I sure hope that I never dreamed the future, because the one recurring nightmare from my youth that really managed to dig its claws into me until today was about me driving a car across a bridge, losing control of it, breaking through the railing and crashing into the valley below. Once in a while when I am driving towards a bridge, I get a chill down my spine and the feeling that THIS IS IT, and I nervously watch for the slightest sign that the car might not be entirely under my control. My childhood was wracked with nightmares until one night, I killed them in a dream. Very poetic. Most of those nightmares had been about a wolfman-like creature coming after me, but after a while of not dreaming about it at all, it finally appeared one last time. In that particular dream, I hacked it up with a long blade, and I never had nightmares again, at least none I remember in any way. Ever since then, my dreams have been peaceful or exciting or in violation of proboards TOS, but they've never been nightmares. When I was a little pre-schooler, far before I could put any such thoughts into words, I wondered about human perception and whether different individuals perceive the same thing differently. I remember taking a walk through the forest with my family, and someone made a remark about the lovely deep blue sky above. I looked up fascinated, wondering whether everyone was actually seeing the same color up there. Maybe someone else would see a color that I would call "green", but it was "blue" to them because that is what they had known all their life? After all, I could only know what I saw. I never found the answer.

I never found the answer. I wondered about that colour question, too. But I was on a boat trip with the school class back then. Today I think it's at least similar what we see, for I don't believe aesthetic choices for colour compositions are entirely cultural.
Anyway, what does it really matter what the other people see? They are just figments of my imagination anyway...

I associate a lot of people I know by smell. What I mean is, if I think of somebody the smell of that person, or the smell that I sensed when I met them last time immediately pops into my head and I smell it, long before I think of other memorable traits of that person. There are quite a few people I like somewhat tainted by the fact that they smelt bad or weird, or they were in a memorable situation with a specific smell in the air, and they're stuck like that in my memory. Its really unfair, but that is how my brain works, probably because my extremely developed sense of smell which is far better than any other of my senses.
Weirdly, my brain also pairs physical inanimate objects with music in a similar way.

I hate to say it but I'm the same way. I have a sensitive nose and when ppl smell bad I just can't deal with it, and I'm amazed they haven't noticed or that no one has ever said anything. I'll make any excuse to get away. A couple of women I know are like that, one always has bad breath but they're in relationships.....maybe their husbands don't notice? She rarely drinks so I think that's why. Anyway my aversion to bad smelling perfumes and people is something weird about me I guess.

We have an idiom that translates roughly to "they can't stand smelling each other" when people don't get along. "We" is the Dshörmanns - not the cats. Cat stuff is classified.

I can sometimes make myself laugh by repeating some random, mundane word (e.g. "dog") over and over in my head. Though I'm probably partly laughing at the fact that I'm laughing.

I've got, since I was 12 or so, I can't quite remember, a rather disturbing dream that repeats itself throughout the years. Not daily, maybe like once of twice a year. I'm in a brand new all white apartment besides the sea, with my siblings. Then a huge bloodlike tidal wave comes towards us. Windows break, we start to scream and I wake up.

Lately I've been getting this reoccurring dream where I have an extra class that I had completely forgotten about and have missed several weeks worth of classes and assignments of. It relates to my RL persistence on being punctual and prior to that, i had a more general reoccurring dream of just being late.

Oddly, I have seen dreams I've had played out in movies. Not real-life. I'll be watching a movie and BAM! It's like some writer/director had the same dream I did when I was a kid or a teenager. Personally, I'd rather see some of those dreams played out on tv or in movies, some of that stuff can be too weird or scary to happen in RL.

I've had the tidal wave dream and read that water symbolises your emotions. So I had one with a flooded world and I had to swim everywhere , perhaps trudging through my emotions on a daily basis, but I took the tidal wave one to mean being overwhelmed by something emotional. Now, that has happened and will happened to us all, so it could be just regular old life hitting you and not an actual horrendous event.

I still remember the dream I had when I was 6 during the night hurricane andrew hit south FL back in '92. It was based on some cartoon i used to watch back then (that I can't remember what it even was or was about) but it involved my being catapulted back and forth across a lake in the woods in a setting reminiscent of the Appalachians.

I often dream of floods, that it never stops raining and water is already covering the windows of the top story. I gather my stuff and flee to the roof only to see water all to the horizon safe a few hills covered with survivors. The water is always murky muddy rain water. I think it means my brain is overloaded with negative crap and uses this as metaphor to tell me I should change some things.

I was tactfully ignoring that bit. Maybe it's a premonition of a trip you'll take to a vineyard, where a wine barrel will topple over and you'll be engulfed in merlot. You and your siblings will have no option other than to drink it up lest it go to waste.
