Some people can tolerate a less than stellar world if the characters or story are compelling enough to pull through it. Others feel as though the game absolutely has to have the aesthetics down in order to be routed into the world they're playing. EDIT: Also, HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO YOU ALL!

I'm pretty sure that DA4 will knock the story and character elements out of the park, or at least do them reasonably well, but I'm not so sure about the gameplay features so I feel more attention should be given to those features.

I can't vote in the poll.
I was pleased with DAI's roleplay elements, combat, companions, and most of the storytelling. In general, I thought quests and gameplay features were mostly fine. The only thing I would change would be to have maps that felt more alive. In DA4, my ideal would be a detailed, living Minrathous, a la Neverwinter in Neverwinter Nights. However, I don't necessarily want them to devote "the most amount of attention" to the setting, or any one of those things.
There needs to be balance.
The only thing up there I really don't give a damn about is MP and would prefer that any resources that go into that feature be spread across the rest of the game. But I doubt I'll get that, so...

Is this really a question? Of course microtransactions!!! DA 4 really needs a ton of microtransactions like for example Fallout 76 or Fortnite. Because EA and their shareholders are demanding it. Personally i would prefer that the Storytelling and especially the companions getting the focus.
It have always been Bioware Strengths to write interessing companions.

Things like characters, dialogue, storytelling, variety of environments, are areas that DA is already strong in, so I'm going to vote Quests here. Particularly fleshing out side-quests/content, mini-games, etc.. These are areas that could use more attention. And definitely looking forward to seeing what kind of combat goodness LukeBarrett & the gang have been cooking up.

And definitely looking forward to seeing what kind of combat goodness LukeBarrett & the gang have been cooking up. While I agree with you about those areas being Biowares strengths in the past, I feel they have been lacking in the past couple releases as they focused on other areas. For me, what were their strengths should be the main focus. Those are the things that get me drawn in and give the game life. Combat focused games are a dime and dozen where great story driven games are not. I don't have the confidence with them in that dept as I once did.

I picked Storytelling, because all of the other elements (combat, characters, level design) affect how the story is told, so ultimately it's a catchall. I just want every bit of the next game to be great, is that so much to ask?

I’m not currently playing Fallout 76, but I have read a lot of the bad press around it. Aside from the issues with Bethesda’s game engine and combat targeting, they all say the same thing: West Virginia feels like a sterile, lifeless world without any NPCs to interact with outside of combat, and most of the quests taking the form of “piece together what happened to this dead NPC.” It occurs to me that was a common criticism of DAI’s open areas. Dragon Age definitely had NPCs in every one of its zones, but often they were the equivalent of window dressing. They didn't react to the Herald/Inquisitor (or to enemies) and you couldn't interact with them. And more often than not, quests followed a familiar pattern: find a note some dead guy left behind and follow the instructions contained within.
Although there are people enjoying Fallout 76, the reviews have been universally bad and the game is already being discounted heavily on various platforms. BioWare would do well to learn from Bethesda's error.
Incidentally, I picked Storytelling/World-Building for this reason.

I'm definitely not a fan of this. However, if they do it I would hope they'd go closer to the Diablo 3 route than the ME route. In D3, the character who wrote the journal is the one who narrates it, and it will play as you walk/run through the area. You can turn it off it you want, then play or read it later from the codex list. I hate the ME voiced codex because a.) the voice is terrible; b.) it auto-starts as soon as you scroll over an entry; and c.) you can't turn it off/disable it.

I can definitely get behind the idea of playing them while you're "in game" and not actually in the menu, and you read my mind with the character's VA reading codexes relating to them. I was specifically thinking of the Cullen letter about Cassandra's offer when I wrote this idea.
Although, with respect, I personally love the VA for Mass Effect's codex. He has that 1950's news anchor flavor to it.

Brief audio diaries like in Bioshock are OK, but listening to the dry narration of a codex describing the history of Val Royeaux's marketplace would be tedious and mind-numbing. It would add nothing, and I can read FAR faster than I can listen. And even if you could turn it off, it would be a YUGE investment in resources.
So no. No no no no NO.

Man, it would be awesome if they brought back Genitivi's VA for this.
[edit] Wow, he did a lot more voices in DAO/2 than I realized. Javaris! O_O I can sort of hear it now that I know, but I never had a clue while playing the games.

I'm '' fine '' with a lot of things in the series, specifically DA:I, but if there's one thing I'm hoping has a BIG change is the class system. Warrior, Rogue, Mage just isn't enough for me anymore.

I voted for Storytelling / World Building (Lore, plot, NPC, elements of narrative design, dialogue) but the fights, the choices and consequences, the setting, the aesthetics, the companions and the quests are also very important. I hope in SP not MP.

For this thought experiment about a hypothetical 'Dragon Age 4' I voted for Combat because it's the obvious choice. Not biased at all I agree with this choice. A deep and coherent ruleset takes time to develop. Roleplaying (the other thing I care about) seems like it wouldn't require extra resources as long as the design decision to permit it was made early on. Not making personality decisions on behalf of the protagonist wouldn't require more writing, just different writing. And it might actually lead to less non-interactive content (cutscenes), and that both seems like a good outcome and would save resources. So my answer is a coherent and detailed ruleset to allow deep and tactical combat (NOT action combat - action combat is unacceptable).
