Thanks for your feedback! Have you played the Atlantis DLC yet? I have just started so can't really comment yet on it. But having gone through ME3's ending I am not sure anything this DLC throws at me will phase me too much but admittedly for me that was like a WTF moment and then I moved on and could still appreciate the thousand plus hours of enjoyment ME3 gave me. I think Ubi have done a really great job for only their second attempt at an RPG with choices, I think they can only get better and I am sure they have learnt from the aforementioned issue. I am a huge MET/MEA/DA fan and whilst they haven't managed the depth of relationship's those games have evolved to and the complexity of choice they contain they are certainly on the right path. Exactly. Odyssey is by far and away the best non BioWare RPG on the market for me right now and while its obviously *not* a BioWare RPG it still is close enough to almost scratch the itch of 'I need a new BioWare RPG' until they finally release DA 4. That and the next AC game should hopefully be making the wait somewhat easier because at least I am playing something in the ballpark...but then it makes it more harder for that reason too.

As an overall reaction; the clue was in the name of the game. Odyssey - it's about the journey, not necessarily its ending. I liked the ending, the Cult being - almost a side-note to Kassandra regaining her family and finally having roots to put down. But the journey or the odyssey she went on to reach that end was the games strength, for me. Yes, there was plenty of repetitive busy work. But it was - for the most part - fun repetition. And logical. The game is gorgeous, and that helps, but it never loses sight of the fact that a game needs to be fun to be "good", and this one was. On sitting down for dinner with Kassandra's family I felt a sense of satisfaction. I wasn't blown away, just...content. Almost everything to that point had been a tense and/or exciting and very well put together. I was left with - on a smaller scale - the same sense of my character finally pausing to exhale that I had in the final scene of the Witcher 3:Blood and Wine, when Geralt turns to the camera and smiles.
I will start the final Atlantis chapter tonight, probably but once that is done, I'll be putting this down for a while. I don't regret the time I spent in Kassandra's shoes, but there is a whole lot of game here. I think I need some time before running into it again, despite the fact that I now have a good handle on how it all works so won't have to go through the learning curve of the early game again. It's not Dragon Age. It's not the Witcher. But it was very good. If Ubisoft stick with this style, then fine - I'll probably check out the next Assassin's Creed (this was my first Creed game and only my fourth Ubisoft game - the others being the Prince of Persia trilogy). If they delve further into the RPG aspects, then I'll follow with increasing interest. 7/10 - will play again - just need a palette cleanser. It always fascinates me the way even individuals rating scales can vary quite greatly. Granted I usually rank/ categorise my entertainment into 'tiers' that way I am not driving myself mad deciding 'is this game an 8...or an 8.2.' and I find my opinion on how good a game's grade is, that precisely, can vary greatly depending on mood...hence the tiers. But even then I wouldn't consider a '7/10' a game that I would be especially eager to replay. That is almost down there with those games that I wouldn't really ever play again. The closer to 7/6 the less likely the closer to 8 and above the more likely. Ratings!!!!! Games involve so many aspects these days re story, choice, environment, combat etc its getting really hard to rate them. How do you honestly compare DAI with TW3 or ACOD? Anyway for what its worth I'd rate ACOD 8.5, I'd rate TW3 a 9 when I played it but now ehhh maybe an 8 to 8.5 and DAI I would have rated it a 9 as well but now probably only a 7.5 to an 8 based mainly on its multiple player characters and story (leveraging off two previous games full of DLC). It's environments, combat and protag animations etc (same as TW3 are not as good as ACOD (IMO) nor its environments but DAI feels like a "richer" game. These are just my feelings ATM I reserve the right to change my mind in five minutes!!!!!

Well, in that case my opinion for the DLC in general is very simple (I'll make a more detailed post later, once some others beat the DLC): Seriously, the two DLC have ruined not just the game for me, but the entire series for the foreseeable future. Wow. That bad, huh? Without spoiling it, could you say what it is they ruined about the series? Yep. That bad. Well, my main issue with the first DLC was touched upon by dazk . It goes far beyond that, but since this needs to be spoiler-free I won't give the specific examples. However that one at least can be kind of ignored (I treat it as nothing but bad fanfiction and part of the 20% rate the Animus for ACO is wrong), whereas my grievance with the second DLC can't be as easily wiped away. With that DLC, all I can say without getting into spoilers is the main character of the modern day does quite a few things that made me go from liking her to despising her. And since she is clearly being set up to be the protagonist for a while, that ruins the series for me since I have no connection at all towards the person I'm supposed to be rooting for.

