The King piece on either side I feel would be their world. Modern Thedas for us and Solas’s goal for him.
Both sides are defending that piece/place/ideal from the other, moving in ways to get the other’s removed.
Also fits how the King is all important but also pretty useless. Modern Thedas can’t defend itself so needs groups/other pieces, and Solas’s ideal cannot be achieved without him and his pieces.

In a way it would make more sense for our protagonist to be a pawn - initially unassuming, but with the potential to upgrade to a major player. Not to mention it was a pawn that in the end gave Solas the check-mate.

before DAII released bsners were saying they were gonna name their Hawkes Mike. its gonna be ok I actually did name one of my Michael and like to imagine the reason everyone just used his surname is that he was absolutely the kind of Purple Hawke who introduced himself as Mike Hawke out loud at every opportunity.

it makes me think of the Rooks from AC Syndicate You just gave me another reason to hate this title, since I despise Jacob. I liked Jacob well enough so to each their own, I guess. before DAII released bsners were saying they were gonna name their Hawkes Mike. its gonna be ok Ethan Hawke too obvious?

I plan on buying DAD on Steam to limit EA profits, as the EA suits need to go on a diet, after laying off and munching on all those longtime BioWare employees. Sorry ... I quoted wrong reply ... You do realize that just means BioWare gets even lower cut?
Like why do Valve suits deserve a cut when they aren't even involved in game development?
Considering we need to use EA App anyway, I see no reason to use Steam to launch the game. Valve already got a ton of money from me anyway, they'll live.

"Rook". Eh, I've heard better, and I've heard worse. It's short and to the point. Regretfully, I have yet to learn how to play chess properly, so that symbolism currently eludes me. If Rook is indeed the protagonist of Dreadwolf's title, I won't complain. But out of curiosity, for everyone who does dislike it, why? Just what about the name Rook in of itself irritates you so? To my ear, just the word "Rook" sounds, well... not great, to put it mildly. Maybe more appreciated in the UK? It's also a very masculine sounding name, so calling a female protag "Rook" is... oof... even worse. Funny thing, in Croatian we call "Rook" as "Top", which translated means "Cannon".
So it's a funny image in my head.

Also my experience with Steam has been fairly...well to be the least bit fair...mixed to say the least. Prefer Steam or Origins anyways. Ubisoft connect. Buying my games via carrier pigeon.

Have we speculated about possible plot lines in DAD, cause I don't remember seeing such a discussion yet.
Anyway, I suspect in DAD our chess piece will have to:
- help Tevinter (and Antiva) deal with their qunari problem (somehow)
- help the Wardens deal with red lyrium darkspawn (somehow)
- seek help from a super powerful mage (could be a person with a wisp of an Evanuris, an Evanuris themselves, a Forgotten one or anybody else, there seem to be many powerful mages running amok in Thedas, what are the templars even for, lol)
OR
- seek a mysterious powerful artifact to either weaken Solas or take a part of his power (because how are we, a humble vermin bird, supposed to counter a person who can turn anyone to stone, I've no idea)
Any thoughts on the matter?

I played KCD and it's very niche it's "medieval" and I put that in quotes because it's very much a slavic nationalists interpretation of medieval life in Moravia. I haven't played it, but I was baffled when I saw people talking about it being a realistic version of Medieval Europe when the plot is apparently about a blacksmith's boy who becomes a knight. I don't think I can adequately explain how unlikely that premise is. Knights were a completely different class from tradesmen. There was almost zero class mobility, and that kind of leap from peasant to noble was unheard of. Between maintaining the horse and the armour being a knight was also extremely expensive. I guess you could hypothetically do a realistic story where a blacksmith's apprentice steals the identity of an existing knight along with his horse and armour, but that still raises the question of how the hell that person would know how to fight. Knights trained form earliest childhood to do what they did. Obviously games with potatoes and dragons in them also do not give a realistic idea of Medieval Europe, but nobody is claiming that they do. Well spoiler alert.
Henry is actually a bastard son of a noble Radzig, blacksmith was never his biological father. It's also Radzig that gives him knighthood. Henry would later in main story discover that Radzig is his biological father and that Radzig knew all along.

Kind of got some indication where they could be going through Thedas Calls with some assists from the comics, the Missing, and Tevinter Nights. -Tevinter: MAY deal with the Qunari threat however it is also kind of curious that despite the Qunari invasion a lot of the plot lines and teases also seem to focus around the Arlathan forest as well and as well as something strange happening so could involve the hunt for Elven artifacts and dealing with that problem might take more of a precedence then the Qunari plot. Which is interesting to because the two also seem to sort of colide as well given the Qunari is also seemingly looking into Ancient Elf Stuff and the Ben Hasrath leadership was specifically hunting for Solas in TVN. Antiva: Much like the interesting events happening there in Thedas Calls and a short story released not too long ago it was seen that the Qunari has invaded Treviso. So the Qunari plot could weirdly enough also be mainly dealt with in Antiva while Tevinter has more to do with Solas and the rest of the ANcient Elf Problem. Though much like with the above as some others have pointed out (gervaise) Trevisio is basically on the border with Tevinter and the Arlathan forest so they might've captured the city in an effort to help secure their position as they hunt for artifacts realted to helping with Solas. Anderfels: The blog mentioned that *something* is happening within the country's borders involving mysterious sand storms and the grey wardens. This is more gut feeling on my part but we have also seen Grey Warden/ Deep Road iconography which I am assuming is relted to the Anderfels in the BTS trailer they did which also would indicate to me that the Darkspawn with Red Lyrium we have seen and that crazy mouth thing could all be related to stuff that is happening thre. Rivain:...beyond what was specifically stated within the blog post following Thedas Calls, no clue.

