I didn't know there are people who don't like Firefly! *g* I've wanted a Mass Effect standalone game Firefly style ever since I watched that show. Or a Farscape-esque group of aliens. Looks like all the fun to be had as space pirates will be done by a different developer. Bioware could have easily made a series of not too serious games in the Milky Way following the stories of all sorts of adventurers and criminals. Instead we got goofy in a bad way with Andromeda. *sigh* The Outer Worlds will have to heal my disappointment with both Bioware and Bethesda. My body is ready! You kind of got that with Andromeda. It was very firefly-esque in terms of frontier finding and even casual dialogue.

Obsidian better do a superb job with The Outer Worlds, the nostalgia ridden adoration for Fallout New Vegas can just as easily turn on them, like what is happening to Bethesda now.
I really think it was a mistake on their part to embrace the "spiritual sucessor of fallout in space" advertising. Sure let people make the connection on their own but don't unnecessarily up themselves the expectations bar.

Awww, man, when they walk around the ship in the video it's got a real Serenity vibe to it. As far as I am concerned, the more inspiration they take from Firefly, the better. Really looking forward to this one. Right now, it looks like a must-buy next year for me.

Especially given Bioware and Bethesda, the only two AAA RPG makers out there, have utterly failed to deliver for 2019.
For Obsidian to blow this opportunity, they would have to epically fail.

I doubt it. Some people enjoy to hate, now i bet even the smallest of problems on Outer Worlds will be compared to the nostalgia of FO:New Vegas and used to hate on the game.

Though I am a big fan of theirs, have even been called an apologist due to defending them when people bring up KOTOR 2's shortcomings. But after New Vegas in the bugs department I don't expect perfection either. Heck Pillars of Eternity a game that was made at their own pace had bugs when it was released. But it can't be worst than Pathfinder: Kingmaker in terms of bugs and balance issues.

Expectations driven by nostalgia can be a dangerous thing.
I think a lot of people still like to look at New Vegas as if it was a perfect game instead of a good game that was plagued by a great number of bugs, and i get the feeling a lot will be waiting for something akin to perfection too for Outer Worlds.
Time will tell.

The main issue with The Outer Worlds "reception" is that people don't seems to understand/know that the game is not AAA. Private Divisions fund games well under the low AAA budget range and Obsidian itself doesn't have the amount of devs required to make something AAA these days.
That means people are expecting something bigger and more polished than what they are going to get.

I don't NEED AAA.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH wait you're actually serious. As for The Outer Worlds, I'm expecting an Obsidian game with all of the usual Obsidian flaws. But none of its fans will care, all while insisting Obsidian is better than BioWare for a game that hasn't sold anywhere near BioWare sales.

"As of November 8, 2010, the game had shipped 5 million copies worldwide, achieving revenue of $300 million. Electronic Entertainment Design and Research, a market research firm, estimates that the game had sold 11.6 million copies worldwide by 2015."
Which Bioware game has sold that much again??? How about you actually do some research before you regurgitate the same nonsense over and over...

Obsidian states that the game is 15-40 hours long:
Totally fine by me! That's about the same playtime as ME1. My no side quests rush run was 14 hours.
I'm quite tried of all the open world bloat games these days. Looking forward to several playthroughs.
