Yeah I remember that being mentioned in AJ's review, some rooms are character specifics. The knife being tied to framerate is a weird bug, I have the game locked at 60 fps on PC. I'm surprised how well optimized it is. I only ever used the knife for counters (broke one actually, I have a second knife now). Can you actually kill by slashing? got the impression that it was useless for that. I didn't think to try on first runs, but just tried after being surprised by a licker on second run, and it was surprising effective. He got me once first, but once I started hacking away it was all over. I'm not entirely sure, but I don't think it even lost durability. Also thanks to everyone who suggested the classic music DLC. I didn't know that was a thing until after first two runs, so was slightly disappointed not to hear the iconic main lobby music. My fault for not paying attention to gaming news, I guess. I was just trying to avoid any spoilers, damn it. I have to get this off my chest somewhere, there was one part where I gave myself a whole lot of grief, thinking I was being smart in saving ammo: Thought I could safely dodge round the zombies in the library at first. Then when it came to moving the bookcases with Mr X hunting me down, I had to go in, shoot a zombie or two, then run away and hide from the mofo, about 5 God damn times until I had enough peace to actually do this simple puzzle. Arghhhh!
Also, I though number of saves on standard would affect the rating, so was probably overly conservative about hitting the typewriter. That's OK though, as it was pretty much the original game experience.

That's OK though, as it was pretty much the original game experience. Something of the sort happened to me. I left one there because I could easily dodge him, but after big BOI started chasing me I had to dispatch him to get some room and move the shelves. I think the last difficulty level doesn't allow you to save unless you have ink? and there are no autosaves either (those sucks anyways, but without even manual saves... yikes) I don't really like those ironman difficulty levels... so probably wont play on the hardest ever.

I know this thread is for the remake, a game I will get when the price lowers, but I was looking at getting RE6, since its on sale. Is it worth getting?

I'm not entirely sure, but I don't think it even lost durability. Using a knife defensively uses a set amount of durability for each counter, set by the difficulty. On Standard it seems that knives can reliably counter 3 times. Using it to slash also uses durability, but very differently. I'm guessing based on observation, but I believe that the number of slashes required to increase a zombie's damage level is random, much as it is with the number of bullets, and this seems to impact how much durability is lost. I've slashed a few times to kill a zombie and seen significant durability loss, whereas other times I'll knock a zombie down with a gun, and have to slash it 20 times to kill it, but the durability loss seems to be lower if I 'softened it up" with other weapons first. There is definitely durability loss for slashing, but at a much slower scale than with counter attacks. I know this thread is for the remake, a game I will get when the price lowers, but I was looking at getting RE6, since its on sale. Is it worth getting? It's hard to say. I would definitely recommend Revelations 2 before I'd recommend 6, because I think it has a better story and gameplay. RE 6 is a passable game. You could get it for cheap, and it would probably be worth it even if you only played through it once. From a story/character point of view, the only really interesting thing it does is bring back Sherry Birkin from RE 2 as an adult. I guess it can be kind of fun to see how the three playthroughs interact, although that only happens a few times.

Not a bad game. I've been watching a bit of RE6 gameplay on youtube. Doesn't look too bad. Currently the game is on sale at best buy.

Okay... so many boss fights... I think I could use some advise: So I'm about to fight William (G fase like, 3 I guess? it's the third time I gotta face this asshole) Dr. bitchy tossed my in the hole with him, and the motherfucker is bigger than Goliath, what the living fucks I'm I suppose to do here? like how do you kill him/it? I've seen heaps of pistol ammo on a table (nice one RE2, shitty pistol ammo of all ammo). I pretty much left it at that point yesterday, as I've said, too many boss fights... I was tired, and almost lost my shit in the second encounter, the one you gotta try to smash him with the container into the abyss. So when I finally got to this point, I was like fuck this shit I'm out.

I was tired, and almost lost my shit in the second encounter, the one you gotta try to smash him with the container into the abyss. So when I finally got to this point, I was like fuck this shit I'm out. It depends which character you're using. And it definitely helps if you save a few specific things for the encounter. For Claire: Stock up on a few healing items. Bring along a couple of stacks of ammo for the submachine gun, and a stack of acid ammo for the grenade launcher. Use acid ammo to stun Birkin, then switch to the SMG and open up on the eyes. Only damaging the eyes has any effect on his health bar, everything else just stuns him or he ignores it. The first phase is to destroy his three eyes. When he's stunned by this, and his chest opens, use a knife if you're on PC and go to town. If you're on console, empty as many SMG clips into his chest as you can before he recovers. In phase 2, repeat the process until his chest opens permanently, then concentrate fire there. Edit: I happen to have a Claire link (but not a Leon one.) For Leon: Stock up on a few healing items. Bring along a couple of stacks of Shotgun ammo. If you need stun capacity, you can use Flash Grenades - the only ammo that will do it is the magnum ammo, and I don't recommend wasting it on Birkin during Phase 3 (it will one-shot the eyes, but the "damage overrun" is wasted so I'd save the magnum for G4 encounter.) Aim carefully with the shotgun, consistently it seems that two shots can take out an eye if they're aimed accurately. Since this stuns Birkin, you can often use Leon to move him to Phase 2 very quickly. Once the chest is exposed, the strategy becomes the same as with Claire. In both cases, you might have to wait for Birkin to move to grab an object in order to be able to shoot the eye on his back. The SMG can still take it out with accurate bursts, and the shotgun can definitely take it out before he turns around. But accuracy is important. If you're on normal, don't waste "full healing" items unless you're actually in "Danger." The first time you're in danger, use a three-mix herb, which will reduce damage for the remainder of the boss fight. Thereafter, a couple of first aid sprays or green herbs can do the trick if you're in trouble.

