Coming right from the "Half Life 3" forbidden and forgotten shelf I present: www.pcgamer.com/stalker-2-is-in-development-again/Not much info (to put it rather mildly) apart from the statement that they're working on it. GSC apparently somehow, by some mysterious reason is back at it. Will this thing be cancelled again? only the god of time and premonitions knows. Where they got the money to develop the game? how is the state of GSC as a company? Is this bollocks? and other rather important questions to be aware of before having any hope for the game, are concerns I do not know the answer for. Am I surprised? that would be an understatement.

I loved the STALKER games, so this seems like a welcome surprise. But a surprise it is! I thought GSC was canned and the STALKER team went on to develop Survarium. Or something along these lines… But 2021... That's going to be a while...

Or something along these lines… But 2021... That's going to be a while... 2021 is a really far away date, and what's more puzzling, why are they coming with this out of the blue? You want to make sure you're releasing the game so announcing it for a date so far in the future when you do not know what could happen is a bit rushed I think. This would make more sense if they wanted to kickstart the game or something and are trying to get backers, but to my understanding that's not the case. I'm actually concerned about the budget, where they got the money from? Here's what happened to GSC: They went pseudo bankrupt, at some point after the last Stalker released. Closed doors. Some guy was hoarding the Stalker IP and refused to sell it/sell it at a reasonable price. Many devs fucked off and opened a new studio, those worked on Survarium which turned out rather badly, to the point that you don't really hear about the game no more. I don't even know if the game is still alive. Old scraps of the team re-opened shop, got to work on a sequel to a very old strategy game made by them called Cossacks (similar to AoE), they got the game out, apparently well received, but obviously the strategy market is very niche and honestly I doubt they made much more money as to cover the development. And now, out of the blue they announce STALKER 2. It would make more sense to announce it one year prior to release, or get a kickstarter campaign going if you just want to announce you're working on it which seems to be the case imo.

Finally!
When GSG made that awful MP arena STALKER rippoff, I feared for the future of the series.
Good to see I was wrong.
Wonder if the Zone will finally cover Europe as the last game was hinting at.

In case anyone seeing this is curious about the games, here's a pretty good guide on the Steam Community. It doesn't contain all the answers (wouldn't be any fun if it did), but it should be enough to get you off the ground. Be sure to read the FAQ linked in the post as well, otherwise you'll miss out on a few technical details like this one

I think the same happens in TES Oblivion, I remember I tried the game a couple of years back with some mods, I was getting 1500+ fps. Worst part is that you'll never know if you don't turn on the fps counter. I don't think a new GPU can be fried though, it will surely shut down at some point, pretty much like the CPU. But who knows.

Supposedly they only announced this game to get a publisher or something like that. Even so, color me interested. I've heard good things about the original Stalker game, so I'll probably get this one.

I've heard good things about the original Stalker game, so I'll probably get this one. Yeah, that's kind of a bummer. Because it essentially means they've got not much done hence the absurd announce+release date, even more so because I have no clue if any publisher is realistically speaking interested. Which all translates into danger zone again for the project, plus I'm super sure they don't have a good budget for the development. On top of all that, they're going to use Unreal Engine 4 apparently? which sucks because it means little to no support at all for mods, a very important part of the first games. Don't mean to be a downer, but this does not bode well... There're actually 3 games, they're all standalone, although second and third are kinda "DLC" type of games. They use about the same assets, same engine and graphical fidelity.

Okay, so it has come to my attention this article here from Eurogamer that will bring quite a lot of light into this whole STALKER situation... I'm going to give you the lvl 100 TL;DR and say it doesn't bode well. At all. Now, if you happen to be the ultimate STALKER fan and you're interested in the franchise and what have you, I'd suggest giving the article a read (even though it's a bit extensive). But I'll just assume people wont do it, so I'll give ya'll the actual TL;DR. STALKER as a franchise right from the get go was in trouble. A guy (who is now 4A Studios CEO) was sent to Ukraine to essentially put the team together and fix the disastrous development that Stalker SoC was. GSC is not a particularly focused team, but what's worse they do dumb shit like hyping people even though they have no work done at all. That exactly happened with SoC, and is happening right now with the announcement of the second game. They're following the same path of getting investors even though GSC as a company is not reliable and has nothing to show to the investors. And that's why, I believe STALKER 2 wont be a thing so long as it reminds in their hands. Especially now that their numbers are GREATLY diminished. They have no money. No work done. And it happened before with almost catastrophic consequences. This right here, is the recipe for disaster. I'm sad. But it is how it is.
