So, hi everyone! As you can tell I’m new here and well, I’ve been a fan of the series (specially dragon age origins) fo a loong time but for many different reasons (mostly lack of money, ehm, ehm) I’ve never played dai. BUT NOW IT’S THE TIME, FOLKS! And I have mainly two questions: 1.Will it run smoothly? Or should i just play it in my ps3 instead (Iknow, I know… just bought it a month ago lmao)
- These are the specs of my laptop, btw: Intel Core i5-4210u 1.7GHz with Turbo Boost up to 2.7 NVIDIA 840M 2GB 8 GB
2- What should I expect from this game? I know I Will like it, as the previous ones (dragon age II, let me a Little bit down, tbh but I enjoyed it anyways). I heard a lot of things about dai, some good stuff and some real bad stuff. People had mixed feelings and well, I just wanna know what to expect.
BONUS QUESTION: Should I buy any DLC? Are they worth it?
Thanks in advance! I am proud to say that I’m finally part of this fanbase!

With those specs you should be OK s DAI is not that demanding a game specs wise but if you enjoyed Origins then you likely will enjoy DAI as it is probably closer to DAO than DA2 in terms of the kind of things you'll be doing. As like with Origins you're dealing with a worldwide threat. The main difference between DAI and the earlier games is that DAI is a bit more action focused in terms of the combat so that might take some time to get used to. For me personally it's my favourite of the 3 games and deserved it's game of the year status that it got but everyone has their own opinion. As with the DLC's I have all of them and yes they're thoroughly enjoyable. I would advise though if you play them play them with a higher levelled character at least close to or higher than level 20 as the combat is harder than in the normal game levels

I wouldn't recommend playing on PS3, though I don't know if the game will run on your laptop. I highly recommend buying the GOTY edition, since it's 30 bucks for the full game and all the DLC. Consider buying it when it's on sale.

The game will run on that laptop, but smoothly? Errr...my guess is you would probably pull 40+ FPS at 720p if you don't go wild and stick around medium settings. For 1080p you will be looking at Low or Very Low settings and about 30 FPS. But as I said, just my guesswork. And it will depend in what area you are. You might think you are fine because you reach 30 FPS at High settings in Haven, but then you go to Redcliffe and everything tanks to 5-10 FPS at best.
And the game claims it needs 8GB RAM as recommended, but trust me, it runs much better if you have more than that. Expect some long loading screens.

My memory might be a bit fuzzy, but if you want to play all the DLC, stay away from PS3 or any other archeotech hardware (like XBox360). Not all DLC was published for those platforms, the later ones are only available on current generation consoles and PC.
If you liked the DAI vanilla game, give the additional story DLC a shot! Some people argue that the final one, Trespasser, contains the actual ending, while others feel that it messed up their protagonist's story.
Avoid the armor DLC, I forgot what its name was, but the quality is sub par.

All the lovely mods enticed me, but not it was the fact that I couldn't play the Inquisition DLC on the PS3 (and the realization that I probably wouldn't be able to play any future titles in the series) that got me to re-buy the series for the PC (was actually fairly cheap, even with all the DLCs). Haven't regretted it

Nevermind the DLCS. DAI looks horrible in the PS3.

Thanks for you reply!

Thanks you all for your replies! They were very helpful. I will then try the PC version, and I will as well give the DLC a try

As far as DLC is concerned, if you could only get one: get Trespasser. Even if you don't like elven history, it is a good story-based DLC with strong ties to the Inquisition and the fate of your companions.
The other two DLC: Jaws of Hakkon: Is the most exploratory of the DLCs, with an entirely new zone filled with side quests. But the main story itself is primarily interested in avaar culture and the Old Inquisition. Decent: Is really a massive dungeon crawler with an emphasis on ancient dwarven history. Not the best imo, but some people prefer that type of playstyle.
