From the Gameinformer article on Anthem
“I would say a majority of the people at BioWare are working on Anthem, but we do have people who are figuring out what a next Dragon Age would look like,” says BioWare general manager Casey Hudson. And as for Mass Effect? “It’s my baby. I helped start Mass Effect from the beginning. Of course we intend to get back to it at some point.”
This gives me hope, but the cynical side of me says intentions don't always result in something. However, I find this heartening and thought I'd share.
EDIT: A video of the interview:
8/9 From Casey Hudson's midsummer update (Thanks to Hrungr and SofaJockey who posted it in the Twitter thread and Bioware News, respectively):
blog.bioware.com/2018/08/02/mid-summer-update/
"And yes – we hear loud and clear the interest in BioWare doing more Dragon Age and Mass Effect, so rest assured that we have some teams hidden away working on some secret stuff that I think you’ll really like – we’re just not ready to talk about any of it for a little while…"

Even in the best case scenario it'll still be three years before we hear anything concrete about a new Mass Effect game, unfortunately. Still, good to hear that he wants to go back to it at some point, and hopefully EA is permitting (assuming Bio doesn't get shut down in the meantime)

Idk, to me, it still sounds like he personally wants to do it, but they have no idea how they want to proceed. But I doubt we'll see any more from Andromeda. The OT was his baby, Andromeda was someone else's. If he gets a chance to bring it back, its probably going to be his creation that he sold EA on.
Also, I'm not even a Destiny, shooter, MMO, whatever player, but I thought Anthem looked good. They went out of their way to talk about it having a good story, and being solo player friendly. If that's the case, I may check it out based on what I've seen so far.

Lord no, Ideally they'd give it to someone like CDPR, but that'll never happen, Obsidian is....doing things.... truth be told I don't know who I'd like to get the franchise in the event of BioWare's shuttering

EA may sell the rights, or not. But it's not like the IP is automatically up for grabs if Bioware gets shut down. EA could give ME to another in house studio or just keep it on ice forever.

Lord no, Ideally they'd give it to someone like CDPR, but that'll never happen, Obsidian is....doing things.... truth be told I don't know who I'd like to get the franchise in the event of BioWare's shuttering To be honest, we don't even know how EA really feels about Andromeda and their stance on it. My understanding is that "player engagement" whatever that means is what they are aiming for and Andrew Wilson went out of his way to mention that it is doing really well in that front. Don't get me wrong I doubt Andromeda met their "we plan on having this many sales" numbers, but I have a hard time thinking EA lost money on the game either after talking about having tens of millions of dollars of premium edition revenue they had to push to the next quarter. With how people reacted to Andromeda, I doubt anyone would want to approach making a Mass Effect game. There were bad spots of course, but people unwilling to look beyond those and drone on about the same thing for months that other studios get a pass on I think would give a lot of caution to developers and publishers. Combine that with very few people actually making games like that for they are a more risky style of game unless you just want the Mass Effect name slapped on anything like Fallout has become with Fallout 76.

I really don't think they really had to fight hard for it. I think the internet over reacted to the problems with the game and over-analyzed what happened after it. They might have gone back to restructuring the game like they did post-Mass Effect 3, but I highly doubt the franchise is dead like Jade Empire which has been labeled as a commercial failure. The real future of the game was determined by money and it seems EA isn't offended by how the game is doing if you look at the financial report Q&A's.

I don't think they really know what's in ME's future. I just think they don't want to give up on it. However, they have two major obstacles to get over IMHO.
1) What the next game will be? I honestly doubt they'll make a sequel. If it's another named title, what's the premise? Where is it going to be set, will it be moved online like Fallout, etc.
2) The way they left the last game. I'm trying to imagine how I would view ME3 had they pulled the plug with no DLC. No extended cut, Leviathan, Omega or Citadel. I probably would have never played that game again, and definitely would not have pre-ordered Andromeda. History would have judged ME3 far differently, and creating buzz for Andromeda would have been much harder. That's what they'll be facing when they try bring Mass Effect back three or four years from now.
Hudson has a huge task.
