Lady>Trish Uncle Dante>DMC1 Dante Vergil>Nelo Angelo
Also nice back peddling since you didn't mention writing at all, you said best hack and slash. Story doesn't make hack and slash, it's just a side dish. A good hack and slash is held up by its gameplay which is why Ninja Gaiden Black, NG2, DMC3 and DMC 4 are still king. Twisting words is not the smart way to counter my statement. I'm very aware that gameplay can make a difference in games. (Like duh!) But writing a story without any development whatsoever, or to fix it to have a balanced game, is just as problematic as a poor gameplay. Take God of War for example. It's a hack and slash game with an excellent story and the character has evolved into a man of wisdom, a father, and a man who's trying to change his life. That's what DMC need to learn from if they want people to be engaged with the game. “If people want to be engaged with the game” No, that’s what they need to do if they WANT YOU to be engaged with the game, clearly, and you continue you to say that none of the games have any character development and I keep referring back to DMC3 to you. You keep counter arguing with “that’s your opinion” while spouting your own level of bias. Dante goes from a cocky no nonesense guy in DMC3, to a selfless hero halfway through when he meets Lady and realizes the importance of family and takes responsibility for the sins of his family (his father and his brother ) by correcting them through stopping Vergil and Arkham and establishing his Devil Hunting business. It’s how the Devil May Cry firm gets created, that’s character development 101. Not every action game needs a edgy story like the hairy dad simulators Last of Us and God of War. This feels less like an issue of Devil May Cry needing a serious story, and more with you not liking the series for what it’s always been.

i'm still not convinced by designs though, they resemble to much to the reboot. Nero it's pretty awful, poor guy.

It's like their writing and their mentality is like a child, and cannot come up with a mature story and character development like other mature games.

Not every story needs a “mature” story, at least not in the sense that you are referring to, in wanting it to be cinematic, with edgy dialogue and grunpy hair protagonists like Last of Us or God of War. And who says that having a mature story means it has to be like “ insert your favorite games”. What defines maturity? There were plenty of mature themes in DMC3’s story, that still retained the over the top and zany action that embodies Devil May Cry. It’s such an abstrakt word, you can find maturity in almost any game out there. I do think that DMC can tell an “engaging” story even with the over top factor, the Yakuza games did this. If it did something similar to those, while retaining the things that make the games inherently the Japanese then you won’t see me complaining. It just sounds like you are whining because the game isn’t catering to your tastes. It’s fine if you don’t like it but don’t expect everyone to jump unto your bandwagon. The right word is “engaging” which is what DMC definitely should, if it can, DMC3 succeeded more or less at having a pretty good narrative on top of its really fun gameplay and protagonist. Also, you sure took your time to reply to this old ass post I had more or less forgotten and moved on from this discussion. Also, I like how you ignored every argument I provided in the post you are replying to. I can tell discussing with you is pointless. So let’s leave it at us disagreeing on where DMC needs to go.

The DMC franchise's writing ranged from decent to passable but after DMC3 all of Capcom's games had gradually gone down as a whole in terms of quality, and genuinely makes me question the ability of their writers, making me cautious about the RE2 remake too. I still weep for the Silent Hill franchise with The Room being the last SH i enjoyed. My thoughts exactly. It's like they are not taking their storytelling in games serious, and it is a cause for concern but hopefully they come around.

If someone gives out constructive feedback to improve on something and being honest by pointing at flaws is considered as whining? What's with you with the gas lighting, dude? You need to be evaluated. I don’t really know what gaslighting means... But being constructive is fine, but you are not being constructive when all you are bringing to the table is “The story sucks in previous games “ even when others have come up with counter arguments to the contrary, so far you’ve neglected to actually discuss it. All you’ve done is repeat the same statement which makes it out like you are whining. Meet me half way here, dude, instead of resorting to insults. I actually wanna discuss this with you, as I actually agree with you that the plot in these games can be better even if I don’t really care all that much since the strength of these games lies in its fun over-the-top combat and fun characters that compliments this. The issue isn’t rooted in that DMC needs to be less DMC, it just needs to have a more engaging plot, I think we agree on that. At least better than DMC4 and nothing like Donte. I just don’t agree that they are all awful, DMC3 was great and had a good plot, like I’ve said. DMC3 made the series popular, it gave Dante and Vergil some proper fleshed out characterization beyond the stoic non characters they werenin the first game. DMC3 showed that Dante isn’t entirely invulnerable and sometimes he loses. I’d be happy further reiterate why I hold it in high regard if you wanna discuss it.

Despite my disappointment with the story of DMC4, the combat gameplay is one of the best in the series. And Vergil is the best damn combatants in the DMC franchise!

Not impressed. Terrible character designs. Nero has a good looking outfit on but his new robo arm looks boring and uninspired. I don't like the look of his face and hair either. That country woman he's hanging around with looks and sounds all kinds of ridiculous. She's like some kind of caricature of country folk. I wouldn't be surprised if someone found her offensive. If I were working on the game i'd hire a professional artist with a distinctive and visually appealing style to redesign everything. I'd also cut back on the traversal puzzle platforming and focus more on the combat with a large variety of weapons, fighting styles, abilities, enemies, and interactive setpieces. And tons of customization. That's Capcom for ya. Which is weird because the new Resident Evil 2 looks awesome. And that's made by Capcom as well.

Why fans are going to be pissed about that? Don't you know how fandoms work? There are some people who are into Dante x Lady, there are others who are into Dante x Trish. The later will defenitely get salty for being left empty handed. I for one don't care much if this theory is true and Dante ends up with Lady. I just found the idea interesting.

I’d wish they’d stop with the Uncanny photorealisn and focus instead on making the combat as good as it was in DMC4 if not better.

Me personally, I'm a bit worried about the gameplay because it's the same combat gameplay from DMC4. I was expecting new and immersive gameplay. But time will tell at this point.

Me personally, I'm a bit worried about the gameplay because it's the same combat gameplay from DMC4. I was expecting new and immersive gameplay. But time will tell at this point. Combat was at its best in DMC4, yo, the fact that it takes cues from that game is a good thing in my mind. The level of depth to the combos you could pull off is still beyond any other similar action game. People are still making videos on youtube about the amount of crazy combos you can pull off. Ultimately Nero is gonna have combos and moves that feel the same, it’s no different with Dante having distinct abilities (like the stinger) he’s had between DMC1 and 3. Disregarding that, they have changed the camera so it isn’t fixed camera angles anymore, it’s closer to Bayonetta which is an improvement. They’ve also taken sone things from DmC that actually worked which is interesting, if nothing else it is a return to form. And what exactly do you mean by “immersive” anyway?
