Most games used to be 12 hours back in the fps days. Now those same fps games are 4 to 6 hours. People also weren't paying $60. $60 have been the price I paid for new PC releases since the late 90s (I even paid more than that for BG2) until a few years ago when the big publishers decided it wasn't enough anymore. Nintendo was selling games at around ~$80 back in the late 80s. Consoles games had +$10-15 on the PC version too. Paying sub-60 price for games have always been limited to indies/crowdfunded and games 1+ years out already where I live. That's in Canadian dollars, but for most of the time period the game were just $10 cheaper in USD ($50 instead of $60) which isn't that much of a difference if cost is entirely based on the length of the game main story before even playing it.

Yeah what's up with the price discussion?
Ad I said, yu can rush through ME1 in less than 15 hours. My longest PT was 35 hours.
I guess the question here is whether that estimate is for the entire game or just main story. But even if 40 is completionist that's still fine. Or at least it used to be for Bioware 10 years ago.
People buy shooters with a 5-10h campaign for full price.
The only reason I could see The Outer Worlds 10 bucks cheaper is because it's AA. Depending in their development costs they may be good with a slightly lower price.
The industry can raise the price tag for big open world games if there's a "value discrepancy" now. They are expensive to make. I'd be fine with that.

Paying sixty bucks is fine, however selling dlc that should have been part of the base game for more $$$ is a rather " phallic action " .
Having said that, I pretty much have a shut-up-and-take-my-money attitude towards Outer Worlds.

What truly is the selling point is the possible replay factor, if what they've been saying is correct there would be multiple ways to solve different quests changing stuff here and there. So in one playthrough you can try one thing, and in others you try different options.

I guess the question here is whether that estimate is for the entire game or just main story. howLongtoBeat being the way people evaluate the worthiness of a game price tag has been all the rage lately. Going by the actual video interview, they lengthen the game to KoTOR 2, maybe a bit shorter. HowLongToBeat list KoTOR2 main story at 22h17m (rushed) to 41h14m (leisure), with 30h for median. The time for 100% median is at 50h. So the 15-40 hours seems to be for the main story.

late 80s - early 90s games were like 20 minutes - 1.5 hour max tbh. Some RPGs like Might & Magic series, Wolfenstein, Elder Scrolls and Monkey Island series were hours long.

I'm fine with this. However, price out to reflect a shorter game. 40 hours, or 30 hours are the norm. People are too used to the 100 plus hour of moving around a huge empty map these days, if the game costs 60 dollars and is a 30 hour game that's perfectly reasonable. Seriously, enough with "more and bigger" already. I play games because I enjoy the storylines and dialogue and, when it's actually fun and innovative, the action. I have zero interest in spending an extra 40 hours collecting rocks and fighting the same cookie-cutter battles over and over again.

Game Informer has "exclusive" coverage, they've been putting some videos, here's the latest. Combat looks pretty good already imo, just by watching the video.

How is this a spiritual successor of FO anyways? I don't get it why people keep calling it that. It's nothing like FO. You could argue that Wasteland 2 was a spiritual successor of the original Fallout, but this looks like a completely new IP. And they've already stated right from the start it wasn't going to be a sandbox 200+ hours type of game, not much news there.

And they've already stated right from the start it wasn't going to be a sandbox 200+ hours type of game, not much news there. Actually it was the devs who implied that when they announced the game. Where? Obsidian has been in damage control since the trailer was released over everyone claiming the game was a Fallout 3+ clone, gaming journalists just didn't want to lose credibility by saying they jumped to conclusions after watching a trailer so none reported their error despite interviews being clear the game wasn't open world like Fallout 3+. I suspect you think them name plugging Tim and Leonard most widely known creation (Fallout) and Obsidian greatest selling title (New Vegas) was a "hint", but it's just something every studios do when pushing a new IP and its creator. Using Arcanum and Alpha Protocol would have made most people go "who?" at the reveal. There is one thing I find super amusing over the whole sad story of "Obsidian are a bunch of liars because they aren't making the game I want!". That is that Tim and Leonard never worked on the Fallout everyone is thinking about. They had nothing to do with Fallout 3+, they were not even at Obsidian when the studio made New Vegas. Their Fallout has more in commons with Pillars of Eternity than the Fallout everyone is thinking about actually.

Not a sandbox open world and not a Fallout 3 clone?
Dear Obsidian, I haven't told you this in a really long time, but...you can take my money at the launch day.

This all sounds promising.
They should start marketing it as their USP (by modern gaming standards):
"Not a huge open world" "Don't go anywhere and do anything, just play the story" "See that mountain? You don't need to climb it, it's just decoration"

So, possibly the 6th of August ? If they removed it, it's probably because it's not releasing on that date.

Y'all talkin' 'bout dem price tags...
And I'm just excited for a new RPG by Obsidian... IN SPACE!
Sci-fi has always been my favorite genre, especially in games. A bit like how a 100 is higher than a 99, regarding fantasy settings, I like sci-fi more, but both get an A+.
I'm most curious about the "flaw" system, and how gear-modding will work. I know there's no crafting system, and while I like crafting, I know it's difficult to do well. So this feels like it will be a happy balance between crafting and "whatcha-see-is-whatchaget".
I do hope you can customize the cosmetics of gear as well. Weapons AND armor. I know it's not important stat-wise, but it goes a long way towards roleplaying for me.
But if not, i.e. a gears' appearance is determined by the upgrades, then it's all good.
I do appreciate that they said from the get-go that it's not an open-world game but an exploration-based game. To me that says "honesty". They're not hiding behind vague terms, they're straight-up telling us what it is as well as what it's not. For me, that level of integrity goes a long way.
That, and it's the first time since Andromeda that I've actually been excited for a game release.

Surprise surprise... Well at least I already know how it works the dumb MS store, I have like 3 games there or something (a piece of shit if anyone wonders). Epic is gonna be remembered for ever as the worst junk of an on line platform whose only purpose was to piss people off, oh and steal personal information. The MS store exclusive seems bullshit. MS bought Obsidian, but The Outer Worlds is a project that is currently not being affected by the purchase. Upcoming titles will obviously, but MS acquiring Obsidian was when they were already working on the game. What a load of horse shit.

Disappointing news. I won't be getting it then, I won't support monopolizing where you are allowed to purchase games from. I don't have an endless supply of money so I like shopping around for the best deals and this ensures that I'm not allowed to do that. SO NO THANKS EPIC!
