My three are the Storm Coast, the Hissing Wastes, and while it isn't on the list the Frostback Basin.

1. Wellspring 2. Frostback Basin 3. Emerald Graves
All for a combination of aesthetics and types of quests available. But I voted for:
1. Emerald Graves 2. Hinterlands (beautiful, and very few Orlesians) 3. Hissing Wastes (ambiance, as others have eloquently explained)

Emerald Graves, Emprise du Lion and Crestwood.
I like their aesthetics, environment/weathering/setting, history, quests and layout.
Also like the Fallow Mire, has great atmosphere. I didn't care for the Western Approach at first but it grew on me. Just wish it wasn't banter-bugged.
Strongly dislike: Forbidden Oasis, Storm Coast (hate their topography with a passion) and Exalted Plains (always gives me a headache.)
I don't hate the Hinterlands I'm just sick of being there at this point.

1. Hinterlands 2. Crestwood 3. Exalted Plains
Hear me out before you get the pitchforks out. The Hinterlands is massive and has so much content. Yes, you have to space it just right or else it gets tedious, but it was the only zone where I kept coming back and chipping away at the quests. I also really enjoy that it's populated by animals (yes, that includes Satan's creation, the bears) and people.
I love Crestwood because of the change you can bring about. I love how it switches from dark and gloomy to a sunny day.
I enjoyed the Exalted Plains. Can't say why. Maybe I really like the Dalish elves?
My least favourite are:
1. Forbidden Oasis. Way too empty for my taste. Even the Hissing Waste had some people.
2. Storm Coast. It's pretty but small. There's not much to do either, but the fight between the giant and the dragon left me buzzing with excitement.
3. Emerald Graves. Yeah...it felt too uniform? Everywhere was just green. I like variety in my zones.

My favorite zone is the Frostback Basin. Its content is very well balanced between exploration and story-related stuff. And it's really, really beautiful. Never get tired of exploring the different areas there and meeting the avvar & Ameridan for the first time... such a great DLC! Only thing I don't like about the zone are those damn poison spiders everywhere...

Favorites:
Crestwood - for the good quest line and the keep Hissing Wastes - the huge desert at night with the dwarven ruins made for a lovely atmosphere Emprise du Lion - magnificent snowy landscape, interesting stuff like the old warden keep to find. (and good metal to mine)
Disliked:
Emerald Graves - too green. Boring quest line. (the chateau was good but it was a map of its own) Forbidden Oasis - a pain to navigate. Boring quest line.

Emerald Graves, Hinterlands and Storm Coast for me. I love the forest/mountain landscapes. Least Favourite: Forbidden Oasis, Hissing Wastes (though I do like the fact that I can actually put my horsey to good use there), and Emprise du Lion (kind of too big for not having all that many quests, I think)

Am I the only one who thinks that Emprise (and the trenches in the Exalted Plains) is a huge pain to navigate? Parts of it feel like a maze, and I keep getting stuck with walls of rock right in front of me with quest markers juuust out of reach beyond them.
Or maybe I'm just missing something. It's probably that.

It's probably that. I feel that way about the Hinterlands. Especially the wolves quest. But I remember hitting walls in Emprise and just being like...huh. I'll just walk along this mountain wall like I'm blind and screw around until I find something to kill. Is there a mod that just unhides the entire map in DAI? That'd be awesome.

I'm surprised at all the love the Hissing Wastes is getting. Not that I don't like it, but usually in polls like this it's always at the bottom. Also surprised at how little love the Western Approach is getting. The Still Ruins. Griffon Wing Keep. Coracavus. The Abyssal Baked Dragon. Frederic of Serault. Okay, I might have gone too far with that last one, but still.

I just figured I wouldn't be alone in that, as I've seen complaints about it on guides and other things It's a beautiful zone, but the twists and turns combined with lack of banter makes it seem like a very lonely place, in my opinion.

