, but nothing about a movie or tv series. Honor Harrington quality has dropped off. But a series encompassing events up through Hades would be awesome.

Up to book (I think) 7, the Honor Harrington series was going strong. It suffers from the same thing most long-running series do--the author or producer doesn't know when to quit (or wants the paycheck more than a good reputation). I started the series in the lull between ME2 and ME3 and it scratched my itch beautifully. And then, pft, it fizzled into cheese. [sigh] Not all stories need love, babies, and exhaustive political explanations.

Is that really what the series becomes? I just stopped halfway through book one, because I didn't like how she handled her crews depression.

The Expanse is good as is Dark Matter
I never saw the original BSG so I really enjoyed the reboot. Up to a point anyway. Why were the Cylons so hellbent on wiping out humanity? What's the point?

[sigh] Not all stories need love, babies, and exhaustive political explanations. Book 8 "Echoes of Honor" was the last really good book. It's the one where she is on the prison planet and everyone thinks she's dead. After that, yeah, long-winded political exposition and a highly improbable (and, imo reaaaaaally creepy) love story. Her crew's morale turns around eventually. I actually think the second book 'The Honor of the Queen" is one of the best books in the series overall.

Problem with BSG reboot is that, despite the insistence that the Cylons had a plan, it became increasingly obvious that no, there was no plan. The writers were winging it. Still, the first two seasons were quite good.

The Mote in God's Eye would also make for a good series. But it would require a substantial amount of CGI to make the moties right.

Problem with BSG reboot is that, despite the insistence that the Cylons had a plan, it became increasingly obvious that no, there was no plan. The writers were winging it. Still, the first two seasons were quite good. Yeah it just got more and more ridiculous. When certain crew members were revealed to be Cylons I kinda just stopped watching it. One of the things I always wondered was why is there a president? The admiral should be running everything and everyone should be conscripted. Seemed like that alone would have cut down on the internal conflicts considerably. Guess I answered my own question lol