Tier 2: Andromeda, ACOD, Witcher 3, DA 2, Mass Effect 3, Mass Effect, Tier 3: DAO, Horizon Zero Dawn, Fallout 4 Tier 4: Skyrim, Kingdoms of Amalur. Of especially particular note is Witcher 3. Its a game that was well put together and had a lot of things working for it...but if I were ranking it purely for RPG elements it would be faaarrr down like around Tier 4. Great game, horrible RPG. Similar note to Odyssey but at least with Odyssey I felt like I had way more control of Kass/ Alexios then I did with Geralt/ Alloy.

I suppose it comes down to how you classify the tiers, I am not a literary or gaming expert so for me a lot of it at the time of playing purely comes down to enjoyment. Looking back and/or going back and playing games obviously gives a whole new perspective on them, well for me at least. DAO for example is one of my all time favourite games, in fact going back even further Baldurs Gate is possibly my favourite all time game because at that time it was amazing and fun to play. DAO is in the same category, when it came out I thought it was amazing, epic even BUT I have recently tried to play both those games again and I just didn't have the patience to deal with the clunky controls and now obsolete combat mechanics and in comparison to todays games the dreadful graphics. I enjoyed the Crysis games (which the last two were trashed by the media and the first was a bugged nightmare) because combat wise it was fun (Shooting, driving tanks and even flying a plane) and it had a good story premise. But that's why I played them pretty much for the combat and it had a decent enough story to make the combat situations relevant and fun and to invest you enough. Same with The Division 1, story was light but enough to invest you in and the combat was great. However if I compare it to MET, well I engage in MET for different reasons. I could put up with the shitty inventory, gun augmentation and clunky combat in ME1 because I was playing it more for the story than the combat. ME3 came the closest of any shooter games I have played to getting the balance right between the story and the actual gameplay/combat in a shooter game. And for that reason MEA was OK as well because the story wasn't bad and the combat was fun. So I suppose in short that's why I have trouble rating games unless its current release v current release, even TW3 v ACOD the time difference has given ACOD advantages TW3 didn't have technology wise and it wasn't released that long ago.

I've PMd myself a warning for starting an off-topic conversation In case there was any confusion - I really liked Odyssey a lot. But 8.5/10 is how I would classify Inquisition. DAO would be 9/10. 10/10 requires a perfect game and - to date - I've not encountered such a thing. I despise the internet's propensity to decry anything not "the best thing ever" as being automatically "terrible and a crime against humanity". Likewise the "0/10" mentality irritates me because at that point you have to assume the game actually doesn't start, which is clearly not the case and often that score is the result of butthurt over some nonsense or another. For me, if it's 5/10 or above, I don't regret it and/or enjoyed my time with it. 5-7.9/10 is "like". 8-9.9/10 is "love". 10/10 is perfect and thus far, unattainable.

Wow. That bad, huh? Without spoiling it, could you say what it is they ruined about the series? With apologies to Hanako Ikezawa OdanUrr I completely disagree with Hanako's opinion, my advice would be to get some feedback from the net to get a sense of it. I am sure Hanako can give their feedback without spoiling the plot though. My opinion for the record is that you are forced into a situation in The Legacy of The First Blade DLC but for me it didn't concern me in the slightest but for others it broke a promise the Dev's had made re choice and in particular about playing the protagonist as a non-heterosexual person. My opinion is purely my personal opinion and as I said it didn't concern me because I was happy to play the game they way the dev's forced the plot, I can see how others may have been annoyed/upset about it but in terms of breaking a promise or misrepresenting a developer promise, for me it was nothing compared to some other instances in other games such as the Witcher and MET. I'm with dazk here. While I thought the "issue" with the Legacy of the First Blade DLC was a case of very poor writing, it wasn't even close to causing me to dislike the game. I will say, though, that with only the final chapter of Atlantis to go, the main game - for me - is better than the two DLCs.

