It was probably scheduled for fall release before they rebooted it into an online-only looter shooter. Anyway this is yet again pointlessly confusing nonsense from this game. Why try to reinvent the wheel? Just have guilds/clans! Also in a way it's pretty much another ripoff of Destiny's clans, with D2 awarding you loot when people in your clan accomplish things. I don't play MMO's, but I always thought being in a clan gave rewards and benefits. Doesn't Warframe have benefits to clan systems? I remember the Dojo system, but I never joined a clan and I stopped playing once I got to Saturn. In anthem you get coin not loot, loot would've been nice. This is the equivalent of getting glimmer for your clan doing the nightfall. Lol

From the description in the game I got that it was more an aggregate of your favorites, people on your friends list, and people you played with, taking the top 5 earners from that pool and calculating the total from there. Why would you need a guild on top of alliances, otherwise? They could just use alliances as step one of the guild-building process, bringing in guild halls and bonuses to existing alliances. Then again, maybe I completely misunderstood and you'll have to "belong" to an alliance. Wouldn't that imply some sort of acceptance into the alliance and then some way to boot people, though? I'm finding the whole thing pretty unclear.

Well, poo. The very first thing I was gonna do when launching the game Feb. 22nd was get Guild BSN started on PS4, then move on to actually playing. Had to wade through a lot of salt to get to this essential point. The headline isn't NO GUILDs, the headline is FREE COIN FOR ZERO EFFORT! Calling all mods, SofaJockey , DragonRacer , @grinch : can we get permathreads, or maybe whole subs, made for Alliance formation? We'll need one each for PC, PS4 and Xbox. Might consider combining with LFG, but on the other hand, people may already have a group, but want to pad out their Alliances with BSN members. As currently formulated, there's no downside to padding out, so maybe all we need is a single thread per platform with people posting their Origin/EA account name (or whatever is required to be added to an Alliance), and we can just have one big one.
Super excellent idea.

An Alliance is not a "thing" to be a part of. It's simply you and the top 5 earners on your friends list. If you poopsock the game and a bunch of people add you you'll be in many alliances. Why would you need a guild? To do things like keep a list of likeminded people or people from certain websites, gaming clans etc together and available for mission invites. The same reason every game has clans/guilds.

Maybe it's so and no guilds because guilds naturally fluctuate. They thrive, whither and die and new ones spring up all the time. Maybe it's more cost efficient? Server storage? Or there is a benefit in persistent "allianceguilds"? Then again, is it so bad to have people moving between guilds and have that social component in a flow?

I still don't understand, if the Alliance is your friends list, wouldn't that just be one alliance? Do you include X group of friends in one alliance, Y group in another, picking and choosing as you go? Once they get around to guilds, will your guild count as an alliance? This is all unnecessarily complicated.

Your friend Smeagol has you and probably 4 other people on their friends list, and that's Smeagol's Alliance. You don't pick anything, except the people on your friends list. The game sets up your Alliance.

The game sets up your Alliance. This. It's not an organization, as lenny said. It's an incentive to play with other people, rather than solo. They don't even have to be on your friends list -- if you happen to play with a stranger and that stranger's activity is in the top 5 across everyone else you know or played with, they still count. YOUR Alliance is a bucket into which the activity (XP earned) of everyone else that happens to be playing in the same instance gets dumped. There are probably multipliers/boosters for if they are on your friends list (same instance or not) and probably a bigger booster if you play with a friend in the same instance, but it all counts to some extent.

The Alliance changes depending on who the top 5 earners are every week, then, and your friends list is the pool from which it's drawn. Thanks! Edit: Pool includes anyone you group with.

Nevertheless, more friends = a greater chance of being Allied to players who are pulling in XP, yes?
So more friends = a good idea.

Chris Schmidt made a point that you don't need to collect friends endlessly because it only 'counts' the most prolific 5.
Though it stands to reason that if you have a few more friends, the 'best 5' are likely to collect more XP when selected from a larger pool of friends.

More generally, it rewards you for playing with other people OR having friends who play a lot. One of the slots in the top 5 can be taken by a random you played with if they outrank the XP earns of your friends for the 1 week period.

I wonder if guilds will have their own space? Maybe they could at least let guilds have their own launch bay that they could customize? Not counting on it being as cool as Warframe but I am hoping the system might be more in depth than Destiny ...

Tarsis that leads to a guild enclave would be fantastic, and let members group up, check out everybody's Javelins, or just socialize. Customizing the space would be especially great, especially if the devs could implement guild challenges, maybe with trophies?