Well for starters, not a fan of any of the implications that come with the tirle if we go by definition of the word. Chess piece: big dumb unit that only ever charges straight in or gets used as a meat shield. Bird: Vermin ugly crow that symbolizes bad luck. Rookie: Many have expressed why this isn’t good. Description: Calling a person a rook means they are a swindler or a cheat, so not thrilled at what that means for personality or story options. So we are the straight ahead type. That is the shield for the world. Because other don't see the enemy.
But the world think we bring bad Luck and doing everything wrong. And we are a nobody.
That is why we are ideal to defeat Solas.

Tevinter: I think the voice at the end of the last trailer is importent. Not sure where they going here exactly.
Rivian: There will be a seamonster and Dragon problem, as you can see in trailer and art. Why? No clue.
As for the win against Solas part: I see us get help from the executors. Because Solas fear them. As the dev. said no magic hand. So hopfully nothing that makes us special. A good Hawke or David story would be nice. And Solas isn't invincible. So let's see how creative the dev. are.

Lol, as someone who has raised crows before, they are such wonderful birds and I can't believe so many people are like "ew, vermin." They're smart, loyal, mischievous, and absolutely beautiful. I think it's a great association for a character to have. Morrigan and Leliana also have corvid bird associations, btw (Morrigan has raven hair and likes shiny things; Leliana uses ravens to send messages).
As for people wanting the new protagonist to truly be a nobody with no magical protection . . . I just can't see it. Assuming Solas is really the main villain (which who knows, he might not be ultimately), they would at least need, for example, an amulet of protection against petrification. Or any ultimate boss fight would be really short, and not in our favor. I think the protagonist will start off a nobody, but they won't end as one (which is the usual rpg protagonist trajectory anyway). However, I agree that I hope the Inquisition uses strategy and smarts too.

Really hoping we get a Saarebas origin in Dreadwolf. I'd like to have the option to willingly defect to Tevinter, in order to start a new life away from the Horrors of the Qun.

I know they are pretty smart too. It is just Rook doesn't grab me as a name. On the other hand Raven is a name I can get on board with. I called one of my Wardens Raven. She hooked up with Zevran too, so she was Raven Tabris with the Crow Zevran. Then next game our hero was called Hawke. Definitely a bird theme was going in that world state. Also, does anyone know where to find the codex on magical feathers as I can't seem to locate it now. I definitely remember it saying that Tevinter have a thing about enchanted bird feathers. I wanted to check if it was generic feathers or they made it a particular species.

Amy Evans @amypisces.bsky.social Hey @trickweekes.bsky.social
Can you help settle a debate? Is there an etymological link between "Elvhen" and "vhenan"? Or is it a coincidence/something you guys didn't think of when coming up with a language.
Totally understand if you don't want to answer.
Trick Weekes @trickweekes.bsky.social "Vhen" as a base means something like "essence of people." "Elvhen" is the ancient term for the elven people, and "vhenan" means heart, kind of the center of a person.

Trick Weekes @trickweekes.bsky.social Heard this game (DA:I free on the Epic Game Store) was pretty good! Maybe someday we'll get a sequel.
Shepherd @neolithicsheep.bsky.social Pls do not toy with our emotions like this
Especially since we know Trick is going to make us cry in game. WHEN WILL IT BE ENOUGH FOR THEM
Trick Weekes @trickweekes.bsky.social Me? "Make" you cry? All I do is offer choices.
Don't you like choices, Shep? As my good friend Imshael always says, choices help you learn who you really are.

Really hoping we get a Saarebas origin in Dreadwolf. I'd like to have the option to willingly defect to Tevinter, in order to start a new life away from the Horrors of the Qun.
Hm.... Is that the female Q mage you are referring to? Plus, that origin story is a one off, no? Plus, plus, I get a No-News-Bio vibe... ... or is that the Jose Cuervo Margarita I'm drinking?

Trick Weekes @trickweekes.bsky.socialHeard this game (DA:I free on the Epic Game Store) was pretty good! Maybe someday we'll get a sequel. Shepherd @neolithicsheep.bsky.socialPls do not toy with our emotions like this Especially since we know Trick is going to make us cry in game. WHEN WILL IT BE ENOUGH FOR THEM Trick Weekes @trickweekes.bsky.socialMe? "Make" you cry? All I do is offer choices. Don't you like choices, Shep? As my good friend Imshael always says, choices help you learn who you really are.
Got it. Installed it on Win 11... can't launch. Got it. Installed it on Win 10.... "
It may be due to the OS.... I have a 64bit version and the specs says Win 7 - 8
Good thing it was free.

Reinstalled it this week on EA play on 64bit windows 11 version and it's been launching and running buttery smooth. Try a uninstall and reinstall or it's a problem on Epic's end. I will say that the game still looks pretty good in 2024 but I can see the age of it a lot in the cutscenes. It could benefit from a next gen remaster.
