Let's face it, everyone's job sucks.
Even if you are one of those rare and lucky souls who enjoy your job, your job still sucks. Wouldn't you rather be at home getting some serious gaming in?
Even if you don't have a job, are a student, or a youngling still in the bosom of secondary education; at some point you're going to have to think about a job, and it's going to suck.
My job sucks, and for it to unsuck several changes would have to be made. I'll explain more later.
For now - does your job suck? Here's your chance to whine, whinge, moan and bitch about it to your heart's content....

Well, in general my job does not suck at all, but I guess no one's job is completely free of things that do, in fact, suck.
For me it's dealing with data protection laws. My department does studies with medical data, which includes a lot of personal data which are subject to the EU's extremely restrictive protection laws for personal data. While I agree with those laws and very much support them, implementation creates an unbelievable amount of bureaucratic bullshit - and I'm the one responsible for dealing with it in my department. I like almost everything else about my job, but this part I hate, simply because reality is hardly as simple as would be required to implement the deceptively simple-sounding laws with ease.
One example: A research project located at my department spins off another reseach project not covered by the data protection declaration of the original. It's done mainly by a person employed by a different university, but who is a guest scientist at ours, who needs data from a different department of my university as well as ours, and has a work computer at home where she wants to do the actual research. In such a setup, a simple question like "who is actually responsible for data protection in this project?" can drive you up the wall, to say nothing about "Can we allow her to put the data on her work computer at home", and the followup "I don't know. Who the heck knows this stuff?".
So yeah, the reality of having to implement the EU's General Data Protection Regulation in a multi-centre research environment, that sucks.

So yeah, the reality of having to implement the EU's General Data Protection Regulation in a multi-centre research environment, that sucks. Oh dear, I can imagine. I used to work in the field of clinical studies as well, but it seems I jumped ship early enough. (completely different reasons, though) Well, my job in general doesn't suck, especially not most of my colleagues. It's 80% internal friction between departments, which is mostly inherent to the system itself, that's giving me headaches. My company grew too quickly in a very short amount of time. The consequence is that the same things are done by different subsidiaries in a slightly different way, which wouldn't be necessary at all, but there is no central position to oversee things, or even give advice on how to avoid this kind of inefficiency and/or boost synergies.
I know it's old, but this explains it pretty well:

being retired on medical grounds doesnt suck, well not unless SWMBO is around and then only in a good way (most of the time) theres so many books available and I still havent played even half of my steam catalogue of games (those bargain bundles you buy for the one game cos it was cheaper than just buying the game you wanted and gave you 40 more) not to mention theres so much you can read online about just about any subject, then theres time to cook (I pretend I cant clean though to make the rest of think I need them) and of course theres the fact that my entire family didnt know I could cook... I spent 16 years with them all despairing every time I had to cook making nasty 10 minute multi can surprise becasue I had no time to do a proper dinner when I was working and running around after everyone else... so theres that as well even despite the few downsides to my old job it didnt suck, oh it had its days and there were times I thoroughly hated it (like stuck out in some shithole knee deep in wet snow half frozen and counting the days till my tour was over) but even then as soon as you got back in base there was beer, hot food and camaraderie so all was forgiven until the next day

I like my job, despite the brutal nature & low pay What’s it like at EA? Or CDPR? Probably most AAA game devs actually. Anyway, I like my job although there's certain aspects of it that sucks, because for the most part I'm socially awkward. Going to the occasional regional center meeting in a room on lock down probably takes years off my life due to stress. There's also some corruption my employer has tried to fight (will not go into detail) and that's an uphill battle that can end up making you feel pretty powerless. I wish I can win lotto so I can become a crazy hermit and tell people to stay off my lawn.

All things considered my job does not suck. At first it may sound like a sucky boring job, being stuck in a boring office all day long having to deal with idiotic customers and sales departments, and yes, its well below my qualifications but hey - its warm and dry in here, there are no health risks, there is no bad smells, its not physically exhausting work so I have enough energy to serious weight lifting and I earn enough money to even afford some hobbies.
Does not sound so bad at all!

Here goes:My day begins as follows: - Get up at 4:45am - Walk to bus stop. - 20 minute bus ride (actually the nicest part of the daily commute, because it's very early, and the bus is not busy) - Train station. Wait of between 10 and 35 minutes for the train, depending on how late it is. This varies from day-to-day. The longest delay is typically around 35 minutes, the shortest around ten. The average delay time is around 15 minutes. Trains in the UK are not like the trains of other countries. Busy commuter routes are typically run by a kind of train called a Pacer. This is an early 1980s-era rolling stock originally created as bus chassis, and later adapted for use on railways. The carriages have only the most rudimentary suspension, and tend to be very noisy, smelly, cramped, uncomfortable and freezing cold in winter. A commuter 'Pacer' train typically consists of two carriages, and by mid-journey is filled absolutely to capacity, with commuters jammed in like sardines in a tin. At this point I have four options: 1) Sit on an unoccupied seat (possible, because my station is early in the route, and the train is not yet packed) 2) Sit next to someone else 3) Stand in the aisles. The seats are laid out in a 3-2 configuration, meaning that one side of the train has seating designed to hold three people sitting abreast, the other side has seating designed for two people. All are narrow, cramped, uncomfortable with minimal leg room. All smell strongly of excrement due to the nearby broken toilet. Results of 1): I eventually end up with a massive great big, burly 'alpha male-style' man crammed in next to me for the duration of the journey. These 'alpha mongrels' are absolutely obsessed with the notion of claiming as much territory as humanly possible, and do their very best to physically occupy as much room on the seat as they are able - spreading their legs impossibly wide in the mistaken belief that they are suffering from elephantiasis of the testicles. I end up squished like a bug against the window, unable to move, with the oxygen slowly crushed from my lungs - while the very essence of maleness, that absolute, testosterone-soaked nexus of the human male inflicted upon every cell of my being for almost two hours. Results of 2): I end up with the same 'alpha mongrel' standing in the aisle above my position on the seat. As the train becomes busier, and the squeeze intensifies, his big, manly backside inches gradually closer to my face until only a bare millimeter separates us. Results of 3): I am the filling in an 'alpha mongrel' sandwich. Compressed and compacted, like a junked car in an autocrusher. NEVER, BUT NEVER, BUT NEVER, BUT NEVER - EVEN IF YOU HAVE LOST THE USE OF YOUR LEGS SIT IN THE THREE-PERSON SEAT.Death is preferable to spending two hours sat down in a deathly sandwich combination of options 1 and 3, but this time with absolutely no hope of escape. The train rattles onward, stopping at every station, and gradually taking on crushing hordes of humanity. The journey is supposed to take around an hour and forty five minutes, but typically, given the delays it takes just under two hours. Finally, bruised, battered, covered head to toe in male human pheromones that no amount of washing can ever remove, we arrive in the city. Beaten, broken, humiliated and defeated. my spirit compacted like a mote we disembark. All that remains is the seventeen-minute trudge to the office.......within which the true horror begins.

