colfoley, much of Aristophanes' play in-game reflects the historical reality. I wouldn't even be surprised if the orange ape reference is actually in his play. I wouldn't assume it's a reference to our present orange ape or his shrill screamers. I had a cool real life encounter with Odyssey, today. My sister texted me some beautiful pics of Greece, where she is attending a wedding. I recognized a certain plateau joined to the mainland via a causeway. I asked if she was due east of ancient Sparta, on the eastern coast of the peloponnese. She was. That Spartan fortress grew into a castle in later centuries. It's called Monemvasia Castle. It has a hotel and hosts weddings, amongst other things. She's also going to visit Athens, Delphi and Krete before returning home. Pretty cool. Also, my sister got to take a kick ass trip. Edit: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Waspsen.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_KnightsA link to the wiki of the plays "The Knights", from the game, and The Wasps, a later anti-Kleon comedy. I don't have time to read it, at the moment. Aristophanes was pretty outrageous.

So yesterday finally finished the Elysium DLC, wow what a let down. I really don't like doing a lot of busy work just to get an ending that was always going to be the outcome anyway and that any choices I made seemed to be redundant. Anyway spoilers for others who read this and haven't finished. I felt sorry for Hermes, gave him the recipes, let him help me fight and we became friends and then convinced him to come help me talk Persephone down which he did only to be tossed aside by someone he'd only ever tried to help. Hekate, even though everything I did throughout the game pointed out Hekate was a two faced B^tch still saw her SEEM to come out on Persephone's good side. And then besides doing everything possible to help Persephone but being forced to help Adonis you get cast into Hades whilst being scorned and have to kill Ros!!!! So jumped straight into Hades and other than having to kill poor Ros (who actually gave me some grief as my abilities on three occasions did zero damage ), I had more fun in the firs ten minutes than I did in all of Elysium!!!!! Some of Kass's internal monologue was hysterical and I liked both Hades and The Ferryman characters right off the bat. Met up with slimy old Elpenor and did the quest to the Treasury of Kronos I think it was to get the gauntlets and got cooked in lava a couple of times. Pic's Yes Hekate you are a bitch, poor Hermes Yes you are both bitches Only too happy to leave!!!! Oh god not you two again!!!! Seriously did anyone ever review these VA's before they got the job. Yay have been sent to Hell, so far Elysium seemed more like hell than Hades. Time to play with the puppy!!!! How was my day??? Well....

I will say this for them...despite any railroading I still appreciate that they stuck to their guns and actually let the Isu use their full powers against us there to banish us. Even if Kass did pretty much get what we wanted.

Well that was annoying as feck. Helping out Thespis got really complicated/ annoying in a real hurry. So those four thugs bothering him I paid them to leave...and then they jumped me outside his home. It turned into a giant mini conquest battle through the streets of Athens with Civillians, Mercenaries, and other guards getting in on the act. I spent most of my time running and dodging for them, just thwacking them long enough to regenerate my health before getting away. I finally got away and hid in a bush and was hiding...and hiding...and hiding...then this random Athenian saunters over to me, and spots me...so I I decided to slaughter them all. Also slaughtered everyone at the little area where Rhexenor was holed up...and a lot more mercs. Up the next...that one battle in Makedonia.

Yeah, I had a bit of a chuckle when I read it!!!! I'll keep this a bit off topic for little longer, how is the Honor Harrington series? I've thought about reading it, but have gotten into reading other stuff. I'm about to finish up The Witcher series. After seeing all the pics (I've tried to avoid the text) y'all have posted is making me want to get into Odyssey again, work on doing the DLCs and whatnot. I haven't played since March, I think.

Well not totally off topic, one of the kittens was called Kassandra and the others are Greek hero's/Gods. I am up to book 6 or 7 (of 14) and enjoying it so far, Honor is a very good character and the story's are pretty engaging, especially if you like space battles/politics.

Maybe not my favorite book series and the elite of the elite of philsophical depth but it is fairly consistent good quality reading that every once in a while gets REALLY good.

dazk colfoleyAlright, thanks for the recommendation. I may try to pick up the first few books when I finish up the Witcher. I'll probably be in the mood for reading a little bit of space/science fiction after 7 or 8 books of swords/ magic/ mystical creatures.

