I'm kinda surprised so many people are upset that the games still 3 years out. 1) I thought it was generally understood that a developer should take their time with a game, rather than rushing a mediocre product out the door (ex. Dragon Age II & Andromeda). I've seen plenty of Shigeru Miyamoto quotes about, "a delayed game is a good game..." in the past because of how many games (in 2017/2018) were released unpolished, or with a lack of content. It'd be better for the franchise if BioWare took their time with it, especially since Dragon Age: Inquisition seems to have polarizing opinions, and they have to compete against other Open-world/RPG giants like CDPR and Rockstar. 2) The writing was already on the wall that this game was likely going to take till at least 2021 before being released. Mike Laidlaw mentioned that it was a mistake for BioWare to release DA:I on both last-gen and current-gen consoles. Considering that Sony is likely to have a new console out by 2021, with Microsoft likely being 2020, if BioWare wants to capitalize on next-gen, they're going to wait until both next-gen platforms have released. Anger is one of the 5 stages of grief I'd 100% rather they take their time and deliver a quality product. And yeah I completely agree, if they want to compete with studios like CDPR, Rockstar, and Bethesda, all studios which take their time, they can't rush products to completion.

It’s been four fucking years since the release of DAI. Add a MINIMUM of three years on to that and you have a wait of seven fucking years. And this isn’t all development time either. The first four years was “Let’s push Dragon Age to the side so we can work on other properties!” NOW we're into the three-plus years of development time, with what little work that had been done up until this point tossed out the goddamn window because it didn't fit with EA's new LIIIIIIIVE SEEEEEERVICES mandate.
I think a little anger is warranted. Anger? I don't think so. There are 4 franchises (Dragon Age, Mass Effect, Anthem and SWTOR). They are getting a new game out every 2 years or thereabouts. If we get angry we fall into that 'entitled gamer' mindset that's so unhelpful to have, though I entirely understand that people are waiting very patiently for the next one. That assumes that I play Mass Effect or SWTOR. I don’t. Nor do I have much interest in Anthem. My sole reason for being here is Dragon Age, so I’ll act as entitled as I goddamn like when I’m being told to wait a minimum of SEVEN YEARS for the next installment just so they can shove microtransactions down my throat. And no, I don’t believe live services are all about “introducing new forms of storytelling.” That’s such a pile of bullshit. It’s about microtransactions, plain and simple. One way or another, you’re going to be paying for them in Anthem. Just wait and see.

The BS you're spouting about microtransactions in games that aren't even released yet falls quite firmly under "delusional." 2. Yes, I think "entitled" is a great word to use for someone who genuinely believes video games have to be released on a schedule that suits him, not the creators.

Seven years for a sequel, that is supposed to continue the story of the previous episode . Wtf ? It's not even something that could be like RD2, or Eder scrolls, where guys would put all their resources into that thing, with the same kind of level, no it would be just because it was delayed because of Anthem, and so they did little for a few years, their fingers in their ass, waiting their turn. So basically after seven years, we wouldn't even have a game really monstruous, but just a good one, like DA:I, with the same results. Well, I sure hope it's a fucking joke. I have already forgotten a lot of things from the previous episode.

I'm not sad that BioWare may choose to invest 3 or more years of intense work on the next DA, I'm bewildered by the fact that someone at EA or BW apparently thought it would be a good idea to end a game with a major cliffhanger and absolute tease in the last DLC and then think "Eh, you know, it's not like people will care if we make them wait 7+ years for the conclusion of the story we so deliberately left open ended - let's work on a new IP instead!"
I'm also not angry. There are a lot of things happening in this world that might warrant some tempered fury, but this is not one of them.

Would you pay for Dragon Age at $100 full content, no updates, without microtransactions? Without going into caveats or saying its a false equivalency, mind you, because at the end of the day it is not. The heart of the gaming economy as it is, and why the lucrative nature of micro transactions and service models are essentially keeping games afloat at a state of equilibrium for Supply and Demand, to put a basic economic spin on it.

Why the attitude? People are free to give their opinions here, whatever they happen to be, and I for one am sick of the hostile responses some users keep coming back with. If you disagree that's not a problem, let's discuss it, but can we at least have a little respect for each side? i know right? like why people can't just have a discussion without being assholes? it's really easy...

Just sayin' The number of tantrums that arose when Bioware ended single-player support of Andromeda was out of this world xD "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Schreier was right! AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!" Or something like that.

Man, I finally peek my head back in here to see everyone's opinions on the news and...wow.
Well, personally I'm just excited for any sort of confirmation and potentially a date for the game. That said, while I'm not batting an eyelash at a 3+ year long dev time for a AAA game (or any game really), that the total time between installments in an ongoing story is going to be at least 7 years, should this report be accurate, is...a lot. Maybe not by a few other companies standards, but for Bioware, yeah it's a long damn time. So to be honest, while again I'm very happy to just have the darn thing officially confirmed, I also can't really blame people for being put off at seeing the development cycle of one of their favorite series turn into some Bethesdian nightmare only Todd Howard could love.

I support this. I also support people that feel patience is justified. We all want a new Dragon Age. That is a unifying factor that some of us are conveniently forgetting, for "reasons". Boredom? Not enough good games to play? Those would be my excuses, but still. Do as I say, not as I do, and I can continue being on the razor's edge of a ban and y'all can remain civil and stuff. I was supposed to bring balance to the Force. Sand.

EA hasn't done anything to you either - you are being extremely hyperbolic. The original plan was to have DA4 pre-2020. The original plan for SWTOR for the Valkorian storyline was to have 3 expansions with chapters between not just two expansions with two years waiting for the next expansion. Anthem originally was meant to be out fall 2017, then Fall 2018, now early 2019. Stuff happened, and they didn't do it to hurt you or cus they disregard you but because making video games is hard and it's hard to plan ahead accurately. And it's better for them to delay or change plans, then crunch their workers to exhaustion. Which would be the only other option.

IMO if people would temper their expectations, there wouldn't be so much angst when they receive bad news. Just sayin' Oh yes, the hype ruins what should be positive expectations from the fans. By hoping for so much, exaggerating everything and drawing a line in the sand, demanding we all pick a side, we just set ourselves up for a fall. Funnily enough some of the games I've enjoyed the most have been the ones the fans have been disappointed in, but because I went in with no expectations I just saw them for what they were. As opposed to what everyone expected them to be for many years leading up to release.

Asuming that the game is: -Bug free, or near enough -Tells a complete story -Has as much content as any other DA game (with all the dlc) Then sure, given that's what a AAA game with all the extra content normally costs anyway. However, to drop that much money on a game, I'd need a lot of faith that the developer can and will actually deliver on all that.