Are you playing on Standard or Hardcore mode, Claire or Leon, and what's your loadout, like say ammo count, healing items and sub weapons?

Playing as Leon on normal difficulty. Don't have a lot in the way of healing, I only have stupid amounts of blue and red herbs, it's funny because I haven't really used that many healing items in the past, mostly just used them for boss fights. As for weapons, all of them. Have like x60 9mm bullets (I presume this caliber is very much worthless here), but not a lot for the magnum or the shotgun, however I think I have 2 large yellow gunpowder yars and heaps of blue yars (I could mix one and one for getting a few shotgun shells, but I'll loose the ability to create magnum bullets that way). As for the flamer I think I have like 200 fuel or something (half a "mag"). No flashbangs, though. And I seem to remember I have either nothing or one frag nade left.

To add to the above Birkin 9/10 starts out the fight with a roar. Use that moment to pop the eyeball like cyst on his left leg, takes one magnum round, which should be to your right. Immediately run to his back and pop the other cyst there, but if he recovers too quickly or you missed the shot gain some distance. It sounds crazy but when he closes in on you, run towards his torso, and he'll overshoot you exposing his back. That method becomes risky after poping the cysts on his right shoulder, left leg, and back twice because he'll start spinning to win.

How many shotty shells, and magnum rounds do you have before gun powder mixing, and do you have a knife or two? To save ammo while still dealing damage after destroying the three cysts, knife the cluster of cysts on Birkin's chest when exposed. Remember if you don't like the condition of your ammo stockpile just reload an earlier save and redo the lab but with less grenades, shotgun shells, and magnum round usage. With knowledge the lab should take 15-20 minutes to complete.

Shotgun should only be used in a emergency or to blow zombies heads. Anything else will require too many shots and for you to be way to close to the enemy.
Fully upgraded Matilda is a great weapon to use during this fight if you don't have more magnum ammo.
Red+Blue gives you damage protection so it is usefull to use one when the fight start if you are low on healing.
There is flashbang, grenades and magmum ammo around the room.
Start the fight by shoting the eyeball in G3 leg with your magnum, that will allow you to pass him. Then destroy the other eyes on his arm and the one on his back. That will open up his chest revealing more eyes for you to hit. Repeat this until he start releasing smoke from his body and his skin turn darker, now just focus on his chest to put him down.
During the fight remember to hide (or shot his eyeball on the back) when he grabs something to throw at you.

S ranked Claire A run and it was far easier than I feared it would be. Made it with over an hour to spare and that was with me not at all being efficient. Might S rank one of Leons routes but think I rather get a proper hardcore run done.

Thanks guys, will remember that when I go back to play. Not keen on redoing the whole labs again, so I'll make due with what I have, fuck it, I have enough 9mm ammo, I'll use that if I have to. Might have used too many shotty shells, it's just the easiest to kill zombies in close quarters and I've been caught way too many times in CQ in the labs unfortunately, I do try to use the 9mm whenever I can, but lately it wasn't possible. I'm also proud to have done all puzzles so far without any help or peeking at guides. As for the time being, ball sacks, won't be able to play anything for at least a week . Since my monitor died and I'm now using the TV as a temporary solution until the new one arrives, I have to have it connected to an old graphics card. The Tv only has VGA, and my 1070 only has DVI-something and HDMI (can't be bothered wasting money on an HDMI cable), thus I had to install my old 660ti so I can connect the VGA cable to that card, unfortunately that sets the 660 as the main graphics card because the monitor/tv is using its port instead of the 1070s. That translates on me being in potato mode right now, can't play jackshit. And RE2 remake is far too pretty (?) to crank down the graphic settings, not after seeing how it looks on high/ultra.

Has anyone had any luck with the Ghost Survivors DLC?
I’ve replayed the Runaway dozens of times, and can now just about get to the jail OK about 30% of the time with a respectable amount of ammo (occasionally even full health) before being overrun. Even getting that far required working out exactly how to handle each encounter almost to the bullet. Although it’s possible I’m still doing something wrong (maybe I need to collect a grenade earlier on to use at the end or something?)
And this is supposed to be easiest one? God damn. It’s like games in the 80s.