SGT NOOBSTER Are you aware of this thread? bsn.boards.net/thread/24/reading?page=51&scrollTo=1289339I'd also recommend The Expanse Books over the Honor Harrington books TBH. the HH books are a bit "lighter entertainment", The Expanse is more hard core. Better stop the off topic now!!!!

Okay so yesterday played more Hades yesterday and still enjoying it, except for the damn rifts. Can't quite get the hang of them yet but have enjoyed using the new Madness of Ares ability to get myself out of trouble!!!! I really like Hades VA, going to have a look and see who it is. So spoilers and a question re getting to a chest if anyone can help. Yesterday killed the poisoner from the main game and the Cultist guy who I assume is the one Deimos kills instead of Kassandra to get some of the veil armour. Then stumbled upon some Sepulcher of The Forgotten I think it was called and could not for the life of me find my way to the third chest. Then randomly stumbled on Brasidas's quest which I enjoyed that took me back there to do a puzzle and retrieve his shield but that still that I could see couldn't get me back to the chest. Then just roamed around unlocking a few Synchronization points.
Pic's Helping Brasidas Not sure I like being part of a bet between Poseidon and Hades How the hell do I find that damn third chest

So spoilers and a question re getting to a chest if anyone can help. I can't remember that one specifically, but a few of the Underworld locations require the ability to pass through Tartaros rifts. Have you taken down all of the fallen and picked up the Ugliest Armour Ever?

So veryyyy close to getting done with the ending.
It was so much nicer this time around having nice Brasidas who liked me and gave Kass a fist bump hug thing rather then mean nasty distant Brasidas. But he died just as easy this time as last...on his own friggin spear too. So yeah...I am pretty much done....
Though I realized I hadn't taken on either of the two live service monsters yet so I made sure to get them. Sterrops was fun as I was dodging all over the place and launching explosive arrows at him. And Argees went out like a bitch...I fury of the the bloodlined him with him like with 3/4s health...and he died. I was surprised as hell.

So more torment of Hades yesterday but unfortunately time was limited. Found all of the Armour of The Veil and none of those guys really put up any sort of a fight, then decided it was time to start gathering the legends to guard the gates and started with Herakles. Took down most of the Tarterus Fort by stealth then descended into the Pit of Gia or some such thing that had an entrance in the middle of the fort, man that was longer than I guessed it would be. Fund the easy exit but backtracked preying I hadn't lost my progress and fortunately didn't. Killed and looted everything else with only one guard catching sight of me then felled poor Herakles in one RA and one Heroic Strike. So funny as all of The Armour people all died with one hit and like Herakles I had to listen to their speeches while they lay there dead!!!! Can someone let me now if I should prioritise the Orange Icon missions like the one you discover Brasidas's quest under over the guys to guard the gates and other stuff or does it not matter? Pic's Dead People Talking seemed to be the theme of the day!!! DragonKingReborn May be the ugliest armour in the world AND the silliest looking armour in the world but it does fit the scenery, #BleaklyUgly!!!! Yeah well this place looks homely and inviting. Herakles off to take up his new Security Guard job.

I continue inching evveerrr cloooosssseerrr to the ending. This time I finally tracked down Hippokrates (thank you Google) and bull rushed all four of his quests.
Nothing too much of note happened...oh yeah actually it WAS funny that I, of course, was trying to limit casualties...but I accidentally head shotted someone with a normal arrow when I thought I was shooting at him with a paralyzing one. "Headshot? Oops." And of course the Captain. The second interesting thing is Hippokrates was saying 'OK Ihave to go meet my next patient'...checked the map and I figured I would give him the time he needed, so there was this merc that was just hanging out in Beotoia the entire time, in the same spot, that I was playing, all through me doing Hippokrates's quests and even fast traveling there in the first place...well I tagged him...and then he decided to take off...tracked him down all the way in QAttika for crying out loud.
The rest of it was pretty standard. It is quite a moral conundrum that his last little patient brings up about honoring a patient's wishes...or trying to save them.