I'm currently unemployed, because I have a scholarship on my master's degree on comunnication and information, which is going to end this year.
Afterwards, I'm not sure what I'll do. I'm a librarian, and I'm divided between working at a school library (Working with education is something interesting, but it's hard work and low pay) or a library that would pay better, but it would be utterly boring with a lot of burocratic work

Well, three things I have to say about your comment First: You're talking about your own reality. Reality in brazilian schools is quite different. The law says every school must have a physical library, and every library must have a librarian. Even so, librarians also work in digital libraries, they aren't run by just anybody. Second: You seem to misunderstand what a librarian does. A librarian doesn't do only "desk job", so no, it's not a "dying trade". Even digital libraries are run by librarians. Librarians catalog, categorize and index all the books in the library, which is crucial for their recovery in a database. Third: Libraries aren't just about physical books either. It's also a place for activities (especially school libraries), to relax, to use computers, and to study. There are other important things besides books.

It's also a place for activities (especially school libraries), to relax, to use computers, and to study. There are other important things besides books. yeah sure, each country is different hence why I stated clearly form the outset "round here".... as to needing a librarian to run a digital library, I disagree, amazon has been running theres for several years (kindle unlimited subscription system to borrow books) and its completely automated, the authors decide what (if anything) they want to let be borrowed, the computers do the rest, and after you setup the program you dont really need a person involved in the process at the local level, maybe a couple of programmers in central office to do updates to the system or respond to any customer problems... a librarian is a special kind of person who organises and oversees the running of a library, making people necessary in the building where physical books are held, but not so much when its just a file server people can connect too... the central library doesnt even need a librarian since the ISBN can be issued by a computer... that librarians are put in those positions only goes to show how unnecessary they are to wider society, ISBN registration clerks dont need the ability to fix books or the knowledge to store them correctly, but librarians get that job anyway becasue at least it will keep them employed... I also think this is actually a sad state of affairs I mean theres something special about book research and reading a physical book, never mind the knowledge of how to maintain and correctly store different types of books, most people dont even know how to update a manual or change pages in them properly, its one of the many things that were taught in my school if you volunteered to work in the library (which I did purely because I was a nerd and thats where the computers were, doing that stuff was also interesting and gave me something to do when everyone else was outside freezing or getting rained on)

Ugh, even after telling you what a librarian does, you continue to show your ignorance, I won't waste my breath. maybe in your country they do something different in mine a librarian organises the physical books the digital stuff is done by computer programmer, the databases are created by the programmer and any data entry clerk can fill in the spaces, the authors fill out the paperwork and a cross check program determines if its a legitimate work or a copy of something that already exists, after which its granted an ISBN, database appended file code granted the "book" is then shoved into the file server and copied to "lending devices" with or without a time lock, some devices auto extend the borrowing time others charge a fee to the account, some you pay a fee in advance and just get as many books as you want, you just have to download them from the intranet in the building... other services are offered on a paid for basis and again 90% of them dont require a librarian just some shop clerk of some kind or other, my local library has 2 librarians and both of them exclusively perform restorations of old books and you have to book an appointment to see them there more historical archivists than anything else, and they dont really have a job any more since we dont have physical books in the library.... you probably think a digital library is just the lending and stock database instead of those poxy cards in the index boxes.. would be nice if they were so kids actually understood how things work and how to look stuff up when they dont have a web search on hand... many happy hours I spent whiling away time in a library researching stuff for projects....

I've got a couple of interviews on the horizon. Another contact, though, gave me an uneasy feeling. I got a text from them at the same time I was being called. Also email message through indeed.com. Then it happened again the next day. My gut says to stay away. When I ignore my gut things tend to go sideways. Pseudo-science supports me (sorry, but more and more I'm finding I don't trust psychology overall): Your Gut Feeling Is Way More Than Just A Feeling: The Science Of Intuition Off-Topic:Yes, I'm making use of what I think is pseudo-science. If it were, as intended, something to help boost you up and send you on your way, I might find it has some value. As a lifelong practice? No, sorry, sounds like a moneymaking scam. I know people who think they need therapists because - and I'm not kidding at all - they have uncomfortable feelings. Worse, there's no resolution to the problem they came for. I'm sure this part belongs in some other thread but here it is!
