Time is reletive though, if it really is a couple months out that will be an eyeblink for the ten years we have been waiting. Though honestly I think most of us have only been seriously waiting since 2019. We had Andromeda and even, to an extent, Anthem to keep us busy in the meantime but that is pretty much when the first trailer dropped. If I am remeembering the time frame correctly. Oh, I wasn't referring to the 4 months as a long wait, but the nearly-ten years lol I'm probably (relatively) unique as a long-time BioWare fan that played exclusively Dragon Age for quite a while. I only played Mass Effect when I was gifted MELE for Xmas 2021, and realistically didn't play until Jan 2022. They definitely have tided me over, but DA:D was never far from my mind...

Largely same but other way around. Came to BioWare through ME first, actually like DA much more though. Though ME is probably my third favorite fictional setting still.

Bree (half of Kit Rocha) @mostlybree.bsky.social gifs are controversial on my timeline, I see. lol
I love gifs like the cringe elder millennial I am, but I will not use them if they don't have alt text (that I can set), so hitting snooze on that for now.
Trick Weekes @trickweekes.bsky.social One writer on the team absolutely hates gifs, so as a joke, I took a page with an overview of the follower I owned and replaced every description with a single gif.
And then someone in another department saw the page and said that they liked that version better than our detailed write-ups.

We had Andromeda and even, to an extent, Anthem to keep us busy in the meantime but that is pretty much when the first trailer dropped. I thought the first trailer was at the 2018 Game Awards. Admittedly that is pretty close to 2019 and was more a case of reassuring us that DA4 was still a thing because we had heard nothing since Trepasser. At that stage I was hopeful of something in 2020 but of course then there was Covid. However, all the information given out during 2020, plus the trailer at the end, again at the Game Awards I seem to recall, had me really excited for an imminent release. Of course, we know now why that didn't happen. As for games to occupy me. I originally got into the ME trilogy whilst waiting for DAI. I had purchased a new PC and wanted to see how it performed. Whilst I normally prefer fantasy RPG, I was assured that I would enjoy ME and it was Bioware after all, so I took the plunge and was hooked. I also was very excited when Andromeda was first announced and would have played that, only my PC was then 5 years old and not good enough. (A work colleague also advised me that I had dodged a bullet in that respect because of the technical problems associated with Andromeda when it first came out). Thinking that DA4 could not be far off, I thought I would wait and see what spec we needed for that before I replaced it, then play Andromeda. So, here we are, all these years later and I'm still using my old PC, waiting to discover what I will need to play DA:D. Not long now though, I hope! (Crosses fingers)

Here's the blog post But yeah, they very explicitly stated that we'd get a release date along with the "full reveal," four months back in Dec 2023. Long-ass wait, for those of us that have been in the long haul since 2014, but we're so close now. Very exciting! Call me paranoid but I'm hedging my bets with a release window, rather than a date. It's safer. I'd be pleasantly surprised with an actual date and even more so if it won't get delayed. I suppose the first clue would be the earnings call, if they talk about Dreadwolf coming out this fiscal year (which can be shuffled around all the way to March) or in a specific quarter (which would give a better idea of a smaller window). Oh, I wasn't referring to the 4 months as a long wait, but the nearly-ten years lol I'm probably (relatively) unique as a long-time BioWare fan that played exclusively Dragon Age for quite a while. Played DAO back in 2009 when it came out at my brother's recommendation but, due to being in university, I didn't really have a lot of time to dedicate to it. Came back to the series in 2011 after graduating, a few months after DA2 came out, and have been playing the whole series a since. Played ME for the first time in summer 2011, as well, but that series didn't stick with me as much as DA. I prefer fantasy in video games, while sci-fi in tv shows and movies. I have Dawntrail to keep me busy this summer and I should also get back to Solasta anyway, regardless of what gets announced for Dreadwolf.

Especially at first. Granted this depends on when things happen, if we get a teaser before, and when they release afterall June, assuming that will be the release for the wold reveal, is still pretty late in the year...but yes I do think we'll get a release window firt and then a release date at a later trailer.

