This was an article from Bleeding Cool. I can't help but wonder if this is a result of constant reboots of the entire DCU. Way back in the mid-80s, DC decided to streamline things to turn a vast multiverse into a single universe. Results were okay but then DC spent a lot of time restoring things that fans really enjoyed. Infinity, Inc., a book I had been enjoying, flat out didn't work in the new timeline.
Then they made another change with Zero Hour. Another with the New 52. Another with Final Crisis. Another with Flashpoint. The books have also gotten continually darker. These sorts of changes make DC less of the fun books to be had in the past and more grim and grittier. I think people are getting tired of it and tired of not knowing when the next reboot is coming.
DC needs to slow down and assess what's working. Though I have zero interest in the post-Flashpoint DCU, I might care a little more if things got lighter. I don't need to read a book that kills off Speedy and Kid Flash for the sake of shock value. Kid Flash in particular was brought back because fans demanded it. Sorry, people, but Wally West was a better Flash than Barry Allen had ever been. Wally actually spent more time as Flash than Barry had up until the reboot.
DC needs to decide what it's about and stick to it. Another reboot won't make for a better DCU. It's like taking the ingredients for a salad and shaking them up over and over again to try to get something different. Make what's there better rather than change everything for the quick boost in sales.
Tbh, I believe media in general is loses any sort of originality. Yes, similar themes are always going to pop up. There are only so many themes out there. The problem is all the reboots of movies and television programs. An entire lack of original thought. This is what's happening with DC Comics. At least Marvel more or less keeps things the same, usually only making tweaks rather than changing everything. They're also more successful which says something.
