The Plantronics 800HD looks identical to my RIG 500 Pro. I love my 500Pro set. Very comfortable and again sound is real good. They do block a lot of outside noise. I would buy these again. I never tried the others so can't comment on them. One thing I will say. I'd rather buy in store so I can try them on if displayed. Nothing worse then buying headphones and find they hurt the ears. Thanks for your input Kelwing. I'll definitely take that into consideration. And I agree about the in-store purchase...I wouldn't buy something like that online unless I was in some way 200%.... (ie after I had seen them in-store, and found them cheaper online at Amazon) But something like this you definitely need to "try before you buy"

Something else to think about when making your decision. 4 years of Destiny and unless I was partied up with friends or clan members, I can't think of ever using or hearing someone use them when playing solo or playing the open world solo-able stuff. Also, unless it was the actual endgame Raid content, most of the chat was idle banter, not game specific.
While not directed at anyone specifically, do you have kids, what age, still need to keep in touch with the real world stuff in the background? Just types of stuff I picked up on while playing with friends that had families.
I'm also on PS4, but even having a couple of 100 to 200 dollar pairs of headphones, I found the cheap little earbud that came with my playstation the most comfortable and used it for 90% of my partied up game chat time. Think I only switched over to my headphones with surround sound for pvp content.

I've used Steelseries for years, currently have the Arctis 5. I've been very happy with them, they have (to my ears) excellent sound, and the mic is very clear. The microphone mute, and volume dial is on the left can, which is very handy. The Chatmix dial allows you to dial down the game sound to make it easier to hear your team mates, or vice versa if you're just social chatting, but want to hear the game audio better for a moment. It's USB connection, and the ear cushions are replaceable with leather or velour ones if you don't like the AirWeave ones they come with.
I find them very comfy, though the ski style headband took a little getting used to. Now, once I get them settled into place, I can forget they're there. They aren't sound cancelling, you can hear what's going on around you, but it is muffled.
I can't really comment on the others. I've never used Logitech headsets, but I've heard good things about them, and the Anthem team uses them on their livestreams.

Best bang for buck headset I've found is the 7.1 Logictech G633. But if using mic, be sure to go into Logitech Gaming Software app under levels and turn down sidetowns to remove the white noise feedback. Also don't forget to turn on 7.1 in the software app too. - Headset also works for PS4, but without the drivers that can be downloaded on PC via gaming app, it don't sound so good on PS4. - Love listening to music on this headset too. Don't recall music sounding so good before. - Seems very durable (can't say this for other prior 2 headsets), as I've accidentally sat on it a few times. - The micro USB connections are usually problematic when it comes to snug connections, but haven't had any real issues with this and seems pretty snug thanks to molding around it. Though if your shoulder come up pretty close to ear for you personally, it may conflict by nudging that connection loose every now and then. (I choose a wired headset due to having a wireless, the TB Stealth headset, that microwaves my head into a balloon real good) - It's also very comfortable with enough depth for your ears to fit in without pressing against inside (for other headsets had to provide extra padding along inside to raise this depth).

Good morning, Terminator. Thank you for your thorough reply to my post. Yes Bestbuy had that exact model on display at my local store when I was there yesterday. I tried it on and it was very comfortable (though heavy...roughly the same weight as my Sennheiser set that I use for the TV)....But unfortunately I was unable to hear how it sounded because they had not supplied power to the dock where the demo sets were and the store rep didn't have a clue as to what to do about that.
But again, I am unsure if at this point I can justify spending money on a gaming set just to play ANTHEM when I already have two other sets that are perfectly in good condition and work great. Almost seems like a waste of money. But every time I jump into ANTHEM with other players, I do feel like I am missing out on a core aspect of gameplay that I would like to be able to contribute to.
I just can't make up my mind; I'm terrible at decision-making and even worse when it comes to spending money...especially on myself.

Just listen to your conscience/gut feeling. Jimini Cricket is telling me 'don't waste your money frivolously'. But there have been times when I really do feel as though not only am I missing out on a key aspect of gameplay, but also not fully contributing to the gameplay experience, by not being able to communicate with people I play with. It's awkward (gaming-wise and socially) to randomly jump, walk or fly towards someone who just dropped in and have the Javelin just seemingly 'stare' at them without any kind of communication. Then one of us flies off and the other person is left silently wondering What's wrong? Or Where are you going? Or if we all know the mission objectives (for example, the Stronghold)....I am unable to communicate my thoughts, ideas, or say "Hey! Need some help over here, I'm down and I can't move!" if I should be shot down, which happened 4x yesterday. Luckily for me, two guys always came to my rescue eventually. But if I had a proper headset, I'd be able to communicate to everyone right away that I'd needed assistance.
I dunno, in a game like this it's always nice to be able to communicate ideas, strategies with each other so everyone is in the loop....Rather than silently flying, jumping around and not knowing what each other is thinking. Maybe I did something that another player didn't like or thought was pointless.....I wouldn't know that unless I had a headset and heard him say "why did you just do that?" or perhaps more appropriately, "what the hell, man?!" I mean, maybe people are thinking that and I just don't know it. In that case, it would be nice to be able to apologize for any missteps made during missions right away. There's so many reasons why in playing game like this I now see I need a headset with a mic.
I'm just really torn about actually spending the money, because I've always been raised to save as much as I can and not spend money needlessly.