This "Summer Reveal" can occur at any time between J, J & A. June is thrown around ( myself included ) but if I know No-News-Bio, the studio will wait as long as possible before the announcement. And, that makes sense. Decisions are made for the good of the company and DA4 is crucial to its survival (imo). Ergo, premature announcements are a no-no.
It's safe to bet that the upcoming Financial Quarter statements will include mentioning DA4. How EA will formulate its game state is key. My thoughts are that EA will say something like:
-1- "Dreadwolf is expected to launch in the Fall of 2024" -2- "Dreadwolf is expected to launch this fiscal year". -3- "Bioware's Summer Reveal announcement is on track..."
Number three is my choice. It's neutral and leaves N-N-B all by its lonesome self to make it or not.
I dare not speculate if number two is said.

I dare not speculate if number two is said. Well here's some news for you. You won't have to speculate on any of them. If it's anything like last year (and I see no reason for it not to be), they will have slides showing all kinds of things from a business perspective, including their title slate for the upcoming fiscal year. For reference, here's the one from last May, for FY24. You will notice the lack of Dreadwolf in it, because it wasn't planned for that year specifically. I expect EA to show the FY25 slate next month, which should conclusively confirm or deny Dreadwolf coming out within the (fiscal) year.

ON THE OTHER HAND-- There's that pesky little text in the right-hand column that says "Only announced titles are listed. Two unnannounced games in FY24 are not captured above - one EA Sports title and one Racing title." It is theoretically feasible that they might do a vague 'mumble mumble' reference to DA:D like this, since they haven't officially announced a release date target yet and that's anticipated to be announced after the FY25 annual meeting. I keep waffling back and forth on whether or not I expect them to actually name a target quarter, with pros/cons for both. It'll be interesting to see how they decide to handle that, given how careful they've been with DA:D's information thus far.

I would note, however, that the two unannounced games (UFC 5 and WRC) have both been actually announced after this, on September.
Dreadwolf, on the other hand, has had a title reveal, in-game shots (environments, but still) and they have said they are showing something this summer. Makes far more sense for it to be shown in the FY25 slate next month, assuming the plan for late 2024 holds.

Nah, I agree. It seems unlikely that they WON'T announce anything. But there's that teensy weensy part of me that's like "no they're gonna keep the game in obscurity forever and I will wait forever some more." TT-TT

So the wife made a comment yesterday on how fast April has gone....which annoying in a way. But soon thereafter it hit me, only about two weeks from the earning call... instead of a month.
Looking forward to it with a lot more uncertainty and trepidation then last year's. Of course still trying to keep the hype levels down too. But two weeks out.

No-New-Bio's dilemma = CANON issues
Multiple choices and endings create headaches for sequels. Dragon Age Keep failed to corral the issues, imo. For example: ME3's tech colour endings was fine until the studio decided to make a sequel. ME5 ( in the same galaxy ) is stuck in development unless N-N-B makes one ending CANON. Larian Studios solved this by electing to do no sequels. What about DA4? Well, in Tresspasser (Gervaise correct me where I go wrong), our Quizzy had the option to romance Baldy, kill him, retire... and maybe something else. Automatically, with a sequel, there exists a CANON issue because of players' different choices. I believe we can all see it and have different solutions of which none are 100% agreed to.
What can be done? Hm...a game sequel with new chars hold no baggage, no CANON hiccups while keeping the must have: Baldy for one and potentially Varric. Keep major character cameos to zero and ignore the graphic comics stories. In other words, keep the game in a sandbox, where it belongs. Keep away from multiple endings is a good choice. If bringing back chars with potential CANON issues.. well chop off one of the limbs (ie: in a romance, partner died).
We know some DA4 characters: Baldy --- which means quizzy let him live Davrin -- A new Grey Warden Bellara - A confirmed char (I believe) but I know next to nothing about this human.
Varric -- I prefer him as a supporting NPC or in a cameo.
Breaking Canon can be avoided provided the main story arc and side quests are properly written.
Question. Does anyone believe that CANON will be broken in DA4? If so, what?