So I have officially started the ending.
First off dealing with the Sphinx and her riddles. A. What I did not appreciate was not having the riddle reread to me, usually takes me twice to get it. B. What I did appreciate...well I died. Quite brutally. Bit annoying that I'm sure Alexios got it all... but maaaayyyybbbe I looked up the answers. And then I was delighted to find out... the riddles change! That was a very pleasant surprise, though I did look it up because I missed the first part of the final riddle.
While I was out and about doing that the thought suddenly occured to me "I forgot to do Eppie's quests'...which I decided I am going to skip because despite the circumstances and ancient civilizations those quessts were a bit...underwhelming.
Off to finally confront the Ghost of Kosmos (on the off chance there are still those who don't know who she is). And two things:
One this time it was actually a LOT more of an enjoyable ending. Honestly last time the Kosmos ending I thought was the weakest of the three because it was a bit of a let down for me, now I think I know why. Because, it was confusing as hell...some people on these boards advocated that I do not go to meet Daddy till the very end of the game so when Pythagoras showed up it was all like 'Pythagoras...da hell ya doing here...my child...huh...that's interesting.' But now that I have played the whole game, met him before going off to the finale with Kosmos, played through the DLCs and done everything else everything now flows alot better and without confusion I was actually able to pay attention, which led to several interesting conclusions. First, there was that whole thing about 'chaos' and 'order'...and how neither of them are good in the extreme and a 'balance' needs to be struck. This is fairly basic stuff as I pointed out but it still strikes me as philsophically important given how...out of balance our real life affairs are right now. What is more important and interesting is that Pythagoras did confirm/ go off of one of my points how the cult of Kosmos represented 'chaos'...I think he called them children of chaos or something. It does fit when you think about it...but perhaps even more interesting still is that Pyhagoras essentially warned that defeating them and defeating the forces of chaos would tip the scales way in the other direction and would lead to extreme order for thousands of years...an obvious reference to the Templar Order. Also he mentioned the staff and a few other things about how I would do that balance and fix things...Layla...the rift in time? But yeah, much more interesting now that I know more of what the hell is going on.
Which of course brings me to the Ghost herself. Now Alexios let her live...Kass did not. But again there is a lot to unpack in her words. First off she mentioned a philosopher king which is kind of an interesting description for...someone. (Washington? Jefferson? etc? Locke?) But perhaps the most important thing is this game actually makes the distinction between 'republic' and 'democracy'...and that...the Ghost (every elpsis I swear I'm about to say her name) really does not like Democracy and wants to spread the ideals of Republicanism to the Greek World. What's interesting is despite her foresight she should know it's far too early for these ideas to take root and she still misses the point... thinking that she can be the philosopher king and drag everyone to enlightenment...not how that works. Also of course the clever reference to red and blue...I approve.
And I did manage to pull it off. I saved Alexios after all. Despite killing off the other two members of the family... and I still got emotional. As I noted before it could come down to which of the two characters I prefer as Deimos who makes the best canon. Though it is worth noting that I actually liked the ending with the three of them rather then the others. "Tough crowd".
Off to Atlantis.

So I have officially started the ending. Off to finally confront the Ghost of Kosmos (on the off chance there are still those who don't know who she is). And two things: Which of course brings me to the Ghost herself. Now Alexios let her live...Kass did not. But again there is a lot to unpack in her words. The first time I listened to The Ghost I let her live because her ideal and motivations seemed right so Kass let her live, the second time though when I paid more attention to the words she really seemed to be espousing a dictatorship so I killed her. Does that align with your thoughts colfoley ?

Does that align with your thoughts colfoley ? pretty much exactly. A benign dictatorship potentially but still a dictatorship, one that puts too much emphasis on philosopher kings/ queens and not enough on the idea of law being a protection against when such people become 'unbalanced'. TBH I was kind of onto her from the beginning just A. my earlier confusion probably didn't help and she certainly talked a good game and B. Alexios is kind of a philosophical noob. His most coherent thought is probably 'ugh, me kill cultist'...plus Kass really hates them.

So been working through Hades the last two days and enjoyed it a lot except for a couple of missions yesterday for Charon which were too much traveling all over the map multiple times for little result and I know I have said it before but I am so over the escort quests!!!! Anyway on the whole though Hades has been great and I hope to finish it off today as I think I am moving on to the last quest. So recruited Perseus and Agamemnon for guard duty, did the Phoibe quest which was enjoyable simply because it was Phoibe and I got to kill lots of the guys I didn't like in the main game again. Helped Elpenor again and seems he may have misjudged Hades appraisal of him!!!! Pic's Gate Keepers Hades and Elpenor Why do I still get the feeling I am being played???