My favorites:
The top two slots go to the Emerald Greaves and Crestwood. Both are very beautiful and carry a specific mood, and have reasonably good questlines and generally enough to do as well.
The Storm Coast takes the third slot. It lacks meaningful things to do, but the landscape more than makes up for that. I don't think I ever played another game where I just stood there watching the sea for minutes at a time, repeatedly in different playthroughs.
This is what I said about the Forbidden Oasis: "....made by a sadistic level designer who made sure that the way between any two points of interest is as convoluted as possible." I dislike this. I also dislike the northern part of the Exalted Plains with its endless backtracking, its going around hills to look for a way up to points of interest, its annoying collection quests and its endless undead.

Hinterlands. Look great and has a lot of integration with the pre-Skyhold storyline. Emerald Forest. Looks even better, although the Freemen storyline should have linked in to WHWM properly. Hissing Wastes. Also gorgeous. I really liked the story behind the ruins, but wished its repercussions were explored further.

I voted for: Emerald Graves - So pretty, and other than the occasional great bear, not filled with vicious wildlife every time you turn around. Extra points for the creepy chateau. Western Approach - The ambient music makes this place (and HW) for me. I love the dragon quest and the Still Ruins. Hissing Wastes - So peaceful. A great place for the Inquisitor to go and think. Again, love the music. Also, dwarfy ruins.
If it was on the list: Frostback Basin would probably replace EG.
Honorable mention: Emprise, for the giant wolf statue behind the keep. The bright white sometimes gives me a headache, which falls in line with the red lyrium giving all the characters a headache. Fighting the 3 dragons back-to-back-to-back is pretty epic too.

I love love love Emerald Graves. First of all it looks absolutely gorgeous. Also, the ambient music is fantastic. Most of my Inquisitors have been Lavellans, so there's always been this deeper connection there for the character as well.
My second favourite would be Crestwood, mainly because they really hit the nail on the head with an overarching storyline for the location. The fact that the sun comes out after I close the rift makes it that much more satisfying for me because I can actually see the difference I made. A simple change, but very effective. Plus the whole major revelation thing was pretty neat, and the connection to the 5th blight.
I also voted for the Hinterlands, as shocking as it may be. I enjoy the familiarity of it, and I tend to complete most of the quests, even though 99% are fetch quests.
Now for the ones I dislike...There are two locations that make me think 'kill me now' when I need to visit them - the Exalted Plains and Fallow Mire. The first one is just..so..dull. And the second one is so miserable. However I do like the Avvar fight in the end there. The semi-completionist in me doesn't just let me skip them, either. Ah well.

My first pick would be Hinterlands, because it's so populated. There's the starting camp, the refugee camp, redcliffe, the farm and the castle with the cultists. Also scouts here and there, as well as different NPCs. It's such a lively place. Plus it's familiar and homey and a good mix of reality and fantasy. It's an excellent starting area, and while I feel a bit anxious and stressed on how I need to do allll these quests again, it's still a fun place to go through. It's relevant to the story and nicely filled with stuff to do. Such a good '' this is the beginning... '' feeling when you enter it as well!
My second pick would be Crestwood, because it's an enjoyable short area, and I enjoy how clearing that super rift in the dungeon has an effect on how the place looks afterwards.
My third pick would be Emerald Graves and ONLY because of the Villa and the Chateau, I love looking at them. Otherwise I don't like it, too green, TOO GREEN, just really a boring, obvious fantasy forest.
Zones not mentioned on this poll that deserve credit: Caer Oswin, absolutely amazing and atmospheric. Haven, an excellent base with tons of personality. Remains iconic and better than Skyhold. (The outside of) Winter Palace (during Trespasser), just perfect, I loooved it. More Orlais, Orlais is so good and fancy! Frostback Basin, it's A+.

Hissing wastes. I imagine that my Inquisitor, being full of cunning and guile would take Sera* there, set up a tent an suggest that they find ways to amuse themselves until sunrise. Forbidden Oasis for the oasis itself. Also finding so many ways to get lost when diving into caves. The Hinterlands. I also have completionist tendencies so I come out of there having way too many levels. *She's street smart, but not scenario smart, muahahaha! Have some madeira, my dear!