I acknowledge that it must be possible to complete them on normal, but I'll never be able to do it, and I don't enjoy trying.

It's hard to say. I would definitely recommend Revelations 2 before I'd recommend 6, because I think it has a better story and gameplay. I just finished playing Revelations 2 the other day. Not a bad game. I've been watching a bit of RE6 gameplay on youtube. Doesn't look too bad. Currently the game is on sale at best buy. I really didn't enjoy RE6 at all. With RE5 I could say I enjoyed the game and it would have been a lot better if not a RE game. RE6 was just something that felt like it was designed by committee and fell flat in a lot of places for me and gets a position on the list of games I started but never finished.

Kendo mode is actually easier to me because Shotgun is great at killing zombies, even the purple ones.

I finally beat Claire;s scenario A.....it was a great run. I can say that i still feel that there probably needs to be a bit more tweaking in terms of balance, but then towards the end of the game i generally had enough ammo to deal with enemies, but health items was still an issue,...but i guess that is how they wanted the game to be.
I can't help but feel that this game felt a bit smaller in scope in terms of the original?...idk....i like the newly added areas and how they changed things around, but overall scope felt smaller to me...i loved the journey tho....i think overall this version is superior to the original, but it felt like the original had more cutscenes with Leon than this version.
I still have to play Leon B...and i plan to start that soon....going forward tho i'm all in for this style of play....no elbow drops, spinning back kicks, suplexes etc.......for RE3..i understand Jill had a dodge that she could do and if they implement that for the RE3 Remake (you know it's coming) i would like for it to be organic in nature...maybe a dodge in the manner of shoving a zombie out of the way and avoiding be captured in it's grip, but no stylistic combat roles or anything referencing action combat....this game made the zombies a true threat and this is how they should be going forward....they are the un-dead and should be able to take loads of punishment.
I loved the visuals as well...again standard vanilla ps4 for me and i was impressed with the visuals...especially the rain effects when outside...the tight dark hallways and over the camera placement keeps the suspense high throughout the entire game...CAPCOM finally listened to the fans after lying to us previously saying that they are listening which ended up with us getting RE5 and 6.....yeah some folks like 7 (not me...1st person)...but i'm a fan of this concept for RE3 and possibly RE8 going forward..

Close to completing Leon B Hardcore run. Been easier than expected so far, shows that practice really makes perfect with way less dumb decisions being made which helps with the decreased amount of resources.
Also did all the Ghost Survivors, wouldn't say any posed serious issue with only runaway needing more than 5 tries because I kept fucking up with the swarm of dogs coming at you. The 4th and final one is really not that hard and work great as practice on how to handle multiple zombies efficiently

I know this thread is for the remake, a game I will get when the price lowers, but I was looking at getting RE6, since its on sale. Is it worth getting? From my experiences, no. It relies a lot on quick time events (I could tolerate these in RE4 but they just become tiresome in RE6), checkpoints only work half the time (If you die, they work, but if you get off and get back on they don't work), a lot of "run away or die sequences" some of which would be fine if the camera wasn't so god damn awful, it's primarily third person, but there are times where it wrestles control away from the player trying to go for a more "cinematic" angle or even try to evoke classic RE games. It also sucks as a character drama since characters do really contradictory stuff for the sake of MELODRAMAAAAA.EDIT: The one good thing I can say about it is that the ally AI is actually decent. (If you do decide to buy it, avoid the lone wolf perk, it prevents your AI side kick from reviving you if you're down)

I'd be really interested in a RE3 Remake. Do you think they should expand on exploring raccoon city?

I finally beat Claire;s scenario A.....it was a great run. I'd like to see them expand on it a bit...The old resident evil "Outbreak games did a decent job of having you explore Raccoon City while still keeping the suspense high. I don't want open world tho. Keep the city streets cluttered with abandoned vehicles that creates a tight narrow path for you to follow. I think in the original RE3 Jill was exploring Raccoon City for a bit before she came into another area (i haven't played that game in years)...but i would like to see them change things up for RE3 as well. I think its coming...i've seen vids that RE2 have had more sales numbers than the current lifetime sales of RE7...i think the game cleared 3 million in it's first week....like i mentioned erlier in this thread..RE3 will be easy for them to since they already have their own engine to craft the game from saving them money on middleware from the jump....Jil is a fan favorite as well so i think RE3 Remake would be another big hit for them...i personally liked RE2 more than 3, but i would still get 3 if they remade it...i thought the RE-make for 2 was great...solid visuals and you had to strategically cripple zombies to get by them....you can't run and gun in this one....( i killed Lickers every chance they got in my way tho....tried avoiding them, but ended up losing a TON of health or dying so that a$$ got waxed quick!... )
