I'm surprised we haven't had one of these before. I know of at least a few MTG players on here (myself, Lady Artifice, Giant Ambush Beetle,mattig89ch), so I figured I'd go ahead and make this thread to discuss all things MTG: gameplay, lore, art, etc. Veterans and beginners alike are welcome.
Some starting points of discussion: Which of the ravnica guilds is your favorite? Do you have a preferred playstyle or archetype? Which card(s) from the new set interests you?

I have three angel decks. It's a problem.
Um, I love Selesnya style wise, though I also have a weird soft spot for the Golgari. Something about things being monstrous and beautiful at the same time. I just love how the guilds balance altogether, though. I'd have a deck for each if I could. Except maybe Gruul. If I'm going big monsters, I look to Naya.

Dimir is my favorite guild because Lazav is awesome. One of my main decks is Dimir and has a "steal all your stuff" theme. Another main deck is a mono black Lich's Mastery lifegain control deck. The deck I started with though was mono green stompy with resilient threats like strangleroot geist and troll ascetic.

I like Orzhov. I built black/white decks before the guilds even existed, now with the nice dual B/W cards from those sets my mutiplayer deck has gotten much more feasable, especially with Teysa and Ghost Council. Its partly Orzhiov / Angels and Demons with tons of mana artifacts. Its surprisingly agile and my fourth best deck after mono black demons, mono artifact and treefolk G/B.
Speaking of treefolk, its probably my favorite deck right now.

I haven't actually played for a few years now. I still have my old decks, I just don't have anyone to play them with.
I do kinda miss it, tbh.
I have an artifact deck (loved playing with that deck), a black/red vampire deck (it either worked perfectly, or not at all), a green deck for stupid large creatures, a white deck for angelic stuff, and a green/white deck consisting of almost entirely humans, ghosts for when the humans died, and 1 angel that boots spirit creatures.
Keep in mind, all these decks are out of date. As I never bothered to update them.

It's still in beta and it's only got more recent cards, but it's a good way to get your magic fix when there's no one around to play the physical version with.

I think I delight too much in my physical collection to fully embrace playing on a digital format. I revel in all my pretty cards like a dragon with it's treasure. It's the same reason I don't love doing draft style games with someone else's cards all that much.

This is making me want to play with my Orzhov deck now, though. I named it Un-dark Ascension, and I love how viciously bureaucratical it is.

Me too, playing online and playing in real life is dramatically different, the latter is always much more fun, as is owning real physical cards. But I do beta testing of my future decks online, that practice has saved me the trouble of buying cards for a deck that turns out to be only great in my brain.

But they are so over my level in terms of knowledge and cards, that its not even fun to watch. I have no idea what they're planning, or what the cards do 90% of the time. Turns it from a fun game, to something they play competitively.

Turns it from a fun game, to something they play competitively. Get MTG Forge. Its a free program featuring nearly all cards. You can assemble a deck and then test it against the AI, which is pretty good most of the time. No pressure! Here is the interface, me with my (terribly cumbersome and slow) token deck playing against a random mono green deck.

Thanks for the program recommendation!

I tried my new no-creature deck and it works really well, it won every single time - against mono green Elf decks, white lifegain, red/blue/black sorcery decks etc., and quite comfortably as well. And the main goal to annoy the heck out of the opponent also was easily reached. Unfortunately I have to admit the deck is really boring to play as it is incredibly repetitive.

Had lots of fun in MTG forge. I put my Demon Deck against my Holy Angel deck. (Me playing angels) I destroyed his attacking creatures, he destroyed mine. It went on like that for ages till he outran my destruction spells with his demons. Luckily I got story circle that let me prevent damage from a color of my choice in exchange for mana. I also drew Blazing Archon so he could no longer attack me, but I couldn't attack him either. In the end my opponent lost because he ran out of cards. Both decks exist in physical from of course, but I never fought against one of them.
