So if the developers wanted to make something different they are not allowed to because you have expectations of what BioWare can and cannot make? Well that's BSN for ya. They don't want nothing different and wanted everything to stay the same. That's a bit reductive when really what old complain-y BSN probably wanted was what they liked of both Mass Effect 1, 2 and DA:O, or even the good parts of DA2, and they wanted improvements on top of something like that continuing in the same style. Rebranding your IPs with every release only serves to replace the audience. You're asking for it, and if it wasn't clear with ME3 every time BioWare makes a new game they're just as much trying to sell it to people who are not fans as people who already like what they do, and one could argue they actually pander more to newcomers with what the product is whereas pandering to fans only comes from their community-management.

I'm going to have to disagree with this. Yes, Bioware made each new game an accessible entry point for new players, but they do not pander to newcomers more than fans. The Mass Effect and Dragon Age series are both full of nods, references, and easter eggs that only a longtime fan would understand. Conrad Verner (and his sister), Blasto the Hanar Spectre, and the All-Elcor production of Hamlet, are just a few of the examples that come to mind. Some plot threads and side stories make very little sense if you didn't play previous games. Regarding the "old complain-y BSN," I feel that's inaccurate as well. Some people wanted Bioware to continue making Star Wars and D&D games, so those individuals hated Mass Effect. It was a third-person, action-oriented RPG with a fully-voiced protagonist, which was wildly different than their previous games. Then Mass Effect 2 came around and some hated it because of the "streamlined" gameplay, or simply because they hated that EA acquired Bioware. However, it then became the favorite of many when Mass Effect 3 came out. My point is, it doesn't matter how objectively good or bad the next game is. A good number of people on the BSN tend to hate whatever the new game because it's new, and most are completely unaware that they're even doing it. In regard to the topic of this thread, Casey Hudson's update has me feeling hopeful. From the beginning, my hope has been that Anthem would be a Bioware story/adventure that I could enjoy and experience with friends. Plus, this matches up with Mike Laidlaw's comments in his interview with GameInformer, where he said that Bioware's aim with Anthem was to combine their unique style of interactive storytelling with a cooperative experience. Obviously, that's no indication of whether it'll be successful, but I'm excited nonetheless. Even a "bad" Bioware game still has an enjoyable story with a good cast of supporting characters, which means that Anthem will have an easy leg up on other games like Destiny and the Division.
