Hi guy (hopefully someone is reading this) I have just restarted my DA:I as a mage and was wondering on peoples builds. I myself on this save am thinking of going down the Strom tree.
Any and all idea welcome as I love to try out other people stills and set ups. Feel free to discuss in-depth

storm tree for sure. get static cage as fast as you can, worry about upgrades afterward. trust me, this move is so helpful and awesome. also spec wise necromancer. both fun dialogue from companions and makes killing enemies more simple.

My current mage is a Qunari Knight-Enchanter with the passive that gives her barrier every time she damages an enemy with a spell. The attack she uses most is Chain Lightning, which hits several enemies at once and therefore works well with that passive.
I was planning to combine that with the passive that makes barriers take longer to decay, the masterwork that builds Guard every time the user lands a hit, and... either the masterwork that gives a chance to use Chain Lightning every time you hit or the masterwork that gives you a chance to use Hidden Blades. (I'm leaning towards the latter, because it does more damage and because it lets me score more total hits if the enemy's alone.)
I'd considered making her a set of silverite armor using a schematic that only warriors can use without silverite, since that would make her even more durable, but I prefer having mage armor and crafting it out of materials that boost her magic stat.

Yep, storm tree is a good build, particularly with Knight Enchanter. Stick in enough of the spirit path so you can revive companions if necessary, although my KE was a virtual single handed battle machine even against dragons, so stopped bothering reviving them as it distracted me from the job at hand.

My canon mage was a Storm mage (personally I just love the electricity tree in general when playing a mage). Took pretty much everything from the Spirit tree as well (In my mind she was healer and that was the closest I could get - plus gotta love defensive passives) If there was a Healer spec she would have taken that, but it wasn't so she took Knight Enchanter. Had some (headcanon) reasons for taking that one, but nothing that really had to do with gameplay or mechanics. It worked out well for her though. Don't remember what all she took from other two trees, except I know she took fade step (as well as maybe winter's grasp and mana surge) from Winter; if I took anything from Inferno it was probably just enough to get flashpoint - I usually had Dorian with me and he was built as a PyroNecromancer.

I look at builds differently than some and usually go with what I find most fun to play, rather than what is the most OP or whatever. For that, I tend to play fire/necromancer on my mages and I like speccing Dorian that way for those times I control him. Fearing and panicking enemies is great fun, as is exploding them with walking bomb.

I tend to go with what makes the most sense to me from an RP perspective, regardless of whether it's the most exciting/OP build. I take Dorian and Vivienne with me a lot - he gets Storm, Fire, Necro and she gets Ice, Spirit, KE.
For my own mage I usually go with Fire, Spirit, Rift.
Necromancer is definitely the most fun for me to play, though. I live for Horror and Walking Bomb.
