Hmm, it looks like the game is led by BioWare Austin with the way it handles. Very rigid animations sometimes and the way they use effects also has a static nature to it. I was expecting slick blur and distortion effects, not trails of gloopy textures.
It looks like it could be fun though. I'm just still holding out for it to hopefully be worth something for its narrative as well.

Not really. I think the downgrade comes from the fact that all builds prior to getting the console ports made were on super-pcs that BioWare built. I remember Mike Laidlaw stating that to begin developing Inquisition they poured resources into buying some of the most expensive rigs they could find to crank up the graphical capabilities to where they thought next-gen would be. But Andromeda had a very similar graphical downgrade of lighting and effects fidelity between early snippets and final code (not the 2014 leak just the brief E3 footage with storms on Eos and stuff) which I can only believe was from running in special builds. Those builds were prettier because it was built for an all-powerful pc and without all systems playing together. When Anthem reached Alpha that was when all of its campaign content alongside night and day cycles, combat, online component, plot triggers, you name it worked together without any gaps or debug code necessary to jump between them - only with the possibility of game-breaking bugs that need to be fixed until it's Beta - this is also the same code that has to run on the consoles, so I think in part the downgrade is from all systems working together where some of the game performance can no longer do what it could in isolated builds that would test, say an individual mission, or just Fort Tarsis or their superscripted Vertical slice. Another part of it is, as is usually the case, that by porting to PS4 and XB1 and making the code possible at all on those with their limitations it has to be built for it and the flipside of that is that pc also gets a downgrade from how it looked in prototype builds because it has the exact same code like the consoles at the end of the day. The only difference is that like Inquisition and Andromeda I expect PS4 and XB1, even One X builds will run with Frostbite settings at medium/high. High texture quality, medium or high shadows, low shaders, not highest lighting and other stuff. The result is that surfaces and especially characters with skin look a bit more like clay on PS4 whereas if you put it on Ultra on a pc there's more shades to it, as was the case of Inquistion and Andromeda on PS4 vs pc. A lot more surfaces had a plastic feel to it on consoles whereas it would look like the real thing on a pc. It's simply because a PS4 can't keep up when it comes to Frostbite Ultra settings.

Anyone who doesn't think Anthem will be downgraded for OG xbox an p4 is delusional to begin with as both are rubbish systems with tge p4 just slightly better, X an pro on the other hand although not running as good as a high end pc i expect minimum changes.
Go look at HZD for pro an most recently RDR2 for X running a consistent 4k

Same video....with commentary.....with cutouts from the players...no offense Hrungry.... Meh....if i'm being completely honest....i'm not feeling the "wow" factor from this...animations look a bit weird. And while i'm not a graphics nut, there seems to be some sort of downgrade being done here. I will wait and see what is shown from the story mode and if that if half way decent, i may keep it on my radar. But i'm assuming this thing will be polished up some more and prettied up before release.....everything looks a bit washed out now and again the animations look a bit jittery/squirly.... I will admit i was never a fan of this when i found out it was going to be a Destiny type of game...i was hoping this to be a solid single player campaign to reel players back in from that Andromeda mess, but i'm still interested to see what this will transform into within the coming months....

And while i'm not a graphics nut, there seems to be some sort of downgrade being done here. The graphic settings are on low, here is a comparison of the same scene (top is stream, below is on Ultra). The stream quality is pretty crap too and there was a bunch of animation bugs (Storm's cap, Colussus Ultimate ability jerking, etc). The Storm's cap is already fix in the current build.

Hm. I have been following Anthem with some interest, but this livestream was not kind to any remaining hype levels I might have had at that point. I'm sure that most of the graphical issues can be explained by a combination of alpha stage/godawful stream quality/old build/low settings/forgot the dual RTX2080 PC in Edmonton, and choosing to play the mission at night didn't help either, because the lighting made everything look drab.
But my main problem with this livestream was that at no point it made me feel "wow, I want to play that!" The mission they played through could just as well have been a MEA side mission, with longer lasting jetpacks and three other players to help. It wasn't particularly exciting. And before they got there, they wasted some time by going after a bunch of grabbits. If there's a single moment that sums up the effect that video had on me, it's the colossus firing its shoulder mortar at a bunch of grabbits... and missing.
In fact, the initial focus on grabbits - a bunch of tiny critters that scurry about and apparently don't do much more than that - was almost unreal. Oh look, there's random vermin out there, aren't you excited?! It felt like they were stalling for time before they had to play the rather mediocre story mission.
And they call the Interceptor the "space ninja". Since Anthem is set on one planet and does not feature space travel of any kind (as far as we know at the moment), that is a somewhat odd moniker - unless it's an obvious reference to another popular co-op game.

I'm still looking forward to the game but that live stream was simply terrible. Beyond/beyond the/the echo/echo...it was rather non-informative and a completely haphazard presentation. I cannot imagine it did anything to persuade traditional solo players on the fence about the fun of group play. If I were upper management or part of the marketing team I'd be more than a little annoyed over that. They need to be showing the full potential to the prospective player-base.

So far my feelings toward this game have been neutral to tentatively positive. Unfortunately the stream put me squarely back in the "meh" category.

There was one cool moment in the stream, when the Storm runs through a big branch on the ground: it breaks and some pieces fly off. You know what that means, that means that outside going off chasing grabbits* players will also take the time to destroy everything they can instead of following the mission/doing their objectives. Personal experience on Minecraft servers. *The start of the stream is a lot more representative of post-launch gameplay than some people think.

I understand that graphics degrades happen between the initial trailers/footage and launch, particularly for consoles, but yeesh - hopefully they'll be able to do better than this for launch.
Combat looks really slow and clunky. The other shoot-and-loot games bring much better combat than this. Anthem better have something up its sleeve other than the novelty of lol flying.
