To unlock all four tombs in this critical path story mission, you must complete these tasks: From: www.gamersheroes.com/game-guides/anthem-tomb-of-the-legionnaires-challenges-guide/- Treasure Chests - 15
- Harvests - 25
- Melee defeats - 50
- Ultimate defeats -3
- Weapon Defeats - 30
- Missions completed - 3
- Collectibles - 10
- Multi-Kills - 3
- Legendary defeats - 3
- Combo Triggers - 15
- Gear Defeats - 30
- Elite defeats - 9
- World Events - 4
- Weak Point Defeats - 15
- Javelins Repaired (heal another player) - 3
Notice that you cannot complete the Javelins Repaired task solo. EDIT: per /thread, if you can find NPC Javelin's, you can complete this task solo. One theory is that this bizarre, pace halting set of fetch tasks was thrown in as a speed bump to people rushing to the end game. Another theory is that this is proof that the promise of "you can solo the critpath" is a lie. What do you think? EDIT: It's not clear to me that you must open ALL of the tombs in order to progress the story. If you only have to open one and it's your choice, this is less of a screwup for solo, as you would just choose the tomb that does not require healing other players. Confirmed in /thread that you have to open all of them. EDIT: Most of the tasks above are retroactive, so if you already have 3 Ultimate kills, you don't have to do that again to complete the tomb challenge. EDIT: Apparently, Chest opening is only credited to the opener in this Early Access build. The 2/22 build fixes this so that all players in a wide radius are credited. BenIrvo
Fixed for 22nd of Feb. All group members within a large radius get credit for opening a chest.

Who knows? Maybe they threw it in to prevent trial players from completing the main story. Maybe it's there to artificially inflate the main campaign's length (Odyssey has done this as well). Maybe they want people to experience all that the game has to offer (little though it may be). I for one would question whether anyone would even want to continue playing when faced with this list of chores.

You have to open all of them.
I consider myself a pretty efficient player concerning tasks like these. When I got this quest I had 3.5 hours played. I just completed it at 7 hours, so it took something like 3-4 hours just to do this grindy nonsense.

Reviving NPCs increases the count, so you can technically solo it.
Putting in these quests was a big mistake. If the players first instinct when they see the objectives is to alt-f4, then you have done something wrong. If they really want to stall the player, then it should just be "Complete 10 Freeplay events" or something.

Trivial speedbump and gives you an excuse to get around the map, which is well done (too small, but otherwise nice).
8k coin for three freeplay sessions, good deal.
Out of all things this game can be criticized for, this isn't one of them.

Fortunately, by the time I decided to actually do this quest I had already fulfilled like 80% of the objectives while playing Freeplay, so it didn't really annoy me that much. With that said, it does feel like a complete afterthought compared to the quests before and after in the main storyline. I would have preferred the challenges to involve something specific to each buried Legion of Dawn lancer rather than generic Freeplay activities - that way they could have used the challenges to provide further exposition about the Legion of Dawn, General Tarsis and the war with the urgoth. Alas.

This is easily the weakest point of the main campaign.
Collectables? Really?
Decent story broken up by the mother of all fetch quests.

This was a bad idea, seems like as described, on paper a worthy sort of trial, but it also seems like it breaks flow.
Here is my question, is this the only story mission like this? Or is there other grind bits?

I agree this was a pretty dumb decision. Most of it was easy to accrue for me in freeplay and on random contracts with the exception of the multikills (which I'm still not a 100% on the requirements). Even on hard I figured by level 17 I would have just randomly achieved the conditions. I'm ashamed to admit I had to drop to easy and take the Interception for a spin and just melee every encounter I came across...which took me an hour to acquire the 3 necessary to progress. I was less annoyed that I had to do these tasks and more that there was no clear explanation in-game (that I could find) of how to achieve and that I couldn't seemingly do so with my preferred Javelin and difficulty.
Also, I'm fairly certain this was done to prevent people from bum-rushing the story, but this is a bad way to do that. All of that could have been broken up into bite-sized pieces by having various agents guide you to the four tombs...maybe the different Tarsis factions had exclusive knowledge of exact locations...and a little quid pro quo was required to obtain the info.

There was nothing retroactive about it for me. I started all the tasks with 0 count on everything. If it was retroactive, then it wouldn't be such a pain. I actually had the most trouble with the Collectables. Seemed forever until I got 10 of those. Then in like 10 minutes I stumbled upon 6-7 of them in a row and kept finding new... There is a good amount of them below Tarsis in the tunnels.

It stalls the main story for another hour or two.

When that quest popped up for me I had done most of the stuff already except for the treasure chests. I looked for a map but you can't find shit imho because the game doesn't allow you to set waypoints (wtf?). So I just ended up doing world events which always seem to give a treasure chest at the end.

the exception of the multikills (which I'm still not a 100% on the requirements). It's a kill streak. Once you get a kill, there's an 8 second countdown timer. The timer resets to 8 on your next kill. You have to get the last kill of the count before the timer expires. This according to a reply by a Bioware dev in Reddit ... didn't bookmark the thread, so going from memory from what I read yesterday.

It doesn't sound overly egregious. Though I haven't played it so I can't judge.
I don't know, maybe a better way of implementing it.

I'm 19 hours in, none of that has been dedicated grinding, just doing agent missions/contracts, exploring Ft. Tarsis, and story. I'm 3/4 of the way finished those challenges, and just unlocked this mission. When I saw that original tweet, I expected something like "kill 5 Ursix with a handgun". It isn't nearly that bad, protip: revives can be human players or NPCs, so go exploring, do some world events. The rest just falls into place...if you play the story campaign like an RPG, like the BioWare game that it is. If you just scream through, doing the barest minimum, I guess you'll have a nasty surprise. Obviously some people did, and now they're salty.

Not seeing the big deal with this quest. Soon as you get it. Stop everything and head to each tomb to start all the collections required for each. Then just go about and explore in some Freeplay/Missions. I finished it off before I knew it. I don't think any of it should be retroactive.
