The sawtooth edges that DF points out are typically artifacts of checkerboard rendering, not Youtube's video compression. I understand, but my point is that we can't rule out that those artifacts weren't introduced by something else. I don't know exactly how YT does compression, particularly for 4K, but that's the point, nobody does. Plus there's the compression that happened before YT, like during capture. Furthermore, a PC rendering 4K could generate those artifacts also. There's no law against PC's using similar temporal filtering techniques, even if there's a patent or two that needs to be worked around. So the suspicion that the scene wasn't rendered on PC is on shaky ground to begin with. 1) lol, what? "Nobody does" meaning "PapaCharlie doesn't", right? AVC1 and VP9 are both well understood codecs. 2) Moot point, DF analyses source video provided to them by developers/publishers. www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2018-anthem-20min-demo-tech-analysis3) You seem to keep missing the point of their discussion on the rendering process. They see something which *appears to be* checkerboard rendering artifacts. CBR in the Frostbite engine is only enabled with Vulkan and DX12 APIs, which makes its inclusion on PC footage interesting, because while CBR is available standard on PS4 Pro and XBox One X, it relies on APIs not universally found on the PC install base (DX12 is Windows 10 only, for example). CBR might be a possible rendering option in the game on PC, but it would not be available to everyone. They're just saying that it's odd.

"Nobody does" meaning "PapaCharlie doesn't", right? AVC1 and VP9 are both well understood codecs. Well understood codecs with very complex input parameters and targeting profiles. You can’t just say AVC1 and know everything about the output. And that says nothing about any preprocessing or transcoding YT does before you even get to AVC1. Whew, good. That makes much more sense. www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2018-anthem-20min-demo-tech-analysisIf the point DF was trying to make was that Win 10 would be mandatory, you’re right, I missed that. It seemed to me that they were questioning whether the vid came from a PC as claimed or a console.
