Took a break and finished it now. 4-2-2-4 a logic rasoner with grasps. It's doable without a gun. Game dropped me right into a standoff cos I had no clue how to pass time to get gun (a timed meeting) and all side quests were already done all lands surveyed. Thought cabinet thoughts were kinda meh, except one artistic. It relied on conceptualisation checks which gave +1 morale and 10XP each passed check. That skill from logic tree like the the metaphysical tap. It was a jackpot in XP returns. Never had to bother about morale neither. I think I ended with 4 or 5 skill points unspent - they just kept coming at the end. I can totally see a 2-4-4-2 build giving a complete different experience. Main quest is pretty linear with a fucked up situation near the end where you have to pass a shiver check to continue. It's bound to have you run aimlessly and potentially get stuck. I can't be arsed with such things so I read how to do it. The main quest line is not obvious and I mostly dint bother to press it and got busy solving side stuff and exploring. Would have liked to know more about the pale but maybe my build wasn't so good for that. Wasted a lot of time for a shite thought to internalise and when I got it I immediately forgot it - big disappointment to get sober. You can learn a LOT about the pale from talking to that researcher at the church. And from Joyce, she probably tells you the most about it.

Went 4-4-3-1 and died of two heart attacks on day 1. Also was unable to open the thing in the doomed commercial area at all even with all of the positive modifiers I could muster, so never finished the quests associated with the researcher. Finally, I avoided taking on tasks from Claire until too late, so was VERY badly prepared for the showdown. On the upside, I really enjoyed the ending conversation and am psyched to tell Lena.
I should go back to Wednesday to try to do the things I didn't/couldn't do the first go through, but the slow walk/run animation is giving me a bit of pause.

Eeeeerm, even with the tool she gives you? That thing basically auto unlocks it. Or we are talking about something else?

I tried with the tool from the woman and the wearable and the thing powered off. Not sure if there are any other ways to get positive modifiers. I even resorted to chemical assistance the third time although my cop had been avoiding indulging up until that point, just because I had already maxed my strength to 2. By the time I gave in and Googled how to get another chance I came into town and the climax of the plot started.
Looking back, I think it was because I wasn't paying attention and was trying to internalize something that lowered my chances. So it was my own fault.

Did you unplug the freezer first?

Did you unplug the freezer first? Yes. I can't remember how it went exactly, but it was something like this: Try 1: Strength 1, unplugged (+1), gloves (+1), prybar -> FAIL
Try 2, next day: Strength 2 (maxed), unplugged, (+1), gloves (+1), good tool -> FAIL Try 3: Strength 2, unplugged (+1), gloves (+1), good tool, man from Hjelmdall shirt (+1), beer (+1) -> FAIL Oh wait, I've been researching getting sober which has been giving me -2 to physical instrument! ARGH. Google how to unlock the white check, which is now locked, because I can't raise physical instrument any more. Start to internalize Contact Mike. Go to town to try the freezer again -- nope, the end game has started.

Just finished the game last night, easily GOTY for me and a strong contender for one of my favorite games period. Practically feels custom tailored to me really, between the magical realist China Mieville weird fiction inspired tone of the game, the ability to play an absolute chaotic neutral disaster of a human being, the nuanced character writing and the incisive critique of modern capitalism and the all-too-often stuck in the past mentality of modern leftism.
Personally played a very Inland Empire/Shivers/Empathy-heavy character who was, among other things, an absolutely GIANT COMMUNIST, convinced utterly that he was the harbinger of a vast bloodletting to come, adamant that he had ESP and was a member of the secretive Remote Viewers Division (not convinced he didn’t have ESP honestly given how often Inland Empire, Shivers, and Esprit de Corps were exactly on the money, gotta love how ambiguous the paranatural shit is in this game), and an aspiring amateur cryptozoologist. Had an absolute blast, never had a computer role playing experience even remotely like it. Also very rarely have I had an experience as horrifyingly tense as the tribunal in a video game, the weight and awful staying power violence has in the game is remarkable and very true to life.
Also Kim Kitsuragi has got to be the best companion character I’ve ever seen in a game and I hope more games approach player/companion dynamics from the perspective of making the companion the straight man to the protagonist’s absolutely wild bullshit, it made for so many hysterical interactions and every time I got Kim to crack a smile or engage briefly in Harry’s (or should I say Raphael Ambrosius Costeau’s) shenanigans it was such a good feeling. The moment where it became clear that he truly trusted Harry despite all the ridiculous antics was legitimately heartwarming.
Anyway, just loved virtually every element of this game and the few quibbles I have with it (the only one really worth mentioning is that it could have used some alternate skill checks to progress the main quest, on day 5 I got stonewalled for a little and spent an hour farting around accomplishing very little until I found a viable path) are vastly overshadowed by everything else. ZA/UM is easily the developer I’ll be most on the lookout for new content from from here on out, and to think this is a fucking debut title, goddamn.

The Final Cut will release in the next few days, been holding off on my second playthrough once I heard about it.
I got a very rare trophy on my first playthrough... I RPd as myself, and became the sorriest cop ever or something like that. The game makes fun of you and your choices, which I appreciated.

So.... Have any of you received these awesome acheivos? Unbelievably Boring F**k - say 7 incredibly boring things. Literally the sorriest cop on Earth - apologize 10 times. These are the two I'm proudest of currently I am also The World's Most Laughable Centrist and the Biggest Communism Builder. LMAO, this game. Only 8/32, guess I need another run. Time to get my Olivia Newton John on for this game, I wanna get physical and be an ego-centric douche. Then I can't wait to push my wife into this game. She doesn't really get video games, and I think this game is a good pace for a non-gamer. She likes stories, and this has one
