Awwww, no nomination for Subnautica? That was one definite highlight for me this year. It could still have counted as an independent game, right? But otherwise, looking at the other big nominations, I gotta say, 2018 was damn strong gaming year. Lot's of pretty tough contenders there (most of which I have not played). From what I hear, RDR2 will probably beat them all (and apparently they deserve it, too) but really, a lot of great games came out, a lot of them not for PC unfortunately.

Looks like a GoW / RDR2 whitewash...
Will be interesting to see how it goes.

I haven't played any of the nominees except Farcry 5 and that game was BAD, lol.
So I have no feelings toward that list whatsoever.

Best RPG: Kingdom Come: Deliverance (We have not had an RPG of this magnitude in ages. Where Witcher "redefined" something - if you believe them - Kingdom Come went back to the RPG roots.)
Best Game Direction: Spider-Man (I was a minor fan back before my teens, despite being an arachnophobe, so I guess you can see where that came from!)
Best Narrative: Kingdom Come: Deliverance (yes, it's the typical revenge cliche, but the way it's served is extremely human and believable, and the entire rocket ascent from rags to riches is also explained in the end - by another very well presented cliche. It says something when a game has a superb narrative despite using two cliches when it comes to the protagonist.)
Best Score: tough choice between Post Scriptum and Kingdom Come: Deliverance
Best Audio Design: Post Scriptum. Hands down. Stay a while and listen:
Best Independent Game: I believe Post Scriptum and Kingdom Come both qualify. Tough choice. Ugh.
Best Multiplayer Game: Post Scriptum
Best eSports Game: War Thunder Best eSports Player: Vescolar Best eSports Team: Tutti eSport (Stop looking at me like that, you can bet your ass I'll be pushing my boyos through and Vesco wins it because he just straight up went ahead and was willing to explain basics of WT tournament dogfighting to me, being a seasoned top-tier player in them, even though I was a complete newbie to how tournament flying worked)
Little to not opinion on categories not listed. If I were to add my own, though...
Best Addon Content: DCS: F/A-18C Hornet

The nominees for esportz and fighting games is beyond stupid and just goes to show how ignorant these shows are. Esports noms with no fighting games? Best Fight Games without TEKKEN 7? Are you kidding me? This game was more hyped at Evo this year than anything else, especially when LilMajin was trashing Koreans including the top two players in the world and had the crowd ROARING like a 90's WWF event. It was insane. The following and hype behind Tekken 7 has pushed the franchise to a new level never seen before. Sure Street Fighter is popular but Blazblue over Tekken AND Guilty Gear XRD? Anime fighters are very niche and have never had large followings. Only FighterZ has broken that mold due to it being based on DragonBall. To snub the premier 3D fighter is to discredit your list. What the hell.
Here's an example of Tekken 7 at Evo this year:
Having said that, I do look forward to the previews and hope Red Dead 2 wins for best score and GOTY. It's also enjoyable to watch with friends when gaming or just chilling online.

If I worked for Ubisoft or Quantic Dream, I’d feel insulted that DQ XI got a spot in the RPG category, instead of Odyssey or Detroit, no matter how good or bad those games are.

I'll give you AC but Devoid Become Gameplay is little more than an fmv. It's not something I'd consider a game. Does it have a well done narrative? Yes, and its characters are easy to relate to but there's nothing that challenges your senses or skills other than pick A,B,C and remember. Dragon Quest has always been a great rpg and pretty consistent while XI in particular took a huge dump on the head of the inhabitants of Eos.

It's just that I have a hard time thinking of jrpgs as rpgs. To me, rpg is about the game offering some sort of freedom that allows you to make your character essentially different from all other players' characters. So, in that sense I consider even Life is Strange a rpg.
I looked up and DQ XI let's you pick the hero name. So there's that.
