I'll still watch the new Terminator and Alien films so...
Incidentally, mybudgee, I seem to remember you making an Alien/Predator thread that you then requested be locked. I think the case can be made that discussion of those franchises might still continue. Should we revive it?

This a pretty good poll.
Alien has been on a rocky road, but I enjoyed Prometheus. Only thing is I still have yet to see Covenant so I can't really attest to how things are, and I haven't heard a peep on another entry.
Terminator has been in the shitter since Terminator 3, and the upcoming movie has me worried. But there is the off chance it could turn out semi-decent, but if it does turn out to be bad, the series is pretty much run out for me personally.
I voted Star Wars, though, for obvious reasons. Unlike the other two, my interest in any of it going forward has been effectively nuked. I won't go into further detail because Star Wars and its (un)exaggerated death has been discussed enough for a lifetime.

They pissed and shat all over those franchises, but nothing is screwed more than the Terminator franchise. They're not even trying anymore and post 2010 Arnie sucks balls.

The only one I even like is Star Wars, so if I could split my vote it'd be for Alien and Terminator.

Only one of those franchises was great in the first place and that's Alien thanks to Ridley Scott and Sigourney Weaver.

I'm behind on all three franchises. I haven't seen Solo, I skipped the middle of the Alien series, and I only ever saw Terminator 1 and 2.
I'm a little perplexed at all the gloom-and-doom talk about Star Wars, even if I were to grant for the sake of argument that Solo sucks (like I said, I haven't seen it and can't really express an opinion). Star Wars, to me, is about the big mythic feel and the world-building mixed with a sense of goofy fun, not about air-tight plotting or particularly deep characterization. So the occasional subpar installment, or bits of silliness in the stronger entries (e.g. the Ewoks, Luke's infamously whiny power converter line, etc.), isn't really that big of a deal. Maybe if The Force Awakens, Rogue One, and The Last Jedi were at the same level of quality as The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones I'd be worried, but to me it's almost self-evident that they're not. (Though if someone wants to argue that they are, I'd be interested to hear the rationale.)
Alien and Aliens, I will admit, really did manage to scare and disturb me back when I saw the first them and were probably among the first R-rated movies that my parents ever let me watch. I missed the subsequent entries until Prometheus and Covenant, both of which I give a "meh." I like the concept behind them, but the best part of Prometheus - the female lead's determination to keep searching - was rather abruptly and unsatisfyingly resolved in Covenant, and there weren't any particularly memorable characters in either of them, aside from maybe David himself. Plus, the crew in Covenant made a lot of dumb horror-movie mistakes that made me wonder whether future-Earth actually trains their explorers before sending them off into space.

No exceptions. Was watching season 2 of Iron Fist the other day and was thinking that Alice Eve could pull off a good Sarah Connor ( already kind of looked like her in one scene ) With all due respect for Arnold but now the Terminator feels being dragged on for too long. A new perspective is needed in that setting ( like Salvation ). As for Star Wars, I just.. don't know..

No exceptions. He was a good idea, but a logical skynet would have equipped him with an integrated bomb so the second he comes close enough to a person he identifies as Connor he blows up his power cells, which, as we all know, create a thermonuclear detonation, wiping out the target and most top level resistance. Skynet is kind of senile these days, I could do a way better job than this glorified early 2000's browser game-level program.

(Though if someone wants to argue that they are, I'd be interested to hear the rationale.) There's a bit of misrepresentation here IMO, the most vehement critiques of Disney-Wars are centered on TLJ, not RO, or TFA. Mind you, I don't think RO (barring the fan-service bad-ass Vader scene, which was rather fun) was particularly good, and neither was TFA, but I'd say TLJ was by far the worst entry to the SW franchise, including the prequels. The most ardent (supposedly high-brow) defense of TLJ I have heard, is that it "subverted expectations", and to that I can only respond with this: I was happy enough with TLJ after I saw it. The main reservations I had about it, and which I figured might lead to criticism from fans, were that (1) the plot was basically a slow-speed chase (fair criticism but not enough to ruin the movie for me), and (2) Luke had become a much more flawed and disillusioned character than we were accustomed to seeing. I had mixed feelings about the latter - given my view of Star Wars as being primarily about mythic world-building and goofy fun, I'm not sure that sort of characterization really fits in the SW universe. However, I'm waiting to see if the payoff - in terms of what Rey learns from him, and how his intervention in the standoff with the First Order impacts what happens next - is worthwhile in Episode 9 before I say definitively that I think it was a good or bad idea. I do think it helped to explain Kylo Ren's backstory and make him more effective as a tragic villain, for whatever that's worth.

Terminator isn't a great franchise. It was a great couple of movies followed by a whole lot of shitty ones.
Alien is similar. It was a great couple of movies, followed by a whole lot of meh.
I guess Star Wars wins by default? Only one that was a great franchise?

Mr Plinkett's review at least provides bonus entertainment value besides the criticism itself, so it might be easier to digest, but even that is an hour-long video. Plinkett's Star Wars reviews are unequivocally better than the movies themselves. Every single one of them. Change my mind.

Terminator is still alive??!! Well, alive, kind of, lets say the Terminator franchise is a very ugly decaying undead and its greedy necromancer masters don't let it go back into its grave for its final and well deserved rest. If you want a real cringe fest watch genesys.

Terminator is still alive??!! Lets just say it would look like Arnold near the end of his screen time in the original movie: The next title could very well put it down for good, which is either mercy or a tragedy, take your pick.

Toss in the the Predator franchise too. Such a simple concept that Hollywood can't get right after the first film.

I guess Star Wars wins by default? Only one that was a great franchise? While not on the list, I feel the same about the Highlander franchise. First movie was best, series were ok. The anime film Highlander : The Search for Vengeance was better than Highlander movies 2 - 5 combined.

Toss in the the Predator franchise too. Such a simple concept that Hollywood can't get right after the first film. I beg to differ personally. I thought P2 was an interesting idea that expanded the Predator lore a bit and that Predators was way better than it had any right to be with Brody knocking it out the park with a satisfying conclusive fight. This new one is trash though. I tried to give it a chance cause Thomas Jane, Keegan M. Key, Alfie Allen and a few others were in it but those trailers and how its being billed as some sort of action comedy.. fuck that shit. The original was fueled by the toughest and manliest motherfuckers at the time (Jesse The Body and Arnold Alone would have sold it) and now fast forward the only guy who has that aura about him is Jane. As for Star Whores, that shit's dead beyond dead. I loved its lore and the mythology surrounding the force and the sith but TLJ killed the whole series and my fandom for it. Let it burn. Ho-1 was trash aside from the Vader scenes, TFA had promise but I never quite got into Finn as much and it became completely invalidated with TLJ which was the thing to kill it off. That's the movie that told me "this isn't for you" so I kept it moving. Soylo didn't exist for me at all, and a 30 second clip of OG Maul still doesn't pique my interest. I was holding out hope for Ewan McGregor returning as Obi-Wan till they disrespected Billy Dee with Pando. Count me out..
