To be fair, Captain Marvel pissing people off with what she says and does is often true in the comics too.

Who gives a shit what Brie Larson believes? Her real-world views are not an indictment of the character she's playing as or the movie.
Tom Cruise is a crank but that does not mean his Mission Impossible characters are advancing his odious views nor that the movies are propaganda for them. A reasonable human being can separate their issues with him and his thoughts from the experience of and discussion about MI.
But we're not dealing with reasonable human beings now are we? We're dealing with nihilists who are angry at the world because they can't get laid and thus want to sow discord wherever and however they can. Therefore, a movie that is not out yet and nobody has watched has already "ruined" its producing studio.
Watch the movie or boycott it, then. That's your prerogative, but keep your cultural critiques to yourself. Nobody is interested in that drivel, so stop doing what you accuse others of: shoving your ideology down our throats.

I hope it didn't seem like I was bashing the film, I was mostly poking fun earlier at the character of Captain Marvel from the comics, rather than Brie Larson or the movie.
I don't get why people are immediately jumping on the hate-train either, if someone from Black Panther had said something controversial before that movie had came out, would everyone have boycotted it?

Well there was that whole (bunk) narrative that Black Panther was black Alt-Right. I imagine there is a 1:1 correlation between people who thought that and are attacking this movie as some sort of Trojan Horse for a larger political/cultural agenda.

Well there was that whole (bunk) narrative that Black Panther was black Alt-Right. I imagine there is a 1:1 correlation between people who thought that and are attacking this movie as some sort of Trojan Horse for a larger political/cultural agenda. Honestly that feels like the world we living in right now.
We can't just be happy to have Star Wars or Star Trek back after a long absence, we've got to treat any creative decisions they make that we don't like, as being the end-of-the-world-and-all-sanity! Or that having female characters and diversity somehow means they're promoting an "progressive agenda", ignoring that we've spent decades criticising the orig-trig of Star Wars for it's lack of female characters and diversity, whereas Star Trek has always been about diversity and progressive ideals.
The constant whinging over trivial issues is kinda getting on my nerves. I don't really appreciate as a fan being told that I can't enjoy my fandoms anymore because half of the internet have decided to declare war against them. We're allowed to be unhappy with what a franchise is doing, but chasing actors off of social media is wanton cruelty that serves no purpose.
There's my tuppence, end rant.

Her real-world views are not an indictment of the character she's playing as or the movie. Well none of this started with Captain Marvel till Brie herself decided to make her real-world views part of the movie's promotion. There isn't really anyone else to blame here but her, and the media I suppose. After the end of Infinity War I was pretty excited to see Captain Marvel. Now, meh I can take it or leave it. Brie and the media are the ones that have focused on her feminist malarkey and all the responding noise that was obviously going to come along with it. No one has even been talking about the movie, its role in the MCU, or how it will impact Endgame. Its all just "oh Brie is so great for hating white men!". Not exactly the way to get people excited to see the movie.

Not exactly the way to get people excited to see the movie. especially if you happen to be white... And a man. Not sure what to call it a full boycott seems unreasonable since i wasn't comitted to seeing the movie in the first place but this has killed my hype a bit and has ensured i won't see the movie...in theaters anyways. A. Her comments were racist and sexist. No other way of going about it. B. While i understand her desire to get more seats at the table she could've said that. No need to bring race or sex into it. Besides even if her comments were benign you know damn well if the situations were reversed and a white male actor made similar comments about a minority they'd be eaten alive. (Just look at what's happening to Liam Neeson) C. On my part i usually do seperate the actress view from the character and overall work. Real life politics don't usually effect my enjoyment of a movie. But there is something especially irksome about this case. Still I guess when I do get around to seeing the movie it might not be that bad. I did have similar reservations about Star Trek Discovery when it came out that one of the directors chastised Jason Isaacs, calling a stop to filming, when he adlibbed the word god during a scene. Not only has Disc become one of my favorite treks, if not my favorite, but it is actually probably the friendliest to religion.

I'm frankly shaking my head. I've been hearing;
* it's not possible to cancel a pre-order CM ticket in the US * cinemas in the US and Australia have only CM tickets to sell on March 8. No other movies are available.
True, false? Irregardless, I haven't been to a theatre for more than a decade. Movies I'm interested in are on bluray. No CM disc for me.

