I, too, would like DA4 to be the game where the answer to 'does this game have griffons in it?' is finally 'yes!' (After almost ten years and ten completed characters, and I still have no idea how that conversation goes if your Warden does act like a griffon-obsessed five-year-old.) That is my favorite Warden convo, I think is the most self-inserted reaction I did in DAO So does it have griffons in it or not?!
dunno what I picture that in my head raising the tone of their voice I really hope we get to see griffons somewhere down the line, it would so cool flying in one of those LOL sorry you fly on a griffon hehe not in

Doing so would be highly irresponsible. That's how you know someone will do it. I'm not expecting the player to care about such things, given some of the choices people make, for the arbitrary reasons they make them, but the devs have control over that part of the story.

I meant that there's bound to be some irresponsible character in Thedas who thinks it's a swell idea.

Griffons?

I'm personally still salty about not getting to see the rachni fight the reapers in ME:3. but thats beside the point: Griffons are back in the hands of the Grey Wardens but only in a very limited capacity. Most of them are probably still hatchlings! But by the time the next game takes place... If BW doesn't just handwave this stuff aside, then yeah there'd be a number of things to consider. - How long do they take to mature & reproduce? Lifespan? - How many generations must be protected before you could risk the loss of any griffons? - No one's trained griffons in centuries, I'm assuming it'd take time to sort that out, even with ancient Warden manuals. - The timeline for DA4? Well if there's anything BioWare excels at, it's ignoring the world-changing developments introduced in their own supplementary media.

The thing is, with Eluvians going to different worlds, there very well could be griffons existing in another world, all it would take is the foresight of a Grey Warden and Elf mage who was aware of how Eluvians work to maybe sneak a few clutches of Griffon eggs to a new world to see if they could be raised there... or even have them be raised on an uncharted island or something. No one's been known to train griffons in Thedas for centuries but that doesn't mean it hasn't been done.

Maybe it's a psychic connection deal, like in Dragonriders of Pern. I breathed this series as a tween/teen. Why I picked up Dragon Age in the first place.

I think Morrigan said they do, and that she stayed in one of the other worlds for a while to hide from Flemeth. That said, she’s famously Wrong About Elven Stuff (and also about Flemeth), so maybe she just spurted out onto the northern continent and thought it was another dimension.

Yeah, cause like, how would we know? I guess maybe if the sky was polka-dotted and the gravity was different. Though that could just be the Fade at that point. Hm, that’s the problem with having a Fade in your reality. You never know for sure if you’re actually in a new dimension, or the Fade pretending to be a new dimension.

And considering that humans and qunari both originally hail from some mysterious elsewhere that may or may not be the same place, the landscape of other continents could be so different as to be unrecognisable. After all, different climates, geological formations, plant life, wildlife and cultures all developed independently of each other on the separate continents of Earth.

That does raise the interesting possibility that Morrigan is the reason Those Across the Sea are suddenly interested in the southern continent.

Or into an underground cave system like the Wellspring (where the Titan was) in The Descent. But yes, Morrigan did say they went to other worlds too...and we know they go into areas in the fade and the crossroads. There are a lot of areas that could exist that the people of Thedas don't know about and where someone could raise griffons.

When and where does Morrigan say the eluvians go to other worlds?
In Witch Hunt, she says the eluvian takes you "To another place, beyond this world and beyond the Fade." Which to me, pretty much describes the Crossroads we travel in DAI - it's a place in between the "real world" and the Fade.
In DAI, she confirms that the crossroads are where she went for safety at the end of Witch Hunt. And when she takes you through the eluvian, she says "Not all the mirrors lead back to our world." The Inquisitor can then ask her to clarify what she means, and Morrigan replies "Places between, like this one."
Anyway, in neither of those conversations does she ever say the eluvians take you to other worlds.

Well if there's anything BioWare excels at, it's ignoring the world-changing developments introduced in their own supplementary media. That hasn’t been the case with Dragon Age. I can’t speak for their other properties.
