Continuing the series, this gameplay video showcases your first story in Anthem, along with javelin personalization and a look at the expanding world of Anthem and its endgame content.
Game Director Jonathan Warner walks you through some of the contracts, Strongholds, and endgame content that will constantly offer new challenges for you to test your skills against.

I worry that the hardcore looter crowd out there is going to raise a fuss about not having enough endgame activity of loot to chase.
Then again my observation is that they do that in virtually every game.
I think Anthem will probably have enough content on the ground at launch to satisfy but a lot is going to depend on their content pipeline in the next few months.

Still not entirely over the fact that they stole HRC's campaign slogan lol.

Except all that content you skipped...So they can't really balance for them, but they can't balance for those that get an hour or two per week either. There is a middle ground however. And I believe the game will launch with enough for those of us in that camp. The no lifers have to wait a little.

Though I’m also a bit worried people are building up ideas for what the Cataclysms actually are that the reality just won’t be able to live up to.

I'm pretty sure at this point, even Bioware doesn't know what Cataclysms will actually end up being. The fact that we've seen zero footage of them and heard very few details leads me to suspect they aren't quite finished designing/implementing them yet. They probably have an idea of what they want them to be, but often there is a large gap between what you want and what ends up being possible.

Then they'll blame "The Casuals." There's already people talking about trying to make it to Grandmaster in 24 hours or less, and I just can't understand that mindset.

That can, and most likely will happen to some extent. But still most of the serious content creators understand that The Devs cannot balance for that amount of gaming hours. Streamers have another problem and that is if their viewers are interested. Well in case streaming is their livelyhood of course. If you're merely streaming the game while you're playing or working on making a show of it?

There is footage in the recent trailer where they talk about it briefly, though it doesn’t give much insight. Yes, but basically all it said was "Cataclysms are a thing with some new enemies and maybe freaky weather". That's very vague. They showed strongholds back at E3 8 months ago. They showed off an entire legendary contract in a dev stream. All we've seen of Cataclysms is a brief tease in the demo and now this footage. I hope Bioware goes big with the Cataclysms. Making them multi-part events that unfold over the course of, say, a week, with each successive part getting bigger and more involved would be cool. I doubt that's what is going to happen, but I can still dream...

I think BioWare knows what they are, but I think the plan is to unveil them after release as the first step of their ongoing content plan. But I also sort of doubt they will live up to the ideas people are building up, for example I don’t think it will be a an endless procedurely generated dungeon.

I think BioWare knows what they are, but I think the plan is to unveil them after release as the first step of their ongoing content plan. Yeah, they could just be playing their cards close to their chest. If that's the case, I'm not sure it's the best plan from a marketing perspective. People are already worried about the endgame with the limited number of strongholds and time-gating of legendary contracts. Showing what's up with the Cataclysms could go a long way to assuage those fears.

It's 02/06 and the EA Premier early access doesn't start for 9 more days so I'm not sure right now is when you start putting more cards on the table. You want to build hype both leading up to early access and the Feb 22nd launch date.

You want to build hype both leading up to early access and the Feb 22nd launch date. This reminds me of another weird thing. Since we know that Cataclysms are time-limited events, what are the chances that one actually shows up during early access? My guess is that we won't see one until the full launch. No point in committing extra live service resources for just a small subset of your playerbase. On the other hand...doing a "live" reveal of Cataclysms, so to speak, during early access could be a great way to build hype for the full release (assuming they turn out to be awesome, of course).

I think it's a good question. You want to build up hype, for sure, and there is certainly a timing to building up that hype to hit certain "high notes" for what the devs and publishers feel will elicit the biggest impact on potential customers. I think it depends on if BioWare considers a "Cataclysm" more of an "endgame" content. If it's "endgame", then, no, it won't make early access. However, I could totally see them unleashing some type of event between what they gave us during the demo weekend and something impactful like the aforementioned Cataclysm. I think, mid-week into the early access, if the systems and access are running smoothly, and they are not running around putting out fires, it would be in their best interests showing how all hell can break lose and that even what is considered a "minor storm" is an actual event that everyone with access to a Javelin would want to participate in.

OK, I guess that new tweet about the live service schedule settles it. There will likely not be a Cataclysm in early access. Their live service schedule starts with Feb 22, so looks like they will be waiting for full launch before kicking things off.

Just watched the video, and I have to say that it looks awesome! Seems like not only will they be adding new Strongholds, but also challenges, contracts, and character arc missions. That, combined with spontaneous world events, Cataclysms, Contracts, etc, sounds to me like there will be a good amount to do! Now, I'm not a looter-shooter super grinder like some, so maybe for those hardcore people that might not be enough new content fast enough, but to me as a pretty average gamer, it seems like it will keep me pretty busy!

My worry is that with Cataclysms being a "time-limited" World Event is that they will release them during hours that most people are at work (ie anywhere from 7 am to 5 pm) Monday through Friday, for maybe a few hours at any given time....and then by the time the rest of the world gets home from work there will be little to nothing left of the experience.
I know that sounds really silly, and I'm sure Bioware won't do that because they will know that people have lives, day jobs outside of their hobby of gaming, or maybe even families to be responsible for....So I am sure they will be far more flexible, forgiving and realistic with their scheduling.
This is just my brain being over-actively pessimistic, unnecessarily.

Cant remember if it was Jon Warner or some other dev, but they said that Cataclysms last for some time. Hopefully a few days....But also, I hope that it's not something that you literally have to be in "the right place at the right time" and "don't blink or you'll miss it" kind of thing....I mean, I found the orange cloud easy enough....But for the life of me, I couldn't find the Ash Titan that lots of people had said had spawned. I'm hoping that whatever happens....it will happen for everyone and that we will all be able to see/find it and experience it. Not that it will be limited and hidden for those who are only online at the time and lucky enough to be in the right area of the map.
Again, my pessimistic brain.

Though I’m also a bit worried people are building up ideas for what the Cataclysms actually are that the reality just won’t be able to live up to. That's the natural result of building hype over a mystery without any details. Better deliver if you're going to do that.