What about DA4? Well, in Tresspasser (Gervaise correct me where I go wrong), our Quizzy had the option to romance Baldy, kill him, retire... and maybe something else. In Tresspasser we can say, we want to kill him or to stop him. Both implying he doesn't achieve his goal. So their isn't a big Canon issue. This will be easy to write. A plus if the inquisition and our HC make a appearances in the end. The issue will be in DA5, if they want Solas to be their as well.

I don't see the issue as long as you plan ahead and choose the player choices wisely. It can be done. Then don't call it Dragon age and make a new game. A Sandbox is only good for building games. Does anyone believe that CANON will be broken in DA4? If so, what? They only will be broken, if the dev. want it to be that way. So i will ignor it and fix it in my head after i played the game.

I guess I'm a little confused by the idea of "broken" canon (but maybe that's just my sleep deprived brain). So far, Bioware avoids canon (in the game state, not for books etc). So with regard to DA4, while Bioware may have a default worldstate for people who have never played the series before, the default state won't actually be "canon." The magic of DA is each player gets to decide their own game canon.
DA4 does have a lot of variables to juggle, which won't be easy. However, Bioware has obviously been planning on these variables ever since the DAI options became available to record in the Keep years ago. Unlike BG3, the ending of DAI (and every DA game so far) funnels toward a conclusion that is more or less the same; for example, you can't side with the Archdemon in DAO or kill Solas at the end of Trespasser. So DA4 will begin the same for everyone, even if we as players have different goals for how we want to handle Solas. We can't predict how the story will go (or whether our new character will even agree with our Inquisitor, tbh).
As for canon for DA5 (assuming a DA5 happens), I think we can only speculate wildly. We don't know if Thedas as is can be preserved or if radical change is inevitable (whether due to the Veil or the Blight). I can see why Bioware would be tempted to wipe the slate clean to some extent because the more complicated the variables get, the harder it is to make each game.
Personally, I expect Solas as a character to be wrapped up in DA4, regardless of whether there is a choice to let him live or not. I think there are new and worse threats on the horizon.

Bioware may have a default worldstate for people who have never played the series before, the default state won't actually be "canon." Yeah, devs - mostly Patrick I think - have covered this off before (though not in a while). Canon - "This thing happened", regardless of the players experience or choices in the game in question. Example - a player may not have played Witch Hunt (they didn't know about it, or couldn't be bothered, whatever), but the events of that DLC happened for their Warden and in that world state. Default - a set of possible choices they use when none are selected by the player (someone new to the series or who skipped an entry).

I feel like, if anything, corralling all of our choices into a workable state for DAD will be easier than in previous games.
After Origins the writers seemingly learned their lesson about putting characters they wanted to use again into quantum states - no Leliana or Anders problems going forward! - and we're heading to the other end of the continent so a lot of stuff that happened in the south can be safely ignored or handled in the form or codex entries where there can be many variations for very little time and money investment.
All the characters that are likely to appear - Solas, Varric, Dorian, Harding - don't have any big player choices affecting their fate. They can record some different dialogue for them depending on what kind of relationship they had with the previous protagonist (and Bull, in Dorian's case) and go from there. Not like whether the Inquisitor likes him or not actually changes Solas's mind about anything.
I don't expect we'll ever see Blackwall, Iron Bull or Cullen in person again since they can all be alive or dead depending on what the player did. Same for the potentially dead DAO and DA2 characters. (Still crossing my fingers for a little Fenris cameo, though. Even a silent one if Danarius got him back.)

I'd be surprised if the DAI cast don't appear in Dreadwolf honestly. I remember looking at the default keep and how stripped down the DAI cast was compared to the other entries - i.e. Solas, Varric and Cassandra being the only compaions recruited.
Usually that's a sign that the had plans for the characters but don't want to confuse newcomers just getting into the franchise - like Anders being killed in the default world state when he was planned to appear in DAI.

It’s wild to think we’re on the cusp of a reveal. THE reveal.
