I'm not keen on the twin idea either I have to confess. For one thing, it means I would have to actually finish the first game. (I sort of drifted off after the half way mark - I think it was about half way).

This is me being optimistic, goodness knows I hate MEA and hope there is not a MEA2. But if we do, why does it have to be Ryder? Everyones knows he's boring and a push over. MEA2 with Ryder is not a great place to go after what happened to the series. Andromeda is pretty big (same as the MW). There are better stories to be told in Andromeda. Like a raider gang story. If it has been decided that in fact Shepard will not return, then I don't want an epic tell of Ryder. I want a small intimate story, sort of like what ME2 did. No more open world, no more Ryder, no more Sam period. Those were weak points in Andromeda, why highlight them in MEA2? While I suspect you are right about most people’s opinion of Ryder. I think at the end he/she found a spine and had places to go story wise. I’d also prefer a smaller more intimate story though.

ME2's main narrative was not a small intimate story; it's main story was simply padded with an assortment of them.
Other than the name and I guess some sort of principle on the matter, what's the difference between a depiction of the Ryder character set in the near future and some other protagonist in terms of quality? If the writers couldn't be arsed to muster up something decent for a character with an established story, could we really expect them to do much better for a new one?

SAM was a cheap way to ditch the class system and make the gameplay more mundane. Turns out, gameplay limitations are not always such a bad thing.

The talent tree here was way too much. By the second PT you're practically a god, if you weren't already.

Which is fine for me as I did not like the concept or execution. There is a literally zero-percent change of BioWare dictating their stories based on what people who haven't played the game say.

I like the gameplay, I like the setting, I tend to like the stories.

If we just saw the dialogue from SAM about temperature changes and so forth it would be fine. But having SAM tell you three times in 30 seconds that the temperature is safe, then not safe, then safe...well, it's very annoying. But you know that.

Can you really write him off tho? I think logically there will be more SAM in the future because without him the initiative would crash and burn quite fast.

Sadly yes, the entire Initiative is that mentally challenged apparently. Shepard and Co stopped Sovereign and defeated the Geth without the help of an onboard AI, whereas Ryder and Co can't walk two feet without SAM telling them it's too cold, or its too hot.

EDI was appropriately used when the narrative situation called for it, the way SAM was implemented made it seem like Ryder & Co would shove crayons up their noses without nannybot to tell them no.

I'd agree that SAM played a much bigger role than I'd have liked. If they continue in this vein (build another game w/ Ryder or another character with such implant), I'd hope they'll dial it back a bunch - or at least let us turn off some of the notices (temperature, minerals, etc.) That said, I did appreciate the fact that Ryder was able to function when SAM went offline.

EDI >>>>>>>>Sam all day!..... ^^^I like how EDI evolved over the journey of the game...she is asking questions that is evolving from an AI concept to questions that make Shepard ask her is she afraid?...a human emotion...and i like how she pauses when asked that in this scene..(great stuff).....she then re-composes herself and assures Shepard she is ready for the task as hand....haha....say what you will about the ending of ME3 and all that, but the writing was solid through the entire series.....EDI was funny as hell at times and had a lot of character....SAM on the other hand....

EDI was pretty cool. She was fairly dry in ME2, except when she attempted to make the occasional joke. Her evolution was very nicely written.
SAM is... a work in progress. EDI was entirely independent, with her own suite of sensors and whatnot, whereas SAM relies on his host for sensory perception. It's been awhile, but I vaguely remember SAM questioning Ryder about human emotions and her experiences. I think that he, too, could have an intriguing growth arc if the writers will it.
I will say that I find it a bit creepy that SAM is always there in Ryder's brain...

Set the game 50 years in the future and open up the race options...or not have an MEA2...that'd pretty much eliminate SAM.

The concept of an intertwined AI allows for so much more than just open world quest mark reminders.

You make an excellent point here. I suspect some of the dislike of SAM is due to the constant narration (temperatures, mineral deposits, etc.). Curtail some of that and let SAM's personality flourish, it'd be a lot easier for more people to appreciate him.