I'll admit, Captain Marvel is a movie that I find very hard for me to anticipate for largely because:
1. I was never really fan of Carol Danvers in the comics
2. The marketting for this movie is surprisingly lackluster
3. All the pre-mature internet hate that's becoming so irritating and toxic that I just don't want ANY association with Captain Marvel (just like what the internet did with me and Star Wars)

Nothing like shitting on the fanbase. White male being a high percentage and the other high is probably white female. When Wonder Woman was released, at least Gal Gadot had class and didn't throw any of her personal "political" opinions out there. When Marvel tanks, maybe Brie can sit back and reflect on that she should keep her hole shut next time.

No other movies are available. True, false? Irregardless, I haven't been to a theatre for more than a decade. Movies I'm interested in are on bluray. No CM disc for me. I had heard rumors of that but wasn't sure, so I just checked my local theater listings.
All this week up till Thursday they are showing Alita, Cold Pursuit, Fighting with my Family, Green Book, Greta, How to Train your Dragon, The Lego Movie 2, Some Tyler Perry movie, and Isn't It Romantic. Never heard of most of them, but there it is. Starting Friday and for the rest of the week they have one movie, Captain Marvel. That is it. Just wow.
And this is a big theater with a dozen different theater rooms in it. But that is it. Just Captain Marvel. For an entire week. Wonder how much that cost Disney? That is pretty damn desperate if you ask me. When I went to see Infinity War, even then, they still had other movies showing. I'm honestly flabbergasted, and highly amused. The MCU is quickly becoming nothing more than a meme.

Ok this probably explains it.
I guess the reason Disney is perceived to pull strings is because of the CM fire. Nevertheless, I doubt it makes any difference to people not interested in CM. They'll do something else from March 8 onwards.

I'm not really into MCU. I mean I know about the heroes. I like the movies that pop up but I don't keep tabs about them. This fire raging however, just couldn't be ignored. The volleys are going fast and furious. I've to confess that for the first time, I'm keen to find out what's going to happen in the weeks ahead. In the meantime, I leave this guy's final thoughts on the matter. He's practical.

What I'm saying is: have one conversation (analyze the merits of the social/political positions in question) or have the other (talk about the movie). Leaving aside that one of those conversations is not permitted here anyway -- nor should it be, based on recent forum history --, what I'm seeing is people doing this weird thing of making these hyperbolic, leaping statements/conclusions about the movie as a way of childishly hitting back against political views they don't like, and it's not conducive to having either discussion. You object to having to hear about her politics? Then you should have no problem sympathizing with me objecting to hearing about your politics.

There's nothing wrong in not wanting to financially support a film that's headlined by a bigot who thinks poorly of you and other members of your social group. Anyone who says otherwise are being disingenuous.

Don’t know much about it. I mean I read a couple comics way way back when but I mostly know her as the chick in the coma thanks to rogue. I’ve heard a radio commercial for it and it sounded terrible. Maybe I overacted to it but with how BioWare games sort of shifted to constant quips which I dislike the commercial struck me wrong. Talking fate of the universe and she sounded unserious. Low desire to see it from that. I’m fine with comedy in these movies Thor 3 was awesome. But the entire tone was comedy, if your tone is it’s a serious situation I don’t want constant jokes, quips, unserious attitude.
Then the controversy crap cropped up and what desire I had bottomed out. If I had wanted to see the movie probably wouldn’t maybe a difference. I use a Roman Polanski scale for my entertainment boycotts. This isnt close. But when I’m not really enthused it doesn’t take much to shift me away. I’ve probably only seen 1/2 the marvel movies in the theaters. So not being enthused for them isn’t rare.

This made my day: Wonder how long and how many times they'll reboot the Captain Femnazi movies? About the same amount as the comics? Any future films's major issues would be in adapting the source material, atrocious outside of a few runs, to the big screen. Carol lacks a tailor made supporting cast/rogues gallery to ground, and serve as foils to her character unlike Peter Parker, Mark Grayson or Bruce Wayne. Editorial needs to tone down on the team ups like A-Force, Alpha Flight, and the Ultimates which are all results of her lacking in the supporting cast department. Carol needs to be written as an organic character not a symbol or representative of, needs an inner conflict beyond alcoholism or - and i could go on but Marvel's editorial needs to stop being lazy. Better yet i'll be lazy, TL;DR they should just copy Grant Morrison's current run on The Green Lantern.
