And before you start complaining that there is no middle ground in the poll go fuck yourself, it is either hot porridge or cold porridge, no inbetween, if you have to choose between 2 extremes which is it?

xD I love that, one of my other favs is from Epic NPC Man.
On topic: my character will wear whatever I think my character wishes to at any time! (even if it's next to nothing).

That vid is always a gale of truth Like what? That clothing that covers little of the body protects little more than your modesty? I don't think anyone is disputing that fact, shall I prepare a video explaining that water is wet and that the sky is blue for the maximum amount of truth bombage?

it depends on the game to be totally honest, I mean if its a fantasy game with magic then I expect a frigging finger ring to provide full body protection via its enchantment as an impenetrable aura around the character so the outfit doesn't really matter in the same degree (something that doesn't impede movement would obviously be better) in a tech fantasy game I expect some form of accessory that provides something similar in some other genre then I expect some sort of ancient armour system that requires full body coverage in order to provide protection.... and yeah whilst practical armour is always a good objective theres no reason to not have it as form fitting and stylish, so long as the accents dont impede mobility... and yes ive always loved that in fantasy games the higher the armour grade the more "slutty porn elf" the characters look (especially when it goes both ways )

Having a poll with 2 less than ideal options and 1 perfect option does not yield any useful data as everyone would just go for the perfect option. But do you have any examples of these armours you speak of?

Sexy does not mean just showing as much skin as possible, even with normal real life clothing women don't necessarily have to reveal much skin at all to look very sexy.

Hm...I must confess, I myself am endlessly at conflict with myself over this issue. I want outfits that are believable, because I take my RP and my immersion seriously at all times. I am also a giant perv and thus love form fitting, "stylish" armor. I think nanotm is correct, that it depends heavily on the situation, genre and several other factors. The reality is, I don't want characters to look ridiculous, but ridiculous can work several ways. This... Is just as ridiculous, as bikini armor. But no one really talks about this being ridiculous, because all people ever focus on, is females, and how female armors are designed. I used this picture on purpose, because it was a scene deliberately poking at stupidly impractical armor. However, it is worth noting that, for me anyway armor is allowed to be ridiculous, so long as the setting does not take itself so seriously, or is super high fantasy. Again as an example, to me THIS... As well as this... Are both equally ridiculous. However WoW has established itself as a universe that is just wacky in general, and thus back in the The Dark Times when I played WoW, I didn't give a single rip about this, it was just something I accept as WoWs style. However, despite the insanity of these designs, they are setting appropriate for their job descriptions. She is a Scout/Hunter. She needs to be quick, fast and flexible. Would a leather suit that 100% covers her from the neck down be more "practical"? I honestly can't say, it would be more modest, but modesty is not something, in my opinion, that should ever be a priority when it comes to designing these things. Likewise, there is no chance in hell that man should even be able to MOVE in that armor without falling over, never mind be in a melee engagement. But no one cares about this, all people ever see is "He has no skin showing, therefor it is better". This is true to some degree, but only some. That cannot be the basis of your entire argument. In theory, I take issue with impracticable, ridiculous armor. In reality, I find I never really care all that much and more often than not, I find I am totally fine with whatever wacky design devs provide, so long as it does not stray too far from the established aesthetic of the given setting.

Sure do. -snip Nope, guess we must be using different definitions of 'sexy' Pretty sure thats the case. Make a new poll with those images asking if they are sexy or not. Then you'll realize that you have a fringe taste when it comes to sexy and armor. Personally, I find form fitting armor that makes sense sexy. Super clunky medieval armor is not sexy neither is a catsuit with a huge butt and boob window that makes no sense whatsoever.

Nope, guess we must be using different definitions of 'sexy' I think that is already pretty clear... Function and style are linked, both are required. A poll that asks: Functional armor or good looking armor makes for a moot question.

It's impossible for me to pick. I feel that over the last decade companies have managed to blend the two, making more outfits that look attractive whilst seeming to be vaguely useful in combat.
I admit that I like my characters to look good. I remove helmets in cutscenes even tho my guys are supposed to be on a planet with no oxygen, or they could get shot in the head. I sometimes pick impractical hairstyles that would get in their eyes irl too as they look good.
My gripe is when it gets to a ridiculous level. I want form fitting, badass looking clothes that could conceivably protect them (if you don't think about it too much). DAI managed this well, as did ME. There are many armours in Inquisition that look practical yet flattering, and I like Hawke's Champion armour too.
When you get to Morrigan's side boob bikini then I draw the line, I have her wearing a leather jacket in my game as I think her outfit is woefully impractical. I'm more irked by that than I am some ugly suit of armour tbh.

Out of the 2 WoW armours you posted I would say the second is more egregious to me, while I get it isn't particularly realistic I can at least buy the idea that a skilled fighter may not want to burden themselves with heavy armour and would rather wear more revealing clothes for more maneuverability provided the armour in the game does not try to sell itself as having a high armour value or something like that. i.pinimg.com/originals/b2/19/4d/b2194d7aa4a2eff8bf962066848ef357.pngHowever when you start adding unnecessary spikes and rediculous bulky attachments you end up with an armour that neither looks particularly practical to move around in nor particularly attractive, just looks like an overdesigned mess. www.gamasutra.com/db_area/images/blog/243514/monsterhunter.png

While I can accept warriors in more revealing clothing I think I draw the line at dangerous atmospheres with no oxygen or toxic air or stuff like that, in situations like that it is hard to really sell the dangers of the environment if the protagonist is running around with exposed skin, I can buy a skilled and nimble warrior wearing skimpier attire for the sake of mobility, however not sure how you get around selling the dangers of a toxic atmosphere without a full protective suit. When you get to Morrigan's side boob bikini then I draw the line, I have her wearing a leather jacket in my game as I think her outfit is woefully impractical. I'm more irked by that than I am some ugly suit of armour tbh. To be honest I am not seeing the problem, I mean Morrigan is a mage and I don't think her attire is supposed to be seen as something that is supposed to offer a whole lot of protection, it to me just looks like the clothing choice she is most comfortable wearing.