So my list of games that score in those aspects can be a bit long and goes as far back to titles like Star Wars Dark Forces, Blade Runner, The Longest Journey, Star Trek Final Unity, etc. ACOD belongs to this list

Ok - I've started Judgements. I had planned to breeze through this one...until I saw the place. Damn. It's easily the best looking of the three chapters and one of the better looking parts of the whole game. Two minor gripes thus far; one story related, one gameplay. 1. If Kassandra is supposed to be second in authority only to Poseidon, why does she have to sneak around in these archives? 2. Is anyone else finding navigation just a bit tricky? This place is INSANELY vertical. So far, though, looking good. Layla's a dick.

Hmm... I see how that could be a problem. I was not convinced by the modern-day storyline in Odyssey, it felt incredibly rushed and disjointed from Origins. Layla went from distrusting or being unsure of the assassins' motives to being their staunchest supporter and pulling off some serious stunts with zero build-up in between. Some people have argued the story from Origins is continued in comics, what would explain who all these people are in Odyssey, but I've always felt that's lazy storytelling. I'm not entirely sure how they could destroy Layla's character any further. As for Kassandra's storyline with the Isu, what did you make of it? I've always been interested in the First Civ, but perhaps that has to do with how they were mostly shrouded in mystery. Does the story deliver to your mind? I take it that the "gods" are still alive and kicking during Kassandra's time? Or is she somehow displaced to an earlier time so she can interact with the Isu?

Once you want to know spoilers, I can let you know how they could. Regarding the EB storyline, it was fine I guess. It had high points and low points for sure. As for your other questions, the EB meets them through simulations that Alethia created. So basically kind of like how Layla uses the Animus to have a simulation of the EB's life, the EB is kind of doing the same thing.

So lets see if I can get through this this time with putting the spoiler tags up properly. First of all let me just say Atlantis is reallllly hard to navigate. Like I am so used to just being able to climb up everywhere and just make a straight line for things but Atlantis is a friggin maze of evil. Forcing me to take detours and actually use steps and seemingly go out of my way and go round about...just like real life. *shivers* the horror. But on the bright side...maybe...the encounters and the forts seem harder this time around. Though the first time was my stupid fault given that I was trying to climb up to it and then had the bright idea of only scouting it out with Ikaros *after* climbing to the top...which was out of bounds...and there was a guard up there. But in my other two encounters I played ring around the posey with one and hung out on a rope bridge sniping down below on another. It is curious in the end one of the driving factos of who I consider 'canon' between Alexios/ Kass could easily come down to gameplay. Don't get me wrong I still love the Archery in this game but Alexios is built to give me some really bad habits and makes things too slow. I miss the crit damage and I miss the extra Assassin Damage to make people dissapear. But then it is fun sniping and using ghost arrows but I also don't have as much adrenaline build up as I usually do either with Kass so it means using it less which means takes longer to clear out bases in general. Also seems riskier. So yeah: Only thing of note for me is that I did the quest 'in Dreams'. It is worth noting that that one trailer effectively did spoil the quest and what was going on so there wasn't much surprise. It was still a bit of an interesting moral conundrum this time and well Alexios had her jump...not entirely sure that is in his establiished character but on the other hand what would any of us do if we were controlled by an outside force? I mean hell its the same conversation with the mages and Templars in Inquisition.
Either way the Isu have a lot to answer for and reading through their codex entries really does paint an interesting picture of just how bad and...interesting...the whole thing is, but Poseidon genuinely seems to want to keep the peace. Maybe that's how he knew Alethia?

So finally managed to sink my teeth into Atlantis Part 1 yesterday, I am a bit on the fence at the moment in terms of my feelings towards it. Yes it's pretty abut I am not loving the verticality element, specially the Isu elevators, I am more than happy to climb the damn things but am now paranoid because ireead somewhere that if you do that for a particular mission or missions it doesn't work? I love the Isu and how they have depicted them in scale, their looks etc. but there is just something about some of the VA work that's a bit off-putting for some reason. The missions are pretty much the same as much of the "Real World" just with different layouts and guards in different armour but I am liking the emphasis on knocking people out rather than me using my normal slaughter everything approach. Anyway early days, have just met Hekate and done he quest for her, cleared her area and went back and cleared the rest of the first area, Not sure if should have but it was annoying me leaving things undone. Found two of the upgrades, are the upgrades given to you in a certain order or are they site specific? The only one I want (BC o Ares) is the one I haven't got yet but there are obviously two more to get. I killed some Elyssium Deer or whatever they are, assuming there are no consequence for that and they are just resource material!!! Pic's with SPOILERs

