What's going on all of you fantastic Freelancers of the BSN? Anthem is almost upon us, and I don't think it's quite hit me yet! That being said, now is about the time most have their opinions formulated about the game and whether or not it is a pre-order, a day one purchase, a wait-for-reviews purchase, or a hard pass. Thankfully as a content creator I get to see it all! And I mean... all... of it. And I respect all opinions and feelings about Anthem (so long as you aren't a jerk about it )! I recently made a video in response to the onslaught of questions I've received about if you should pre-order or even buy the game despite all the controversies, issues, EA, and so on. This video is just a pure statement of facts until the end of the video where I give my own personal thoughts and opinions which may surprise you! I hope you all enjoy and let me know what your thought process is after watching! Strong alone but stronger together, William Your Anthem Host

What's going on all of you fantastic Freelancers of the BSN? Hi William, yes I caught the video. It's such a personal decision, isn't it, yet even now it's one of the most raged about comments on YT videos. 'Never pre-order' or 'I just pre-ordered'. What might be interesting is to see who pre-ordered that didn't think they would, or didn't (or canceled) who thought they would.

I'm in the never pre-order boat. I mean... why? Publishers try to lure you in with some gimmicks but aside from that you can basically only lose pre-ordering ANY game. It's not like they run out of stock or anything. You can basically buy it any time of day - so why not wait till release, see how that goes, how well the game runs and so on. Maybe reviews are up before the launch as well. I just don't see any benefit in pre-ordering unless maybe if you have crappy internet and thus want to pre-load a few days before the launch.
And when it comes to Anthem there is even less of a rush. Some people will be playing the game soon, a week before official launch. So there will probably be a lot of content online in that week. If the final game turns out better than the demo as they want us to believe then there is still plenty of time to buy it on the 22nd...

Unless you implicitly trust the developer and publisher, the answer to this is always a "no" for me. There's literally only one dev I'd pre-order from atm, and that's CDPR. I'm open to others earning that trust though.

I'd say never pre-order. Too many times have game companies pulled the rug out from under players for what they promised vs what they got. Even well-loved, well-respected developers have been guilty of this. A pre-order is an invitation to be a sucker. "Take my money! I hope you do something good with it!" Then when the game comes out and it's not what you expected, depending on where you pre-ordered from, sometimes you can't even get your money back unless you've only put 2 or 5 or 10% of the game in. It's a terrible practice, and is evident with how they try to incentivize you to pre-order. "Get the Recon Deluxe Survival Axe with your pre-order." Etc.
That being said, I pre-ordered Anthem; the Legion of Dawn Edition.
👆👆👆👆👆👆 Sucker.
Edit: To be clear, the finger is pointing to me, however I couldn't find a finger pointing up and to the left at a 45 degree angle.

If anybody wants to watch an unbiased video on whether they should pre-order ... this is not the video for you. I bailed after 5 minutes because all this dude is doing is rebutting criticisms and potential concerns of Anthem, and if that's all you do you are not providing an unbiased video for the consumer. You are trying to allay fears rather than objectively inform.
"EA did not have influence over this game" "Microtransactions are cosmetic" "there is an emphasis on story because we are told by Gamble there is an emphasis on story"
Jesus dude.

You should buy a 15 year old Ferrari because it's stylish, goes fast, and everything inside is made of good quality materials and not cheap plastic. That is objectively true, is it not? What I did not tell you is that the car will break down every couple of days, it's extremely annoying to get parts for, and it guzzles petrol like a dehydrated mammoth. Which is the problem. If all you are doing is allaying concerns then you are approaching the video strictly from one side. I'm only getting one side of the picture. It is not unbiased and it is not well rounded. As a consumer, avoid these video like the plague

You either have the money, trust and or desire to buy to game via pre-order or you don't.
Myself i haven't preordered because of lack of money, if i get until next week i may do it. Otherwise it will be only after release in march.

I'm firmly in the pre-order if you like camp. Support your local dev, or favourite dev or just to spite your favourite zealot. In the case of Anthem I'm on Origin access premier so I guess it's a pre-order.

The only scenario where I'd consider a pre-order is when I can be relatively sure that it's a product I will enjoy at a price I can live with because I have some idea of what to expect in terms of content and quality. For instance, I recently pre-ordered Die Neue These on Amazon, but I've already seen all 12 episodes of the remake; I know what I'm getting into, and I found the price to own these episodes to be acceptable. It's a more difficult criteria to apply to games, particularly AAA games that aren't sequels to already-established franchises. At the end of the day, it all comes down to how much risk you're comfortable with. Nowadays, with steep discounts just around the corner from release day, it's difficult to make a case for pre-orders. Not so long ago I pre-ordered the Shadow of the Tomb Raider Croft Edition, only for it to be discounted 50% barely a month after launch! A case can easily be made for late adopters getting an overall better deal (more content at a cheaper price) than early adopters (e.g.: GOTY editions). And we're not even considering the, sometimes high, number of bugs a game has at release (coughFailure76cough) as opposed to a couple of months down the line, to the point early buyers might be considered beta testers.
Bottom line, buyer beware.

Meh if you want to pre order do it, if you don't simply don't but the one thing you definitely shouldn't do is let anyone tell you to or not to, make your own bloody mind up.
Personally the only time i pre order is when im no sure of my own money situation at about the release date or it is/was say a wow expansion

Preorder ? No. And this does not apply only to Anthem, but to the other games too.
Gaming industry is very lazy these days, devs are making many promises before release date just to make better sales and after ? Well...

It all depends on how much the game company wants to bribe me with extras.
I've pre ordered and been very glad i did and i have pre ordered and regretted it.
I will not preorder this game for the following reasons.
- Not enough of a bribe for me to do so. - The Demo had some large issues though many seemed to get fixed in demo #2 - I will not be able to play until the 2nd week of March.
When I do order it will be the higher end version though, the 'Legion of Dawn'?

Would you give an interest free loan to any company on the promise they'll deliver something of equal value at some future date, when you know up front that there is a risk that what they deliver might not be of equal value? That would be kind of dumb, from a financial point of view, right?
That's why I don't pre-order. The incentive they offer to pre-order would have to be worth much more than the time value of the money they're asking for, to compensate for the risk. Alternatively, a rock solid guarantee of a full refund for the life of the product would be acceptable.

I like the sentiment, but the time value of preorder downpayments is negligible even in aggregate.
