Well, we will know with more certainty that they expect it to release this year, as of the fiscal meeting.

My birthday is on May 4. If they mention DAD three days later, that'll be the best present I've ever gotten.

I wouldn't even phrase it as "less than two weeks." I'd go with "almost a week from now" -- just 8 more days. [internal screaming]

I just bought a 7800xt so hopefully they'll release this puppy while this card is still relevant. That will make my day.

sarah elizvbeth @sarahxelizvbeth.bsky.social i can’t believe i’m seeing jaywalking/crosswalk discourse.
i’ve never met a single person from a major city that thinks twice about crossing when there’s a chance. people from the burbs and small towns? they’re waiting for lights and crosswalks.
that could never be me.
John Epler @eplerjc.bsky.social the old BioWare office was right across from a coffee place everyone went, and the crosswalks were an unacceptably long way in either direction, so we would dash across in groups
sometimes it was fun to imagine how badly your current project would be fucked if your group didn’t make it across

Chew the scenery: To display excessive emotion or to act in an exaggerated manner while performing; to be melodramatic; to be flamboyant.

It's a popular term in theatre production especially -- to play a movie, theatre, or television part in a very energetic and emotional way, that may seem artificial rather than natural. Where an actor lets you know they are acting their socks off, hamming it up -- where you might think of them as overacting in a most melodramatic fashion. A Fish Called Wanda is a great example of this, I would think. Or perhaps Pedro Pascal's role in the Wonder Woman 1984 film, which I felt was the best part of the whole affair. And I feel like Christoph Waltz as an actor has a habit of chewing on just about every role he's in; he does it so effectively. Thinking about video games that have examples of this, and the one that springs to mind immediately is the old Command & Conquer games -- in particular that one Tim Curry scene where he proclaims, "I'm going to the one place that hasn't been corrupted by capitalism... SPACE!" -- the gif always makes me giggle a little, because you can tell Curry is having fun with the role. And BioWare games have had this in the past -- think DA:O's Loghain/Simon Templeton and DA2's the Arishok/Rick Wasserman during the duel with Hawke. The Tim Curry video in question

Chewing the scenery means the actor is acting way over the top, but instead of being cringy, it just works and is so delicious. Frequently, this is in the role of villain.
My favorite examples are Ian McDiarmid the Emperor from Star Wars or Alan Rickman as the Sheriff of Nottingham in Robin Hood Princr of Thieves.

I was hoping to hold out for the actual announcement before starting Inquisition for the *mumble*deth time, but I don't think I'm even going to make it to the earnings call . My hindbrain keeps telling me that the game will probably be out in November so I'd better start now if I want to get through it twice more before then! (I have a tradition of replaying my 'canon' character before a new Dragon Age game comes out so I can do all the side quests I invariably missed on my first run.) ... now I just need to decide if I want to play a Knight-Enchanter and hang out with Sera or play an archer and hang out with Vivienne. (I want to romance Cassandra and have Iron Bull in the party so there's only one slot free.)

As in overcooking a scene?
I'm watching the Uncanny Counter, a South Korean fantasy horror TV series. In episode 11 staring @ 13:47 we see an emotional scene. If this is what you guys are calling "chewing", I'm a monkey's uncle. He's a high school student that can kick serious arse but at the moment an emotional wreck that is just overdone, imo.... I mean the guy is bawling a river if not an ocean. It's bad acting or bad scene directing...
Sorry, I rather chew gum than this shyte.... There are exceptional movies with emotional scenes from the 40s that are better done and more convincing.... tear jerker movies. But, hey, maybe in South Korea and other Asian countries, this is acceptable.

(I want to romance Cassandra and have Iron Bull in the party so there's only one slot free.) yeah I have a similar thought. Granted it takes me about two months to get through a PT of Inquisition so the way it could go, at the 'worse', if I start by July I should be fine. Though since I think I have saved each main story mission I could do that and the last time I played DAI pretty sure I discovered I'll need to rebuild my Inquisitor from scratch again as well, somehow seems the changes that were made to her were mid playthrough. Which don't know how that happened so will double check before I decide. All this to started playing Ghost Recon with the wife and don't know how much longer that will go pluuuuussss I want to play the FO4 update and my wife may get me a new game for my bday. So I might have a lot to play between here and July-August lol.