Not sure if there is anythign worth spoiling today.
Just doing more random exploration of Atlantis...actually I want to find the first of the Keeper Insights before continuing on with the story which is seeming...to be hard at this point in time...for some reason. I think I found one earlier but that was when the lions mauled me. Only thing is I got into one hell of a fight with one of the Polemarchs up on one of the bases. Tried assassinating a guy, he didn't guy, turned around, heard a Kolossi activate behind me (let me tell you that is one of the biggest oh shit moments you can have in this game) and soon like 2/3rds of the base was on top of me. I actually did fight my way out of it. I got two pieces of the Diekestes set and...while it would be a good set for a warrior...it just has little utlity beyond that. So that's a no go for me. I think on the flip side I am kind of getting more used to being Alexios again as it feels more natural again. Still miss Kass's crit and Assassin damage which would help.
On the other note I was going through my list of Hunter mastery abilities and there is a lot of good stuff in there that might tip the scales back to Alexios from a gameplay perspective. He certainly is 'fun' to play when he does it right. But mainly an Adrenaline on headshot kill I think it was does look pretty tempting. That and I was looking at the new rain of arrows ability again on a hunch and it does indeed stun people when it hits so...I am thinking os respeccing...and *gasp* speccing out of ghost arrows. almost a shame you are limited to only four hunter abilities.

I did The Mausoleum of the Kingless Queen yesterday OMG. It took me 45 minutes trying to stealth the damn thing and knock all the guards out but I swear the game just decided it wasn't happening. Got "seen" by a guard from a level below through two walls, yet the guard 5 metres from me didn't see me and then a Kolossi activated for no reason and suddenly it was Kass versus 10. Killed The Kolossi and a couple of guards then ran away and hid till they all had a cup of tea and settled down. Again had a few moments where where guards saw me when they couldn't have so decided it was time for a Rush Assassination festival!!!

By themselves they aren't that bad...especially if you ambush them...but mother of God throw in some infantry and a captain or polemarch and they can get real annoying, real fast.

The Kolossi don't phase me too much as Heroic Strike takes them down in one hit. Was funny yesterday at that fort I climbed straight to the top to kill The Overseer "Atalanta" and Kass killed her with one hit with RA and then said: "Wow she fought like a beast"

So yesterday in Atlantis Pt. 1 roamed around destroying statues of Persephone, finding the Stele for the ability upgrades and clearing a couple of large forts. I am definitely over the damn verticality thing especially when they make it a puzzle between three locations and Kass continuously decides to dive off things and has to reclimb them, alright its probably my fault not Kass's. Seriously though I have never had a problem getting on to one of the zip-line things but for some reason the one on the top of the fort Kass just could not get on it three times in a row, it was like the controls had become all loose which is something I have experienced in AC games previously. Anyway. then got to The Mausoleum of The Kingless Queen and whata fun time that was. I am pretty certain I have the stay hidden and knock people methodology down pat and whilst I may make a mistake occasionally, I have become very patient in executing this in this DLC. However yesterday the game definitely decided it didn't like me being so slow and thorough and definitely had some guards use their Xray vision and Walkie Talkies to break my silent perfection up!!!!! That being said it was a slow but enjoyable process if just atad too long for one objective. Climbed this statue twice and was determined to stand on the grassy bit at the top but it appears the dev's didn't code that as twice I got stuck and the game desynched. Who the hell is this dog "ROS"? The guard silhouetted bottom right saw me twice, I can only just see myself!!!! Time to burst into song, "Climb every mountain" Scenery

dazk, I guess you still haven't spoken with Persephone? It's okay to go see her. She's also a quest giver. Ros is her dog.

dazk , I guess you still haven't spoken with Persephone? It's okay to go see her. She's also a quest giver. Ros is her dog. I am doing the quests I have in the journal "Sudden and New" Hekates quest and then the one to weaken the zones ("Give them Hades") and was then going to do "A Dark Horse" where you go see Persephone as I thought I needed to do the others before seeing her. Is that right? I am also completing the quest to find the ability upgrades as I go to each zone.

We were advised to do so by someone, I think. Hermes, maybe? I messed up my PT by being super completionist beforehand, as is my wont. Then, I ended up having to traipse across Elysium again and again, as I received quests in cleared areas. I need to get back into this game enough to wrap up the story. I dropped it about 15 minute into Hades. I'd just had enough of Kassandra and the core gameplay loop. Maybe I'll give it a go this weekend, time allowing.
