So about 4 years ago the book "Dragon Age: Last Flight" came out and... well, I don't know what the policy is here about spoilers but it revealed a lot about Griffons, their place in the Grey Warden order, how they died out, and how they may one day return. But I'm guessing by that time Inquisition was too far along in development to even think of giving us flying mounts.
Flash forward to today, and Bioware is currently developing Dragon Age 4, while also waist deep in developing "Anthem", a game that makes heavy use of flying, hovering, and environments with a lot of verticality to them.
So maybe it's wishful thinking on my part, but... what if we finally get to fly on griffons in DA4?

On the plus side, they certainly seem to be building towards having griffons return in the game. But unless they plan on developing some giant open-world game for DA4/DA5, it wouldn't make much sense to have them as personal mounts. Perhaps in cutscenes or for a specific event/playground in the game.

I am NOT over their abolute butchering of phoenixes. had they ever made them out to be anything but a fire lizard? or...? No, phoenixes had never been mentioned before, to my knowlwdge. But that doesn't matter. Words have meanings, that's how language works. I can't stop them from slapping whatever word they want on their lame creations, and yeah, it's a fantasy world and technically they aren't even speaking English at all, but a) BioWare IS using English words to express their fantasy concepts, which creates certain expectations, and Thedas ALREADY has a name for fire lizards, it's "dragon", not to mention all the other perfectly serviceable terms for fire lizards that already exist, like "salamander" and finally, c) How many more kinds of fire lizards do we fucking need?

I, too, would like DA4 to be the game where the answer to 'does this game have griffons in it?' is finally 'yes!'
(After almost ten years and ten completed characters, and I still have no idea how that conversation goes if your Warden does act like a griffon-obsessed five-year-old.)

Well Tevinter is a very large country so having a griffon to fly you around would cut down on journey times. So it is possible that instead of a horse or other land based mount, next game we will get a griffon. Alternatively saving the griffons from whatever is going on at Weishauppt, if they bring back that particular plot line, would be one of our quests.

dunno what I picture that in my head raising the tone of their voice I really hope we get to see griffons somewhere down the line, it would so cool flying in one of those

Bleh, totally uninterested in griffons. I didn't bother with the ground mounts in DAI, either, and more or less only appreciated them for the headcanon aspect, and how that added to the verisimilitude of the setting. I've done flying mounts, of all shapes and sizes, in World of Warcraft. The novelty quickly wore off and it became just another mode of transportation. Solas said they're extinct. Solas obviously hadn't read Last Flight.

True, but he's not wrong. They did die out. There were eggs sitting around waiting, so no, they didn't die out. I guess you could say that the species had been put in stasis.

I'm personally still salty about not getting to see the rachni fight the reapers in ME:3.
but thats beside the point: Griffons are back in the hands of the Grey Wardens but only in a very limited capacity. Most of them are probably still hatchlings!
But by the time the next game takes place...

If BW doesn't just handwave this stuff aside, then yeah there'd be a number of things to consider. - How long do they take to mature & reproduce? Lifespan? - How many generations must be protected before you could risk the loss of any griffons? - No one's trained griffons in centuries, I'm assuming it'd take time to sort that out, even with ancient Warden manuals. - The timeline for DA4?

- How many generations must be protected before you could risk the loss of any griffons? To me this is the biggest hurdle. The end of Last Flight has them find a clutch of unhatched eggs. The babies would have to be cared for and protected for several generations before anyone should ever entertain the possibility of riding them into battle. Doing so would be highly irresponsible.
