Since we have people at every stage, I was wondering where you all (variously) find the sweet spot for enjoyment of DAIMP lies...
Is it at the *just 56 more promotions and I can one shot the creator* point (yes I'm especially looking at Smurf and Frank) or *I love the challenge of being a no promotes level 1 keeper* or somewhere in between?
For myself, I think I'm in it - much of the good equipment and (just about) enough promotes to not be dead man walking. I think this stage begins around 20 ish promotes, although more for the equipment than the effect of promotions

Two tiers of enjoyment!
1.To have a decent (but not guaranteed) chance to win a mission with a similarly powered team, requiring strategy and mutual support.
2.To have the power to help a lesser promoted/geared team to victory, but not kill everything myself
Not enjoyable:
1. Any combination of character and level that leads to one-hit insta-death
2. An overpowered team on a level that is too easy where you can basically melt everything without any strategy whatsoever

I stopped promoting once nightmare started to become easy. Heartbreaker was a still a challenge and was fun at times. My initial idea was to promote to 170/170/200. I ended up stopping at 134/160/180. Once I stopped promoting, I started to enjoy the game more not having to worry about grinding away at levels. I sure hope they do away with the promote to infinite power mechanic in the next one. I can't imagine the discussions about game balance they had to have internally once people started to become ridiculously over-promoted.

That level of promotions with high level gear will allow you to do most everything you want in this game outside of soloing HB

Not with any agent, but it is doable with tankier ones. The funny thing is that even with 700 constitution and 1400 willpower you can die while soloing HB...

I’ve been happy about being able to finally start on threatening at lvl 1 with most characters, some of the ones that only start out with single target spells (Looking at you Zither ) can be a bit rough depending on the mobs. Currently sitting at 45/60/40 and it feels like trying to promote warriors or rouges goes too slow because I can’t do enough dmg or live long enough to be able to be a contributing part of the game in perilous. So I’m stuck with trying to promote mages in the hopes that my warriors do enough dmg to kill things for HoK and not end up dead on the floor.

Love the freedom I have with every agent available at level 20 whenever I want to do some goofy gameplay experiments on NM or play HB with friends. Playing at level 20 is so much more fun than only having 2 active skills and almost no passives at level 1. Looking at MEAMP they did have learned to cap player stats and removed the clumsy mechanism that forced you to go back to level 1 for stats progression. As many problems as MEAMP has, at least these are some welcoming changes from DAIMP and I hope they can be carried into the next dragon age game.

Hmm, my sweet spot... I feel like I kinda found it, (I can go to Perilous with any Lvl 1 agent) but I think I'm gonna keep promoting my agents, till everyone is at 250 missions and then I'll leave them at Lvl 20. <-- current stats

A little trick for survivability against melee attacks(if you're not already using it). Bear Mauls the Wolves is actually quite a powerful passive. You can stand in a corner with your back to the mob and take almost no damage, and just use AOE abilities when they cool down. Of course, ranged can still target you but hopefully your teammates can take them down.

The promotion grind is just pointless power creep. I get that people are in to that but a game should never stand based on this. Threatening is ok difficulty for me. Perilous is already bullshit level when a tiny spider coming after you through 2 rooms just because can kill you in 1 hit from behind.

It isn’t a pointless power creep, it’s working towards being better in a controlled manner. Just like the loot score system. Not being able to show up on your first day and buying $200 worth of platinum and face rolling heartbreaker means long term investments of time and effort, like all good video games. If you don’t enjoy a grind, this game probably isn’t the best fit for you. Or maybe play in spurts. This is my fall/winter game when I don’t need to mow my lawn every other day because of rain. It’s not often these days a game comes around that can keep you busy with content or a grind that takes time to accomplish.

Due to having really bad internet, I was unable to play MP until just over a month ago. However, I did play SP a lot. I played on NM with trials on, knew the game inside and out and figured I did everything I could possibly do with the game. When I started MP, I thought my SP experience would make starting out on Routine not nearly as difficult as it proved to be. I like the challenge and pushing myself. In SP, I almost never played warriors, especially 2H ones. Yet in MP I find myself doing that, and doing that a lot. I've also learned other ways to do things that I'd like to try out in SP, as I always tended to go with the same builds for my mages and rogues. Right now, it's a renewed feeling of having to work towards something and feeling good when I accomplish it. I realize the MP system is not everybody's thing. I was frustrated in the beginning because I didn't know anybody to play with and wasn't yet comfortable with trying a PUG, but I soon got over that. I have a long way to go but I really don't mind. I'm enjoying the journey so far.

I was quite comfortable with the power build in DAI. I certainly found it better than the weapon-dump that Mass Effect Andromeda got which rather put me off. The biggest issue in DAI was keeping an eye out for the Troll-Weapons.
