Come spring 2019, Anthem will face some potentially stiff competition with games release a few months earlier. This may dilute its sales numbers because the player market base is split among existing "fresh" games. These are some of the games that may hurt Anthem: Call of Duty Red Dead Redemption Darksiders 3 GFTO Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night -- it's Castlevania like and I love this genreFinal Fantasy 7 (remake) - Some of the above games are 4-man co-op, open world and are story based/RPG. Call of Duty may have that "free-for-all" combat style currently in vogue. What do you guys think? Will Anthem have competition? Don't see much competition there. Everything is being put into place for Anthem to succeed and the clear air it's getting on release is just one more example. If Anthem fails it's not because EA didn't do enough for Bioware.

Well, I guess we'll see in today's update. Warmind better deliver something remotely special or it's in a bit of trouble. I'd even go so far to say that they better give our Guardians their voice back. I mean friggin' hell I don't want Nolan North saying EVERYTHING. From the sound of things, the most promising changes won’t be coming until the September expansion. Warmind is going to be a test of whether it can hold enough of the fanbase’s attention until then.
Interesting you should say "hold...... fanbase attention". There is an article in Gamespot that briefly touches on Destiny 2's grind and a lack of content. It also touches on the upcoming DLC Warmind, due out in May. The author wonders if it fixes the problems that plagued the game's incessant grind resulting in player fatigue (btw, I suffered this with ME3MP and MEAMP). Imo, the article describes the D2 traps that Anthem designers may fall into. I'm now wondering if Bio has enough time to avoid them as well. Link: Traps

Wow, that is welcomed and unwelcomed news, I say. I've fallen into a dissonance state. Should I be happy or sad? I can only buy one.

Anthem may have an ace up its proverbial sleeve..
It occurred to me that Casey's hint at the game's uniqueness thing and a focus on story may be just an origin story for our protagonist and how he/she became a Freelancer with the initial armour/weapons specialization. Thus, the statement " you can play solo". Of course DA:O had this. But, hey, why no reboot something that worked? However, after that it's co-op play all the way.
A strong mini RPG SP campaign goes a long way to mollify the veterans, as long as it's not a five hour one.

Cyberpunk? No way. But I wouldn't be surprised if Bethesda's new IP drops this year or early next year. I was being a bit cheeky about Cyberpunk, if a trailer for that drops at E3, I doubt it will actually arrive until 2020. Bethesda, on the other hand, could well drop its rumored 'Starfield' end of 2018 or Spring 2019 as they follow the 'rule of one E3'.What would be comedy gold is if Anthem gets a Spring launch date announced on June 9th at EA Play and Bethesda drop a huge new IP right on top of it, announced on June 10th at their showcase.

Right, but Bethesda has a "style" for their games and I doubt they will vary too much from that. Even having a sci-fi theme doesn't mean a direct competition for the overall focus of the game at least what I expect from Bethesda would be different. My small group of friends waits a year before buying Bethesda games so then they have both official and modder patches to fix the problems with the games and I wonder how many others have that approach as well?

We are gamers, we game, we can handle the release of more than one game. Regardless, the games you've listed aren't all that similar to Anthem except in that they are highly anticipated releases and are all released the year before so as far as competition goes I think it's going to have minimal impact.

I can spend literally months playing a Bethesda game launch, and the same applies to a BioWare game. I'd rather not have two of those drop on top of each other...

Trailer #3 for Red Dead has a lot of story, dialogue and cinematic cut scenes... reminds me of past Bio games.. like DA. Graphics are good too.
Now Bio with Anthem at E3 Play will reveal what when compared to Red Dead? .... it's an online MP in co-op mode. I expect 2c: (1) Game mechanics. (2) Some combat. (3) Possibly the other side of a Shaper Storm. (4) More co-op voice dialogue with "friends" = scripted (5) Weapons and another J suit. (6) Open world graphics
It sounds terribly interesting doesn't it?

Red Dead Redemption is going to be a good game, but I have confidence that Anthem will carve its own niche very fast! Considering what it is, I'm mostly curious as to how much I can do to my Javelin. If there's varied enough enemies and I have a smorgasbord of weapon options to heap onto my exosuit, that alone could occupy tons of playtime.

There is no question that we will have a smorgasbord of weapons. The ME series taught us that lesson. Oddly, enough, with ME:A I used maybe a handful of weapons in MP. on a constant basis. The rest I found useless. Expect same for bullets type... long, short, red, blue... explosive, chemical, penetrators, thermals, ... it will be mtx nirvana.

For Destiny 2, Warmind introduces = "...an incredibly engaging new mode--one that introduces a whole new style of play for first-person shooter gaming ...". In a Bungie developer Insights video, they talked about fighting to get a weapon that you know is "behind/hidden somewhere" and you want it and you fight to get it. This mechanics makes the player want to stay engaged. Video is here.I don't have destiny1 or 2. and I take marketing speak with lots of hot air. Still, if a player has knowledge of some gear that can improve success and its location, I think we all would go for it. Being a shooter of course means endless grinding to get it... Will Anthem see this as an opportunity to emulate success?

Strangely, the advantage offered by the 'best' weapon over the average weapon in ME3MP wasn't stellar. You're more likely to succeed by having a high-range (but not necessarily the 'best') weapon, but practicing and 'getting gud'... BioWare would often nerf a weapon that was getting out of hand.

TBH the way Rockstar is i have more confidence in the mtx in Anthem an having a more complete game than what ever state RRD2 comes out in, time will tell as always an i hope my worries for RRD2 prove worthless as i loved the original game an tbh may just play the backwards compatible version
