For those of you about to embark on Anthem's main campaign, be advised that if you want to see your chosen Lancer's face, only wear the default helmet. I just learned, 95% through the crit path, that if you wear your snazzy Legion of Dawn armor, or armor bought through the store, that the helmet will not open. I missed scenes that would have shown my face, would have shown my Lancer as more than a metal suit. I'm a tad salty that the devs (to my knowledge) never mentioned this earlier, and I only found out yesterday, through Reddit. So, if you want more RP in your Anthem, default helmet = face, not default helmet = faceless.

Clarification request: when you say "missed scenes" do you mean that if you wear an alternative helmet those scenes don't play at all or they play the same but without seeing the pilot's face?

The scene plays but you won't see your pilots face. I had it happen once with the store Colossus armor. I didn't know you would see the face until I ran a crit mission later in my Ranger armor using stock helm. Was pleasantly surprised when face plate opened in cut scene.

I would agree that this is an oversight on Bioware's part. They should have made animations for opening all helmets, or at the very least "open" the helmet off-screen but have it be open to show the face during the cut-scenes. Where it's available for one, it should be for all.
For me personally it is not a very big deal (especially with the absence of a true Character Creator) but I can understand that it might be upsetting for some.

Most of the time (freeplay, strongholds, etc) it makes no difference at all, it's only in story missions that you get to see your face, and that's part of the problem. If we could see our character in Ft. Tarsis, I wouldn't care so much about being armored up full time. It's a small thing, but I like to see my character, even when they come from a limited face selector, à la KOTOR.

I lucked out then. I've been using the LoD chest & Legs, but the original's arms & helmet, so I did get the open-visor cutscenes. That's good to know it's an issue with others though...

Just as well I run default appearance then I love the Colossus as I play solo the heavy Javelin is a good match for the play style.

I find it hard to really feel the emotions coming from the character when it's just a suit (as in the prologue).

It gives me more immersion to the story overall aaand those facial animations are just superb on this game It's a shame that other javelin helmets don't open. I was lucky enough to use original helmets for my Storm and Ranger all time.

Usually I like to see my characters face but I like my cool helmets as well so for me no biggie. This is an example of a scene. BUT I'm going to do a PT with a new pilot to experience the full magnitude of facial expression as well. Anthem 2019-02-20 12-18-29-801 by prmjb, on Flickr

If you Colossus, NPCs seem to hang out inside your arms during cutscenes.

If you Colossus, NPCs seem to hang out inside your arms during cutscenes. FB3 collision detection and in-game physics, at least as implemented by BW, is not even hot shit on a shingle. Just cold diarrhea on a paper plate. It is what makes melee combat in DAI a frustratingly stupid non-fun activity for me. In UE, you cannot occupy the same physical space as another entity. Certainly, there are plenty examples of clipping issues, weapons clipping through others (especially in cutscenes) but generally in UE you collide with your enemy rather than phase through it balls deep like a mini-Manhattan project. Frostbite is bad for these sorts of games. All there is to it.

I do like the main ranger armor but it is good to know. Bioware has the same problem with helmets from extra armors since the time of ME2...
