I am near the end of a playthrough with Solas, Varric, and Cassandra, and I believe I have heard all their banter. I am getting tired of Solas repeatedly asking Varric about Corriffyshit (" you fought corriffyshit?") or the Grey Wardens ("How come they are so bad at it?").
I hope DA4 will silence banter after the companions have said all they have to say rather repeatedly hearing the same banter over and over and over again.

Hmmm. That's never happened to me, and I usually have a pretty consistent party throughout the game... but I do switch them out occasionally so maybe that's why. Did banters repeat in DAO and DA2 also?

Most of the time I had some weird silence bug where they wouldn't say a thing and so I missed out on a lot of companion banter. I had no idea they even repeated.
I guess I'd prefer some toggle for those who wouldn't want to hear it. Honestly, after all the silence I endured I'd probably welcome repeat conversations.

I had the opposite problem that we would go for ages with no one saying a thing, then decide to start talking just as we are attacked by a random critter, which in a place like the Hissing Wastes is really frustrating - walk for ages in the hope of some talk, then you are trying to catch their banter whilst fending off spiders or whatever.
This only changed with the DLCs. There the companions were very chatty and I did get some repeat dialogue. What I found more annoying, though, was that some dialogue in Jaws of Hakkon did not reflect the fact that it was post Cory defeat when I played, so still discussing who might be Divine when we already knew, etc.
I think that you are right, though, and if they have exhausted all the dialogue then that should be it rather than on a continuous loop. A toggle would be the best solution though, so those players who do not mind getting repeats or want them are happy as well.

I've had all 3 situations happen. No talking at all, repeated banter between Dorian and Vivienne (like, a dozen times the same thing - I kicked Viv out at a result), and banter working correctly/finishing with no repeats afterwards.
I just hope they can get it right in the next game.
