So BioWare has said that DA4 will be a "live service" game, and that they consider the previous DA games to also have been live service games.
"Live service" is a broad term, and it can take many forms. What would you prefer to see? What would you hate to see? What role does live service gaming play in the Illuminati plot to ruin gaming forever?
Discuss.

Large infrequent would be my preference. Because it would hopefully make it easier for a smaller number of additions to have relevance to, and cohesion with the story of the base game.
I'd also tolerate frequent small updates and a multiplayer separate from the SP campaign.
Timed missions/Daily rewards?
Ugh. Hard pass.

I'm good with: big, but infrequent story DLC (like MotA, JoH) and smaller, more frequent DLC (armor or misc. packs). That's about it.

I'd want a mix of these like in FFXV or Xenoblade 2. You get small, frequent DLCs like a handful of quests or special items every month or 2, with a huge addition that gives you a new area to play in/new characters to use every 4 months or so.

Assassin's Creed is a good example of a SP RPG which incorporates a little o' everything to try to keep people playing. - Daily/Weekly challenges, new gear, and ship upgrades. - New smaller quests between larger additions. - The major DLCs are spread out over several parts. We'll have to wait and see if this formula is successful. - Community contests. This steady trickle of new content I think works for the most part (at least so far), and it looks like they'll have new content right through summer. The daily/weekly additions aren't critical in any way, you can take it or leave it, but... new stuff is still nice to have. If only the game was open to modding! I also like how Fortnite builds a mystery over time (cubes, rifts, etc.), and these live events obviously get a lot of attention. I think DA could do worse than take a page out of their playbook.

I think and want one of two forms of content.
1. That you have...well esentially large pieces of DLC but released piecemeal. 'Episodically' in other words so we can get frequent dumps of content but only make it a DLC. I suppose if Trespasser was released in three parts but that is probably a bad example.
2. Small, infrequent pieces of DLC, a quest here and there, and then a bigger expansion released for like 15 bucks or so.
I mean I imagine they will have the weekly quests or special pieces of lootboxes or something that people can do too from time to time so hopefully, now that Ubisoft is leading the way, DA 4 might not have ANY multiplayer at all. One can dream.

Oh no, anything but the new AC formula. The maps feel empty and "exploring" is just a tedious checklist. Of course the tied-to-progress microtransactions would be right up EA's alley. Well fk that, this should be a singleplayer game without always online, invade others game and all the fancy multi bs.
Bioware's strength lies with characters and story. That’s it, build on that. Give me a bigger DA2 with DAI graphics and DAO atmosphere. After that drop a Trespasser (length, content) type of dlc on a 6-8 months interval for a $20-ish something price. Maybe a Witch Hunt here and there if it's a smaller event. This way they don't have to rely on other media to fill in the blanks between games.

I was thinking about the BLADEs from Xenoblade 2 specifically when I mentioned characters, which are basically talking, moving weapons - if that makes sense. In Dragon Age's case, I think just adding more content to characters already in the base game (both party members and key NPCs) would be ideal.

As long as the initial offering is substantial enough, I can live with all of those options. After all, it's not as if I can't ignore a "mission of the week" or a "community event". I've been doing that in Anno 2070 and it presents no problem. However, I am concerned that additions don't feel like part of the game. I recall this being a problem in POE2:Deadfire. It wasn't that the additions weren't good on their own, but they were set in completely separate locations and about one of them I didn't feel the protagonist had any reason to be there. So: give me new quests, but also integrate the rationale for doing them into the main story if you can. In DAI "Jaws of Hakkon" felt most naturally integrated and "Descent" didn't. A continuation of the main story is of course fine, as long as it doesn't force you to lose in several areas at once like Trespasser did.

Hm, since the poll asks the question specifically for DA4, I went with "large, infrequent additions to content". I assume that this is what was previously referred to as "story DLC" or "expansion". If I like the story and characters I'm more than happy to pay for more.
I would hate if it had a premium currency store. I am fine with those in free to play MP games, but certainly not in an AAA SP game that I bought for an AAA price.
If the combat turns out to be fun I actually might enjoy a multiplayer component, and in that context I wouldn't mind all those other things not mentioned yet. I enjoy them in Warframe. I wouldn't want them in the SP game though.

Large & infrequent would be the best in my book, give me a massive single-player campaign with lots of replayability & I won't even notice the time between content drops. Or, as Hrungr suggested, the AC:O route, it's pretty much un-invasive, just a notification when you fire up the game that a new [insert powerful enemy] is available & that's about it. So something like that in my opinion.

Large, infrequent, substantive content naturally. But honestly, I can live with all of this. Daily challenges or other bits of small busywork isn't something I'm interested in but as long as I can ignore it I don't care that it's there. The best of all worlds would be a game like DAI which is almost entirely offline with some nice meaty DLC, the meh of all worlds would be including some or all of these things in an otherwise solid game and a horror shit show of all worlds would be that suggestion by Schreier.

Large, infrequent is my favourite, but after playing Assassins Creed Odyssey and Fallout 76 there are other ones I'd be happy to have. The timed missions with significant rewards in ACO are a lot of fun and small, frequent changes are good because a dev can adapt or introduce things that players want more quickly. I can't really see premium currency coming to DA, but you never know.

I’m going to spitball an idea here. What if we had a multiplayer mode that yielded rewards in the SP campaign?
To be clear, I’m not talking about Mass Effect 3’s multiplayer affecting Galactic Readiness. That was not a great idea. I’m talking about something similar to the rewards you get for playing with Trials enabled in DAI. Completing missions in multiplayer would result in unique items, crafting components and maybe furnishings for your headquarters. Something inconsequential, like a trophy on the wall.
As for the multiplayer, it would feature a completely separate character from your main PC. And like DAI, you could buy lootboxes to upgrade your multiplayer character.
