Can't really say I have ever really been a huge Anime mega fan but I do enjoy watching a good anime from time to time. That said it has been a while since I have watched a good anime series so I have decided to take some suggestions from the people of this forum regarding good anime series to watch. Now I realize there may be some confusion among you about what a good anime is and what a bad anime is due to the fact that some of you may not share my opinions and are therefore wrong, so to that end I have prepared this handy guide for you to refer to when making your suggestions. So what Anime do you think are worth watching?

That said it has been a while since I have watched a good anime series so I have decided to take some suggestions from the people of this forum regarding good anime series to watch. Now I realize there may be some confusion among you about what a good anime is and what a bad anime is due to the fact that some of you may not share my opinions and are therefore wrong, so to that end I have prepared this handy guide for you to refer to when making your suggestions. So what Anime do you think are worth watching? Well, Bebop and Champloo are classics and yet very different from the usual anime style of storytelling. On a similar scale, I would recommend Berserk (the original series and the movies, not the latest ones which have very funky animation). I haven't finished it but it is fantastic with great art design and was kinda the inspiration behind a lot of design elements in the dark souls games. It is very gory though FYI. My all-time favorite would be Claymore. I would highly recommend that you read the manga for both Berserk and Claymore as they had to rush the anime to an end by season 2 for the latter and Berserk is even better as a manga than the animated versions. Claymore has some fantastic designs for their monsters. From recent anime, I'd say Konosuba and Overlord. The first is a comedy that is a satire of the usual cliches in anime. The second is about a guy who gets transported to a new world. But as an undead skeleton and we get to see things from the perspective of an overpowered villain. Neither of these are masterpieces but they are both highly entertaining and good anime IMHO. I'm kinda curious though. I was thinking of watching Evangelion as I've heard good reviews from friends and it seemed kinda cool from what little I know of it. Why'd you think it's bad?

Yeah but that thread does not have a system for sorting the good anime from the bad, I was hoping this thread could avoid all the bad suggestions that plague that thread.

I haven't finished it but it is fantastic with great art design and was kinda the inspiration behind a lot of design elements in the dark souls games. It is very gory though FYI. Yeah I have always heard good things about Berserk and have always been somewhat curious as to what it is like, however I tried watching the 1997 anime version and I just can't get into it, I am not seeing the animation quality people seem to laud the series for and quite frankly I am finding the characters quite dull and the events uninteresting, I kind of sold on the idea of seeing epic battles with huge monsters and demons and seeing some weird nightmare fuel but so far it seems the anime is focused on the least interesting part of the Manga and as far as I can tell abruptly ends the moment things start getting interesting. I have to wonder am I viewing the right version of the Berserk Anime or is there a better version out there somewhere? I'm kinda curious though. I was thinking of watching Evangelion as I've heard good reviews from friends and it seemed kinda cool from what little I know of it. Why'd you think it's bad? I am sure there are plenty who would disagree with me on this and there are many who consider it among their favorites so take my criticisms with a grain of salt, if it looks like something that you might be interested in watching then you might as well give it a shot and form your own opinion on it, especially if you can find a way to stream it for free or are already paying monthly for a streaming service like crunchyroll. As for why I personally don't like it, it is far too melodramatic, none of the characters are particularly relatable down to being thoroughly unlikable and the plot is such a convoluted mess that even the most hardcore of Evangellion fans would struggle to tell you what the ending actually means. Also I am generally not fond of anything that has hormonal high school kids as the protagonists.

Berserk (1996)
It only covers the first arc of the manga though so you might be left wanting more.

This is already by far the best anime I have ever seen. Can't wait for episode 2. A true masterpiece.

the 1993 original Anime of ALITA was pretty good. I still prefer the books though and if I can't get my hands on the books (because really, I still can't they're all sold out every place I've been to) then I watch the movie, which is so. very. cool.