Idk if y'all saw this yet, but Felassan posted on their tumblr yesterday about the Dragon Age Keep going down over the weekend. The down-time was noticed on Saturday (April 27th) The Community Manager for the EA support forum "EA Shepard" posted on Sunday (April 28th): "Hey, Everyone I have requested an update on keep from the BioWare team. They are working on some updates on the backend to get the keep updated. Once there is an update from them, I will let everyone know. You may get in before that happens, so please give it time for the team to look into this further! Cheers!"Then on Monday (April 29th) (yesterday) the Community Manager posted: "Hey, everyone I sent a message to the team about it this morning and linked them to the thread. They are aware that the thread is growing. I tested it myself and got the same message, so it is def not an on-your-end thing but the keep itself. Once they provide an update, I will let you know what is happening! Cheers!"Following with, later that day: "The Keep has been confirmed to be up and running again! We see stability on the site, and have tested it, logged in, added world states and we are good to go! If you run into any issues, please clear all cache, and browser data (from the beginning of time) and log back in with your account! As always, if you run into any issues, let us know and we will send it on up! Cheers!"

That sounds promising. Likely we will be able to import our world state into the new game and they clearly want to make sure it runs okay without any hitches. Fingers crossed that means they are still on target for an autumn release.

Speaking of though I do wonder if that means that they will use the Keep to be able to import facial models into the game like they did with the ME equivalent. Could help with repeat playthroughs, recreating your character for whatever reason you need to, and could also serve in the interests of the almighty cameo.

Sorry, I rather chew gum than this shyte.... There are exceptional movies with emotional scenes from the 40s that are better done and more convincing.... tear jerker movies. But, hey, maybe in South Korea and other Asian countries, this is acceptable.
1. Being badass and doing the punch fighting really well doesn't mean a character isn't allowed to show emotional vulnerability or be wrecked by what happens to or around them, especially a teenager who, just by being a teenager, is prone to a lot of emotional back and forth. Saying something like this leads to a boring character with the emotional range of a brick and in real life is pretty damaging. 2. This sort of stuff is most well done with villains, as eaglepursuit said above. These scenes work best when the over the top character is opposite a more stoic character to play off of them in their absurdity. These scenes are also done best when they serve multiple purposes at once, making them enjoyable not just by seeing a character being unhinged but you, as a viewer, also get more out of it. See this scene from the introduction of Solus zos Galvus in FFXIV (spoilers for post-Stormblood, pre-Shadowbringers expansions ofc), it does multiple things: a. exposition (obviously) b. portrays Solus as a powerful personality who demands attention while also portraying the disdain and frustration he feels towards anyone who isn't him, even his co-conspirators c. portrays Varis' disdain for Solus and his ilk, making the proposal he offers the leaders of the Eorzean Alliance later on in the story make sense from his perspective d. does a dark comedic bait and switch by having Varis shoot Solus in the middle of his monologue and then compounds it by having Solus come back and be equal parts disappointed and proud, portraying that he's going to be a bity of trouble to deal with because he can't be killed easily
Alternately, sometimes it's just fun to watch an (spoilers for pre-Endwalker for FFXIV) unhinged performance by a character who revels in the chaos they're creating and loves watching the heroes squirm.

Sometimes a scenery chewing performance is by far the most entertaining part of even a bad production.
Case in point: Jeremy Irons’ unhinged performance as the villain in the 2000 D&D movie

One hopes so To be honest, I still think this sort of thing would be best integrated into the software downloaded with the game itself at least for long term viability. The servers won’t stay up forever.

Case in point: Jeremy Irons’ unhinged performance as the villain in the 2000 D&D movie Oh, yeah, Jeremy Irons is frequently cited as a good example of this. I don't think it's necessarily even Bad Acting TM to do this -- I think it can be done well, with skill and aplomb, where you know they're overacting and they know they're overacting but it somehow still pulls together and just works for the production.

A little birdie also told me that there have been a lot of steam updates for the Dragon Age: Dreadwolf page in the last few days; most recent one was less than an hour ago.
