GamesRadar's Golden Joystick for 2018 is under way, which means we're heading into GOTY time... Golden Joystick: www.gamesradar.com/The GOTY website has its 2018 rankings open (if empty): gotypicks.blogspot.com/I've always found the Golden Joystick to be a little too early in the year, as it misses out on end of year releases, but it's a nice appetizer. I'm not sure if I've played my 2018 GOTY yet... What about you?

My best game that i played for now for 2018 is this one but i have to wait for Red Dead Redemption II and i also have not finished Assassins Creed Odyssey yet. And my worse game of 2018 is Far Cry 5.

AC Odyssey is my vote. Don't own a console, so RDR2 is not an option. SoTR is pretty, but got overshadowed by ACOd really fast.

It's been a weak year for gaming to me, the only game I've even liked is Assassins Creed odyessy and I gave them beat it yet. I've no interest in another R* game and shooters like battlefield or CoD will never be a consideration for game of the year regardless of how fun they can be, they're to simple for me to give that title to them.
State of decay 2 was fun, but it's really just an upgrade to the first with not a lot of newer additions.
I'll probably be back to mention why I'll go with Odyssey but I'll do that once I beat it. That said Odyssey hasn't had much for competition either 👍 again, pretty weak year for gaming to me.

GoW should sweep every category it's entered into.
Fortnite should sweep every online or multiplayer category it's entered into (even though it was released in 2017). Fun fact, in the STILL PLAYING category of Golden Joystick, they have listed every online MP game EXCEPT Fortnite, lol. They realized no other game on that list would stand a chance against Fortnite.
I'm wondering if, because 2017 was such a standout year (HZD, P5, BotW, NA, Cuphead, Hellblade, etc., etc.), 2018 might be a bit of a letdown across the board?

I just realized I spent most of this year working through my Steam list of games that were released the year before (or more)... - AC: Origins, MH: World, The Witness, FF XV, yet-another-Skyrim-playthrough , etc. I don't own a PS4, and I can't think of any games (I've played) released this year that I'd consider "GotY". AC: Odyssey is still on my to-do list, but I probably won't get to that until mid-Nov. And there's still a few upcoming Indie games on my list like Call of Cthulhu. This year it looks like it'll boil down to either God of War or RDR2.

My personal favourite of the year is Unavowed. First time I've added a new adventure game to my Top 5 in more than fifteen years. I expect it to sweep the Aggie Awards but it's probably not going to win anything else ...

I can't remember a single game in the past two years that I'd grant it anything resembling a game of the year. Then again I haven't played that many "new games" recently, so I don't know. For the past 1.5 years my entire hope has been resting on Metro Exodus, in the gaming world I mean. In the past ten years I used to look forward to at least two games every year, thats now totally gone.

I'm not sure if the gaming industry has changed so much or I have - maybe we're simply getting picky because of age since all them young casual rascals seem to be just fine with the recent games? For me there are less and less games I look forward to or interest me every year, I find games get more shallow and less immersive, storytelling declines, atmosphere dwindles, its just less and less of the good stuff. Only online multiplayer is totally thriving, a feature I'm not really interested in, sadly. A few games have totally surprised me though, like Senuas Sacrifice, it was very original that was quality how I like it. Also Metro is absolutely excellent, though its not very ''recent'' anymore. But Exodus looks very good already.

For a moment I forgot about it, jesus. Finally a game I could consider to be worthy of an award since Witcher 3 I guess? I'd look forward to CP 2077 if not because it doesn't have a release date.

Nothing has catch my eye this year (yet, looking to you BFV), ergo, i haven't played any game released in 2018.
Now, 2019 will be one hell of a year for gaming (on my perspective).

A few games have totally surprised me though, like Senuas Sacrifice, it was very original that was quality how I like it. Also Metro is absolutely excellent, though its not very ''recent'' anymore. But Exodus looks very good already. With this generation of games there are less games being made. A while back someone made a video claiming that video games aren't more expensive to make and used EA financial reports to justify his position for yes EA is spending the same now as they did years ago to make games. The problem with that claim is simple, they are only making a third of the games they have in the past. So there are less risks being made because they cannot afford to have a game that doesn't sell three million or so to make back the investment costs of development so there are less games that are interesting and more games that seem to have the same features as all the others. Until there is something that proves they don't have to have all this fidelity in the games which is where the majority of the budgets go (at least in my opinion), I see future years being a lot like this one. Right now the only thing aside from that gives me some hope are first party games because they aren't designed to be huge blockbusters, but hardware sellers so they have lower expectations on sales, which is why a lot of people are talking about God of War and Spider-Man being GOTY contenders due to they don't need to sell three to four million copies to justify their existence they need to generate interest in the PS4.

But Exodus looks very good already. Perhaps it's us, I wondered that too. But I also feel that the rise of open world style games did a lot to dampen my enthusiasm as I prefer shorter linear narratives, and no I'll never play games like Overwatch or Fortnite. There are also less chances being taken, so we now have to look at smaller companies to deliver interesting IPs. Trouble is there games are often smaller in scope, and I am fond of an old fashioned AAA game. Literally the only game on the horizon for me is the new DA, hence my attempts at broadening my tastes and trying new things.

My top three so far are: - Assassin's Creed Odyssey
- God Of War
- Spiderman
I'd kind of hoped Shadow of the Tomb Raider would have been better (though it was good) and there is still Red Dead Redemption 2 and Fallout 76 to launch.
