Bruce Lavellan:Sylaise - simple version Reason: "It is Sylaise who showed us how to heal with herbs and with magic, and how to ease the passage of infants into this world. " Bruce wants to help people and is a Rift Mage, so it seemed appropriate to give him the Vallaslin of the Hearthkeeper.
Why would an elf's parents name him Bruce?

I picked Elgar'nan for both my Dalish Warden and male Elven Inquisitor, and Sylaise for my fem Solasmancer. I had no idea who they were associated with at the time, just thought they looked cool. Elgar'nan's especially, as the half light and dark design gives a "straddling two worlds" vibe.

Since we were not given any indication regarding the deities associated to each Vallaslin, I chose based on looks alone. Turned out I gave him Mythal's Vallaslin lolol We did get indication for DAI's vallaslin. It was only in DAO that players had to choose blindly. Not really. Matt Rhodes posted the explanation a few weeks after DAI released, so I (and everyone else who played day 1) went in completely blind.

Doesn't matter how many times I read that word I'll always read it as vassilin. All the elves rubbing petroleum jelly all over their faces. So soft.why else do you think they have such good skin?
my Dalish Warden, he had the same one as Mithra and I always associated that one with Mythal (because it somehow looks like a cross between a tree and a dragon) but now I'm not sure anymore if I'm right
I also head canon that each clan has different designs for each of the vallaslins because each artist has their own interpretation (it'd also explain why the designs differ per game) of course that's not a universal truth due to some of the characters having the same designs despite being from different clans, but that's my head canon

Dalish hunters risk their lives for the clan, so I picked Falon'din as a symbol of acceptance of that fact. It means to go into battle without being conquered by fear of death.
The color blue further emphasizes that, as it is a calming color.

Looks and god's equally. I won't use a good looking one if it's a god I'm not fussed about and won't pick a god I like if it looks awful. Ended up with Mythal.

I once made a similar one as well, most of them are the same as yours though I have different comparisons for Dirthamen, Mythal and Ghilan'nain Has there been any official confirmation as to which of the Origin's vallaslin goes with which god? I'm curious too. I just matched them up as best I could (with Sylaise's being a matter of elimination).

I'm curious too. I just matched them up as best I could (with Sylaise's being a matter of elimination). I personally have this one pegged as Ghilan'nain I guess that just shows how different people have different interpretations
as for official information on the ones in DAO, I have no idea like you, I did process of elimination, Sylaise was actually pretty easy to guess for me to be honest the ones I posted before (Dirthamen, Ghilan'nain and Mythal) were the hardest for me
as posted on the wikia I personally have: design 1: June (both master Varathorn(a crafter) and Junar (from the Warden's clan) have this one) design 2: Elger'nan design 3: Falon'din design 4: Andruil design 5: Sylaise (Marethari has this one in DAO, as does Aneirin (the mage you meet during Wynne's quest) design 6: Dirthamen (Zathrian has this one and Marethari also has this one in DA2 (keeper of secrets and all that (Zathrian with the curse, Marethari with her being possessed with Merrill's demon) design 7: Mythal (Velanna and her sister have a variation of this one)
design 8: Ghilan'nain (Elora the halla keeper of Zathrian's clan has this one)

Mainly aesthetics. I like June's, Ghilan'nain's or Dirthamen's. I can work the lore around them enough to not worry as much about the nature of the god. While I like the story of Mythal and Sylaise, the pattern clashes too much, is too busy and messes with the balance of the features. Falon'din's markings have an unfortunate side effect of giving a female Lavellan the look of age lines around the mouth or a really high, really misplaced pencil moustache. Sylaise's is too bulky with that one on one eye. It sort of gives her a lopsided look. Elgar'nan has the most intriguing look, but the thorns...eh. Andruil's bow is too close to the eyebrows so that's always driven me nuts. And Mythal...I get those are branches but the overall effect just doesn't appeal.
I think it's that I don't like patterns that work against the natural features.

Danae has Mythal's vallaslin at least in part because it goes well with her haircut. But when I looked up Mythal and what she stood for; protection, justice, motherhood...well, that fit very well with what she values most. Mihren went for Elgar'nan, god of vengeance and the sun. Vengeance burns bright in her heart, and she hasn't forgotten or forgiven all the wrongs done to her people. Nimuae chose Dirthamen. Secrets and knowledge are her jam, and she lives to uncover them. With the last two, I'd already learned what all the vallaslin represented, so I tailored my choices to suit them. I'm just glad the first one worked out so well without my even trying.

Looks like your first one was Sylaise with the wreath of branches and vines curling like smoke while the second one has Ghilan'nain's halla horn design.

I chose Mythal's at first because it looked the least ugly to me (DAO version was still better). I actually ended up getting the mod that replaced the Vallaslin with the original ones from DAO and gave my Lav the simple June's version because it suited her looks best. I don't care if it makes me "shallow", but I just don't want my character to look like ass in the cutscenes. My Lavellan didn't really care for the Creator worship anyway.

I don't like dalish elves but if I had to choose with a motive it would be the less intrusive one to the face of my character. As this Vallaslin thing is really ugly as hell.

I originally went with the crossed branches of June for both my Warden and Inquisitor, but have since grown to love the Falon'Din design from both games. For Lavellan I employ the idea that he's averagely religious, and chose the Friend of the Dead due to his feelings of inadequacy in the face of his siblings' successes in the Clan. As a forward scout and keeper of the maps for the Clan, he wanted to represent the Creator who while seeming to be scary, is actually a benevolent guide to those who have lost their way, a brother to the outcast and a protector of his people in his own roundabout way.
He is severely unnerved by Solas's revelations of Falon'Din's conduct in the Temple of Mythal, but is adamant in keeping his vallaslin intact, saying: "This is how I've chosen to interpret our legends, damnit. I honor the idea, not the person." Then Trespasser happened...

For my Hunter (Rogue Archer) Lavellan I'm going to go with one of June's because he advocates for technology as opposed to magic and is more of a trapper than a Hunter. He'll go Artificer naturally. He's basically an elf version of that crazy dwarf from Awakening who makes Darkspawn go BOOM while gigglesnorting.
For my Mage Lavellan Necromancer Solasmancer (Had to make at least ONE to see what all the fuss was about, UGH, the drama!) I picked Falon'din. Seemed to fit for a Necromancer.

If anything, they desecrate what Falon'din stands for by playing with the dead.

That seems more in line with the Great Protector and goddess of justice than it does with the god of vengeance. But then, that's just how Viuus Anaxas rationalizes it. Your Quizzy could well view it as posthumous vengeance.

Not knowing what the different markings meant I chose one that wasn't too obtrusive since I dislike the Dalish facial tattoos.
However reading this thread and thanks to the kind posters who put up images of each tattoo labelled with the assosiated god, it turns out Tasha Lavellan has the simple version of Mythal's markings. Not a bad choice given her beliefs and personality.
