If BioWare were to close, would you feel sad? I already feel sad, because Bioware doesn't appear to be the Bioware I loved anymore.
If you had asked that question after ME3's ending, I would have said I would be very sad. But after Andromeda and Anthem, I wouldn't care very strongly if they DID shut down. I have no confidence in them making high-quality RPGs anymore.
Maybe they can prove me wrong, but iirc Anthem was supposed to be the turning point, not a continuance of the downfall.

OTOH, they kept TOR around forever. Remember when TORTanic was going to destroy Bio, until everybody sort of forgot that it existed at all? They had to drastically alter TOR's business model to make it viable, though. They don't really have that option here, because it's already monetized, and in the wake of a Battlefront II fiasco.

There isn't anything particularly surprising about the way the reviews are shaking out. I think most people had accurately predicted how things would go. Also not surprised that EA launched Apex Legends to mitigate Anthem's foreseen revenue shortfall. My understanding is that the distribution agreement severely limited EA's input, and that they had essentially nothing to do with Apex Legends' development and release schedule. In fact, there were rumours that EA considered trying to delay Apex Legends because they believed the competition would hurt Anthem (which I'm not sure I believe.)

Interesting post. I believe you, but any source where I could read more? It was from a video (by WhatCulture, I think.) It would be fairly recent, so I should be able to find it. Edit: I can't seem to find it, but I did find this: comicbook.com/gaming/2019/02/05/titanfall-studio-apex-legends-ea-hand-in-development/why does it sound far fetched? I didn't say it sounded far-fetched, just that it was a rumour, so I'm not sure if it's actually true.

Edit: Also a tiny tidbit the developers were "kind" enough not share with us is that the boss drops from the GM Strongholds are hard-coded! (added with a bandaid patch, don't forget). They are always and only a MW ability and never Legendary. So there is absolutely no point for many players to even get to the boss after the second SH chest. Source? I searched around, couldn't find anything patch note or other source that mentions this. I believe it was stated (can't find source) that GM1 bosses will not drop Legendary, but GM2 is supposed to at a low rate, and GM3 at a higher rate. Players doing zillion runs and recording their drops.

It is pretty strong evidence that the boss drop is hard-coded to abilities. As a statistical analysis post it leaves much to be desired in terms of detail, but assuming all 100 runs were GM1, that leaves open the question if the lack of Legendary drops is due to the hard-coding or difficulty level.

I don't have the link handy, but someone else said they ran a shitton of runs and concluded that not only was the boss-drop masterwork hard-coded, but also that the other boss drops were hard-coded to epic. That would mean zero chance for a legendary from bosses. The obvious solution is to just let bosses drop loot normally, add an additional hard-coded masterwork drop, and generally shift priority to higher rarities.

I’m not super familiar with the genre. But aren’t bosses traditionally where you have the best odds for top gear. Seems odd to lock out legendary items from them.
