I had no idea where to put this, so here it is.
If your Xbox One, or Xbox One X (haven't heard if it effects "S" as well) looks like it has been bricked with a previously-known hardware error that causes a black screen after or during bootup - don't worry! It's not your machine (except by coincidence.) It's actually an Xbox Live issue.
Xbox Live's service is currently borked, and is borking people's machines along with it. The good news is that it's temporary. You can restore functionality by going offline. If your login automatically connects to your wifi, you'll have to disable the wifi long enough to set the Xbox to boot offline. If you reconnect, the problem will immediately recur, so it's offline-only until MS addresses it.
The issue is not currently resolved as of 2:45 p.m. EST, but they are rolling back the service changes that they believe caused the problem. I'm checking back periodically, and I'll update this if it looks like it's fixed.
Edit: It has been fixed.

I'm seeing people saying that it's been working again for about five minutes, but there isn't anything official from Microsoft yet. I haven't tested it myself.

It has supposedly been resolved, but I haven't tested it yet. I'm about to.