No need for stress! Anthem won't be out for a couple more weeks, and a mic is only really necessary for higher difficulty group content. It's probably a good idea to get one eventually for Anthem, especially if it would make you more comfortable. Headsets often come on sale, so take some time, find the one(s) you like, and watch for a good deal. As another option, if you've already got a headset you like, you could get a standalone mic, like the m.bestbuy.ca/en-CA/product/blue-microphones-blue-microphones-snowball-ice-usb-microphone-78908q-1974/10197278 They often pick up stuff like keyboard noise, but push to talk would take care of that.

EB … listen to your self (like Terminator said), get decent, but reasonably priced stand-alone mic and use push-to-talk (like Talon said).
You'll be good to go.
On Anthem, the default key is T. From other games, I'm used to L CTRL, so I just rebound the keys to reflect that. Either works and after a short time, muscle memory kicks in.
Someday, you may decide to go for one of the nicer headset/mic combos … but like you said, if the only game you are playing that you think needs a mic is Anthem … that can be a lot of money for just one game.
So a separate mic to go with your current headsets seems like the best move for now. And like Talon said, stuff goes on sale … just keep an eye out, be patient and jump on the opportunity (like a Husky on a squeaky toy) if you see one of the ones you want.

Keep your current headphones and just buy one of these antlionaudio.com. I use one with my Sennheiser 558's and they work on both PC and console and they offer both wired and wireless options. I see having a good set of real headphones, being better than having a "gaming" headset. You will have a better overall soundscape, suited for everything from movies, music and games, rather than a gaming headset, whose settings are usually tweaked specifically for gaming, often making them lackluster for other applications.

This is the one I use too...really nice...I like the flip down mic for quick chat if necessary otherwise just keep it up so I'm not annoying others. Probably overkill for people who play limited online games though. It comes down personal finances and preferences. I tend to go for lasting quality but I'm also pretty anal about keeping my stuff in good condition.

As someone who wears glasses, I hate how uncomfortable it feels - at times - wearing my Turtle Beach headset; on top of the fact it makes my ears hot.
I was recommended a pair of headsets but can't remember their brand name. I do know the had an abbreviation for their model though (A10 I believe). Apparently, they're really nice for people who wear glasses.

Dude......THat's amazing! I never even knew that these existed. I think you just solved my dilema! Thank you! I'll definitely check these out....Look like the perfect solution! And yes, they are high quality mics. As good or better than any mainstream gaming headset. I use the modmic 5. The wireless one just got released. Hi again....I checked out the link and also read some reviews on Amazon.ca....Have to say, mixed reviews at best: Some love it, others say while they sound "OK" or "Great!", they broke in various ways, within a relatively short period of time. How woud you rate the build quality (not in comparision to a full headset, but rather for what they are)....Do they break easily? Do you see, or have you had experience with a modmic breaking within only a few months?
Curious. Because that really does sound like an amazing option. ANd I'd rather fork out 65 to 100 dollars than 2 to 3 hundred dollars, so I'm leaning towards this...provided they don't break easily.
Thanks again!

Yeah 2-3 hundred is way excessive...consider the Logictech G633 at around 100$ if you want high quality sound at a reasonable price. There's a bit of a learning curve compared to simpler options but probably nothing you can't deal with...and the software kind of just works you through that. Just my 2-cents.

If this is the ModMic, which I think it is... There isn't much to it, and I am confused by "build quality". It is a piece of microphone wire soldered to a flexible piece of metal with a microphone at the end. It looks... Like a piece of wire. There is no "build quality" to admire other than a clean heatshrink job. It is a microphone, it works well. If you have a good set of wired cans, use some velcro or zip ties or e-tape, and loom the mic wire with your headphone wire. Install sticky back think/magnet (can't recall which it is) and play your game. It is simple, it works great, for wired headset I definitely recommend it as a better option than desktop microphone.

Install sticky back think/magnet (can't recall which it is) and play your game. you don't need to do any of that. The modmic 5 comes with with wrap, like what you use for PC wires. Just heatshrink the ends.

I know this has been mostly been related to Anthem, but it does apply more generally as well. There's a new thread for peripherals in the General Games section, how would everyone feel about cross linking or migrating some of the content over there, for a broader audience? bsn.boards.net/thread/17067/gaming-peripheral-recommendations-thread
